THE WELL share apocalyptic video from new album 'Death and Consolation' out today on RidingEasy Records

"Their most intimate, darkly personal record yet... Taking them out of the doom corner and giving it a raw, post-punk feel. "Raven" sounds like a Satanic, downtuned Steppenwolf, and frankly we can’t get enough." -- Kerrang!

"An intoxicating mix of stoner metal and occultist rock -- it’s dark n’ doomy, sure, but it’s also as catchy as fly paper coated in industrial strength glue." -- Metal Sucks

Austin trio The Well share an apocalyptic video for "This Is How The World Ends" via The Obelisk from their powerful third album Death and Consolation which is out everywhere today. Watch and share "This Is How The World Ends" HERE. (Direct YouTube.)

The Well launch an extensive North American tour this weekend in support of the album. Please see current dates below.

Brooklyn Vegan recently shared the full album stream for Death and Consolation HERE. Metal Injection premiered album track "This Is How The World Ends" HEREKerrang Magazine hosted lead single "Raven" HERE. Metal Sucks hosted the crushing album opener "Sabbah" HERE.

Death and Consolation is without a doubt a weighty album title. And, The Well is among the heaviest heavy psych bands in existence. So when we say that there's even more darkness and intensity to the band's third album than previous efforts, take heed. It's a deep sea diving bell of enveloping heaviness and longing.

"This one is a little more personal," says guitarist/vocalist Ian Graham. "2018 was a strange, dark year. A lot of change going on in my life, there was a lot of depression and coming out of it over the last year. I wanted to call this Death and Consolation, because in life that's a constant."

While The Well continue to walk an intriguing line between authentic early 70s doom/heavy psych and frayed weirdness of dark folk - especially with their haunting unison male/female vocals - the new album also adds the stark vibe of post-punk acts like Joy Division and early The Cure. "I feel like this album is almost more gothic. We're big fans of post-punk," Graham says. There's also much less jamming, the songs are tight and concise. And, did we mention, heavy? The band tuned down a full step to C-standard tuning for this album, which gives the proceedings its monstrous sound.

Sonically, Death and Consolation picks up where The Well -- Graham, bassist/vocalist Lisa Alley and drummer Jason Sullivan -- left off with their widely heralded 2016 RidingEasy album Pagan Science. The band once again recorded with longtime producer/engineer Chico Jones at Estuary Studio in 2018, who has turned the knobs for all three of their albums (Jones engineered the band's debut album Samsara with producer Mark Deutrom [Melvins, Sunn0)))] in 2013.) Samsara, released late September 2014 was ranked the #1 debut album of 2014 by The Obelisk and Pagan Science among the Best of 2016 from the Doom Charts collective. Likewise, the band's intense -- some even say "possessed" -- live performances have earned them featured slots at Austin's Levitation Fest, as well as tours with Kadavar, All Them Witches, Black Tusk and more.

"This album might be a little less produced, because I didn't want to push technical stuff as much," Graham says. "I'm so scared of getting too complicated when getting better at guitar. This is still kind of punk rock."

Death and Consolation is available on LP, CD and download as of April 26th, 2019 via RidingEasy Records. Orders are available HERE

Acquaintances (Titus Andronicus, The Ponys, Ted Leo, Don Caballero supergroup) share first track from upcoming album

"Acquaintances manage to convincingly be everything at once without ever breaking the flow of a solid rock album." -- Rolling Stone

"Spiky, rolling indie rock in a vintage Pavement or Sebadoh mold." -- SPIN

"Mixes arty ’90s post-hardcore with a hypnotic krautrock backbone. It’s cool stuff." -- Brooklyn Vegan

Chicago indie rock supergroup Acquaintances share the first track from their forthcoming sophomore album today via Brooklyn Vegan. Hear and share "And It All Went Black" HERE. (Direct Bandcamp.)

Acquaintances are finally back with their second album, 8 ½ Lives, and right in time for File 13 Records' 30th anniversary as the label's 95th release.

Jered Gummere - Guitar, Vocals (The Ponys, Bare MutantsRichard Vain)
Justin Sinkovich - Guitar, Vocals (The Poison Arrows, Atombombpocketknife, Thumbnail)
Patrick Morris - Bass (Don Caballero, The Poison Arrows)
Chris Wilson - Drums (Ted Leo + Pharmacists, Titus Andronicus, Hammered Hulls, Open City)

Also With:
Stephen Schmidt - Guitar (Thumbnail, Chino Horde)
Adam Reach - Percussion, Keyboard (The Poison Arrows, Pink Avalanche)

Recorded in a practice space and a basement by Justin Sinkovich, then mastered by John Golden, this second album builds on the fluidity of five dudes who don't necessarily occupy the same space all that often, and have made a lot of records you may have heard.  They pieced their schedules and ideas together via Chicago, Philadelphia, and Portland, and made a pretty sick sounding noise rock record over the course of a year with lot of travel and shipping recording gear back and forth.

