Dark synth-pop band Night Club premiere video via PopMatters

"Brooks and Kavanaugh wisely decide to focus on catchiness above all else, which pays huge dividends. These are monster hooks that are designed to invade brains and stay inside for a long time." -- Pop Matters

"Singer Emily Kavanaugh sounds quite like Kylie Minogue, and she definitely has that same kind of breathy-but-edgy sex appeal in her delivery. All these tracks are carnally charged paeans to lustful encounters in the dark corners of the club, where all the best action happens." -- Frontiers L.A.

L.A.'s sinful synth-pop band Night Club premiere the first video from their sophomore release Love Casualty today via PopMatters. The clip for the song "Poisonous" is available to watch HERE (or, direct YouTube link HERE.)

The entire 5-song set is available for streaming/sharing via Soundcloud HERE and Bandcamp HERE. Night Club return to the east coast in early August for a pair of shows, and play Los Angeles supporting Book of Love in October. Please see complete dates below.

Night Club recently premiered a racy video via Buzzbands.LA from the band's self-titled debut. The clip for the song "Control" is available to watch/share HERE.

Night Club is the brainchild of DJ/Producer Mark Brooks, former guitarist for notorious 90s noise rockers Warlock Pinchers and current director of TV's "Metalocalypse" as well as director of videos for Slayer, Melvins, Danzig and more. The band is vocalist Emily Kavanaugh's first foray into performing, following in the footsteps of her father, keyboardist for legendary New Jersey band Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes.

Night Club's self-titled 5-song debut EP and Love Casualty EP are available now via iTunes, Bandcamp and CD via Gato Blanco.

Australia's Sleepmakewaves to release award-nominated album worldwide, share track and video teaser

Australian melodic instrumental rock quartet sleepmakeswaves announce the forthcoming worldwide release of their acclaimed and unprecedentedly ARIA award nominated (Australia's equivalent of the Grammys) album via England's Monotreme Records in an expanded deluxe edition. The band shares the first track and an album teaser video today. Listen to "In Limbs and Joints" HERE and watch video HERE

The coup for a style of music so often marginalized to earn a level of mainstream respect highlights something truly important about this band: its music is so immersive, powerful and evocative that it, above all else, speaks to people on an individual level, beyond categorization.

The strength of great instrumental music is its ability to communicate without the traditional trappings of someone singing about specific emotions. The music itself touches each listener differently. And, as in the case of sleepmakeswaves, there is a symphonic transcendence to the band's sound that encompasses a wide variety of colors -- ranging from ambient soundscapes, to soaring melodic hooks and moments of dark, brooding intensity. There are electronic layers interwoven with slow-burning builds, churning metallic riffs segueing into beautifully lush melodies, wistful strings blossoming out of neo-folk marches. ...and so we destroyed everything encompasses so much more than is typical of the vast array of sounds to have become known as post-rock, ranging from Sigur Ros to Explosions In the Sky to Russian Circles to Caspian and beyond.

sleepmakeswaves first appeared on the global stage with their 2008 debut EP in today already walks tomorrow. Their current lineup of guitarist Jonathan Khor, guitarist Otto Wicks-Green, drummer Tim Adderley and bassist Alex Wilson have spent the better part of the past 2 years touring the world, including performances at SXSW, Dunk! Festival and touring alongside bands such as Karnivool, Boris,Tortoise and more. They have earned a devoted following around the world, for their innovative and expansive music, coupled with an electrifying live show that has seen them sell out venues across their homeland.

Now, Monotreme Records will bring the band's genre-shattering, listener-uniting sound to a wider audience with the worldwide release of ...and so we destroyed everything. The album will be available as a deluxe 2-CD edition including the 9-track bonus disc, ...and then they remixed everything, with album tracks remixed by 65daysofstatic, Kyson, and more, and also as a deluxe 180-gram double gatefold vinyl edition (in three different limited colored vinyl versions, all including a free album CD, a poster and a digital download coupon for the remix album). The album and remix disc will also be available to buy separately as downloads.

...and so we destroyed everything will be available to destroy everything everywhere on September 24th, 2013 via Monotreme Records.

Eureka the Butcher debuts "Desert Rituals" video via SPIN

Eureka the Butcher, solo pseudonym of Marcel Rodriguez-Lopez (also of Zechs Marquise and The Mars Volta) debuts the video for "Desert Rituals" today via SPIN. The clip for the track culled from the album Music For Mothers is available to watch/share at SPIN and YouTube.

The album Music For Mothers is dedicated to the multi-instrumentalist's mother Frances Sarah Rodriguez-Lopez who passed away last year. Listen to/share the entire album HERE. Eureka the Butcher launches a series of Texas dates next week. Please see details below.

Regarding the album, Marcel writes:

"This record is for my mom because she is the reason why I started playing the piano. She told me that it was great that I wanted to play drums, but if I played the piano, I could create music and play to a room full of people by myself. I didn't start playing drums for another 4 years, and I wouldn't start playing piano for another 7 or so. That's when i started making electronic music. Making music under the Eureka name gives me that ability: to make music and perform by myself. I, however, do not perform alone. Sadah Luna performs with me because of my love for her dance and her love for my music. She completes the live show.

"This record was made all over the world while on tour with The Mars Volta and Zechs Marquise, and at home when I was on break. I worked on it in buses, vans, planes, dressing rooms, airports, hotel rooms, backyards, sidewalks, just about everywhere. Music for Mothers is a testament to how much waiting around you do while on the road. It was a very rough time for my family and I, and this record was my therapy. My mom is my biggest fan and she gave me the drive, confidence, and clarity to start and finish this album.

"I didn't want it to be completely selfish and personal though. I want this music to be for all mothers...for all families. I hope that it will inspire other people to make music for their mothers, fathers, sisters, and brothers. I was given the strength to push through and finish these songs, and I hope these songs give other people the drive to do the same. The drive to gain more knowledge and improve. If my family had not been there to motivate me, if my mom hadn't pushed me to learn other aspects of music, I would be sampling records and it wouldn't be as rewarding to me. Sampling records properly is an art form in itself, but i knew it wasn't for me. Instead, I learned to play a handful of instruments and because of that my music is all original and has a specific sound. This record is the sound of our household, the sound of our family."

Eureka the Butcher is a slayer of sound, chopping unique rhythms inspired by the Los Angeles Beat scene, joining some of the most influential beat musicians and incorporating electronic elements into the instrumentals he has always mastered.

Marcel was constantly surrounded by musical creativity as part of the Rodriguez-Lopez family of musicians and was invited by his brother Omar to join The Mars Volta on tour in 2003. He became a constant member of the band, contributing on keys and percussion to Volta as well as the Omar Rodriguez-Lopez Group. Marcel is also a founding member of Zechs Marquise, starting out on keys and percussion and later switching to drums.

In an interview with Fusion Magazine, Marcel explained that his name "comes from the nature of editing; the Butcher part from cutting up sound, chopping up beats to make up new things; the Eureka part comes from when it all comes together."

Music For Mothers was released on May 28th via Rodriguez Lopez Productions.

Boyfrndz stream entire Natures EP via Exclaim!, announce US tour dates

"Reminiscent of early Jane’s Addiction with a spacey twist, Martin’s chugging guitars break into swirling solos while Perez keeps the percussion energetic and unpredictable." -- Consequence of Sound

Austin trio Boyfrndz share their entire forthcoming Natures EP today via Exclaim! The 5-song set was co-produced by the band with keyboardist Ikey Owens (Jack White, Mars Volta), who also once again lends his skills on organ for a few tracks. Natures is available to stream HERE. (Soundcloud link HERE.)

Boyfrndz take to the road in August to promote the release. Please see complete dates below.

The band also recently premiered the intense video for the song "Moving Parts", which was directed by Sean Stout of Terroreyes.tv and is available to watch/share HERE.

Natures is a dark and powerful culmination of the band's uniquely soaring sound that traverses everything from Drive Like Jehu's wiry guitars, Sigur Ros' ethereal beauty, early Jane's Addiction's outer-space hard rock and myriad others.

Boyfrndz began in 2010, shortly after the collapse of We The Granada, a band in which guitarist/vocalist Scott Martin and bassist/vocalist Joseph Raines had cut their teeth. Martin's roommate and sought-after drummer/vocalist Aaron Perez (at the time already playing in three other bands) signed on and Boyfrndz quickly became a priority. The group enlisted Grammy award winning keyboardist Ikey Owens to co-produce and he also played keys on a couple of tracks. Boyfrndz pared down to a three piece following a summer tour in 2011 and soon thereafter recorded their expansive 2012 album, All Day Pass (Spora Records/Boyfrndz Records). Boyfrndz have now added second guitarist Jesse Moore who will play on all upcoming live dates.

Natures was engineered and mixed by Erik Wofford at Cacophony Recorders in Austin, with Grammy-nominee Dan Millice mastering at Engine Room Audio in NYC (A$AP Rocky, Hella's Tripper, et al). Natures will be available July 16th on LP, CD and download via Boyfrndz Records.

Zorch stream entire album via SPIN a week before release, announce house party tour

"A maximal pop masterwork." -- SPIN

Austin, TX hyper-kinetic duo Zorch are streaming their entire forthcoming album this week, starting today courtesy of SPIN. The album, titled Zzoorrcchh will be released by Sargent House on July 23rd. Stream full album HERE. (Direct Soundcloud link HERE)

In fittingly maniacal Zorch style, the duo play a series of intimate southern house party shows at the end of the month, featuring complimentary drinks by Bone Spirits Liquor. Please see complete dates below. For more info and location addresses, please see HERE.

The debut full length by Austin duo Zorch is the end result of nearly 5-years worth of material carefully collected, then shredded, condensed and completely remolded into a solid whole. It sounds like two hyperactively creative minds finding ways to cleverly merge together effervescent synth blips, blue-eyed soul vocals, gang-chant backups, blurting EDM bass lines, frenetic drums, hazy psych-drone and even the proverbial kitchen sink taking leads here and there. Each song sounds like it could've been crafted out of samples from several different decades of pop culture history, though it's entirely the work of two exceptional musicians.

If Zzoorrcchh sounds like a photomosaic looks, it's because there is similarly a meticulously organized logic to it all. When Zac Traeger (keyboards, omnichord, vocals) and Shmu (drums, omnichord, vocals) first started playing together in 2008 while studying music in college in Boston, the pair would improvise and record many hours worth of ideas. Some of these songs are direct descendants of those jams; the duo picking out pieces of those recordings, re-organizing and reworking them multiple times and in various studio settings while also adding on and creating new ideas. Demo versions of some of the songs on this album were previously released, only to again be redone a couple of times over for the album. And, Zorch even previously offered up all of the basic audio tracks from early EPs for fans to remix their own versions. Not quite like George Lucas endlessly tinkering with Star Wars, but there's a similar conviction that the work of art is never necessarily finished.

In July of 2009, Zorch recorded their self-titled 4-track EP at Cacophony Studios in Austin, TX. It was the duo's first attempt to capture their sound and demonstrate their wide palette of musical colors, ranging from tribal to pop. Choosing to self-release the EP and offering it up as a free download through their website, Zorch also gave fans the opportunity to design and create their own CD cases at live shows. The "Cosmic Gloss" / "E.M.F." single followed in 2011.

Zzoorrcchh will be available everywhere on CD, LP and download via Sargent House on July 23rd, 2013.

Pink Frost premiere first track from forthcoming album via Pitchfork

"An increasingly commanding quartet that embraces the power of guitar drone, tribal drum and the deep, shoegaze-era swoon." -- Chicago Tribune

"Off-kilter, yearning rock music that strives for a populism that's considered a bit declassé by most of their peers and, as such, badly missed." -- Pitchfork

Tera Melos premiere new video via SPIN, announce tour with Minus The Bear

Click image above to watch video

Sacramento genre-benders Tera Melos premiere a new video from their latest album, X'ed Out today via SPIN.com. Watch the clip for "Weird Circles" HERE (YouTube HERE), directed by Behn FanninTera Melos also announce tour dates with Minus The Bear beginning Sept 9th. Before then, the trio plays Chicago's Wicker Park Fest on July 27th and the Launch Festival in Sacramento on Sept 7th. Please see complete dates below and specific details (tickets, times, etc) HERE.

Tera Melos also recently premiered songs from X'ed Out via Rolling Stone, Noisey and Pitchfork. The track "Tropic Lame" is available for streaming/sharing HERE and "Sunburn" is available HERE.

Truly great art is that which can't be easily understood and dissected, but immediately resonates nonetheless. Tera Melos' new full length, X'ed Out is just that kind of adventure. The songs transcend in a way that makes you want to sit friends down to hear it, not only to share the experience, but perhaps in hopes that together you can create the world in which songs like this can be defined. It hits mental buttons and flicks internal switches that you never knew existed, while cleverly obscuring the technical precision for which the band has been known. It's remarkably multifaceted, incredibly catchy and perplexing to unravel exactly how it all works.

"It's like visiting a friend who lives on the 14th floor of a building with no elevator, yet he has a grand piano in his apartment," explains bassist Nathan Latona. "How did he get it there? Was it carried up 14 flights of stairs, assembled on site or what? This record is the piano in the apartment with no elevator. We wanted to do all of the tricky stuff in a way that doesn't seem noticeable."

X'ed Out is the culmination of an arc begun on Tera Melos' first proper full-length, Patagonian Rats (Sargent House, 2010) -- a supercollider of 60s pop hooks, Minutemen garage-prog, post-punk evisceration, wiry psychedelia and nearly everything else in-between. Here, the Sacramento based trio burns and simmers simultaneously while situated somewhere without benefit of location services. It's a nowhere land, X'ed Out of the grid, both inviting and daring. Join us.

X'ed Out is available everywhere as of April 16th, 2013 on LP, CD and download via Sargent House.

Big Black Cloud stream entire album via SPIN, launch tour with label mates Drunk Dad tomorrow

Portland, OR noise rock trio Big Black Cloud stream their forthcoming new album in its entirety via SPIN.com today. Listen to the album, Black Friday HERE. Big Black Cloud take to the road this week with Eolian Empire label mates Drunk Dad following a tour kickoff/album release show in both bands' hometown. Please see complete dates below.

Brooklyn Vegan recently shared the song "Cities of the Red Night", available to stream/share HERE. The album, Black Friday will be available July 2nd via purveyors of "heavy vibrations" Eolian Empire.

Since fleeing the swampy south for the dank Pacific Northwest almost a decade ago, the furious avant punks have been honing their peerless amalgam of garage, noise rock, psych and genuine weirdness into an ever-sharper set of sticky shivs to get under your skin and turn your brains all inside out. Black Friday is a slithery sci-fi nightmare, all twists and turns and bunsen burns, fuzzed-out unhinged fun.

Big Black Cloud began in 2005 as a four-piece (with the longer moniker Here Comes a Big Black Cloud) that over time grew larger and freakier, but in 2010 turned power trio, their experimentation and extravangances distilled into a crack-shot, whip-smart combo. Their full-length debut, Dark Age, was "an absolutely thrilling listen" (Built On A Weak Spot), "a fantastically frenetic, dark, psychedelic garage rock record" (Permanent Records), "a huge, swirling mess of garage, punk, noise, psych, howls, and yelps" (Maximum Rocknroll), followed in 2011 by the Sh*tty Vibrations cassette EP, "a real game changer" (Terminal Boredom).

But it seems Big Black Cloud moved out of the garage and into a secret cavern laboratory for Black Friday, their two-year labor of loathe. Clearly not content to let everyone catch up, they've pushed further out into the uncharted wild: more primal, more visceral, and a whole lot more menacing. Guitars clang, buzz, and slide, gooey bass relentlessly lopes and bombs, with drums all over the place yet somehow right where they need to be. Everything taken together gives the distinct sense that these three may go completely off the rails at any time, a feeling reinforced by the traded howls and wails of a man and woman who are quite fed up with all the bullsh*t but just can't seem to let it go, even as it drags them over the edge. Ah, but don't think that lets you off the hook... because they will get their hooks in you and drag you with them.

Big Black Cloud is from Portland, Oregon, and comprises guitarist/vocalist Nick Capello, bassist/vocalist Soo Koelbli, and drummer Travis Wainwright. Big Black Cloud has released two 7-inches, a 10-inch, a 12-inch LP (Dark Age), and the Sh*tty Vibrations cassette prior to Black Friday, their first release for Portland outsider label Eolian Empire. We think Big Black Cloud sounds a bit like Circus Lupus and Pere Ubu, or maybe a Royal Trux more speed-freaked than junked-out, sprinkled with some Brainiac-ish moments and a big ol' dose of Cows-like abandon, but it seems they've never heard-or even heard of-those bands. Go figure.

Black Friday kicks off with what sounds like a flying saucer landing and shouts of "No future!" and ends in a cacophony of scrambled surf leads, portents of the insanity to follow. The whacked-out ditty "Bomb My Brain" will bomb yours with its discordant hooks and "Won't you bomb my brain?" call to arms. Then there's the bouncing, insistent, noise-rocker "Wastoids" ("Tell me why?!"), the high-speed joyride gone scary sour "Pile of Sh*t", and the creature-feature operetta "Human Host" (and many more!). It all adds up to one hell of a fucked-up journey through a fantastic land filled with scrum, scree, squawks, and very strange things that go bump in the night. But you'll be happy you got dragged along-even if you're a bit worse for wear-because you'll have made it through and lived to tell about it.