Acquaintances was originally formed in 2012 with Chris Wilson passing through on tour, and meeting up with longtime friend Justin Sinkovich in Chicago. They agreed to start a band despite Chris living in Philly. They recruited local Chicagoans Jered Gummere and Steve Schmidt to write songs, sing, and play guitar along with Justin doing the same. Three guys writing weird songs with Chris on drums... so yeah, they naturally recruited Patrick Morris who plays with Justin in The Poison Arrows, to play bass with Acquaintances as well. The first self-titled album was recorded by Justin in his basement, and was released in 2013. It was featured in Rolling StoneSpin and other notable publications, but things came up in life, and they never played a show.  BTW, the band name came while recording that first record, labeling files of songs in progress as "Acquaintances Track 01 No Vocals" etc. to share online while they were all over the place constructing the album.

Last year Justin and Jered wrote twelve songs and recorded them with Chris and Patrick for this new album. Steve had moved to Portland at this point, so they shipped recording gear out to him and he put his distinctive guitar sound on a majority of the album. This time around, Adam Reach from The Poison Arrows filled in on drums for some rehearsal and writing sessions, and played some percussion and keyboards here and there on the record.

8 ½ Lives lives up to its title by exploring mortality, and where to go from here amidst increasingly complex existences. Acquaintances are confirming shows this time around, to figure it out face-to-face with each other, and with you.

8 ½ Lives will be available on LP and download on May 31st via File-13 Records. Pre-orders are available HERE.

Pink Avalanche streaming forthcoming album early via Brooklyn Vegan, tour starts this week

"Noise-pop with a distinctly Chicago sensibility." -- The Onion AV Club

"Playing like you mean it should never go out of style... Stark but inventive." -- Noisey

"12 tracks of wiry, knotty post-hardcore that fall somewhere between Slint and Unwound...There's no shortage of music like this, but Pink Avalanche do this kinda thing really well." -- Brooklyn Vegan

Chicago quartet Pink Avalanche are streaming their forthcoming third album ahead of release starting today via Brooklyn Vegan. Hear and share the full album HERE. (Direct Soundcloud.)

Pink Avalanche launch a handful of midwest and East Coast tour dates, starting with the album release party tomorrow, April 18th in Chicago. Please see all dates below.

Pink Avalanche's third album, appropriately titled III, finds the band's sound evolving, with an even greater focus than before on texture, repetition and harmonic exploration. While their previous 2014 album The Luminous Heart of Nowhere hearkened to the driving, bold melodic rock of their midwestern 80s-90s indie rock brethren, III finds the lineup streamlined and their sound exploring more intimate and intricate structures.

III will be available everywhere on LP via Past/Futures Records and download via File-13 Records on April 19th, 2019. Plans are to tour all regions of the US in support of the new album.

III is the Chicago-based band's first album as a trio. Founding bassist Pete Croke moved to Puerto Rico in 2018, and rather than bring in someone new, the band decided to remain a 3-piece, with guitarist Kortland Chase switching to bass.

Pink Avalanche began in 2011 when guitarist/vocalist Che Arthur (formerly of Atombombpocketknife) and drummer Adam Reach (The Poison Arrows) decided to rekindle a musical relationship that began in their native Alabama in the early 1990s and continued after the two relocated to Chicago in the mid-90s. The two began work on the first Pink Avalanche album Wraiths, during which time they asked Chase and Croke to join and complete the lineup.

Wraiths was released in 2013, followed by 2014's Luminous Heart of Nowhere. Medical and personal reasons kept the band's activity minimal in 2016 and 2017, but they were still sporadically working on music for their third album. Eventually the band, having reworked the new material after the lineup change, entered the studio in the fall of 2018 and emerged with III.

Garage-soul trio Woolly Bushmen drop hooky power-pop single from upcoming album, announce tour dates

"Kicks like a mule, grooves like vintage shambolic garage rock and kills with the in-your-face attitude of Jerry Lee Lewis. Ultimately, this trio takes listeners on a wild and thrilling ride, during which band and fan alike stand at the precipice of order and chaos, the very intersection that defines rock 'n' roll." -- PopMatters

"A unique blend of old-school rock ‘n’ roll and surf with a fiery garage rock spirit, with an intensity and raggedness in the vein of Reigning Sound or Black Lips." -- Treble

Garage soul trio The Woolly Bushmen share a new track from their forthcoming 3rd album today via Treble. Hear and share the hooky power-pop tune "Fine" HERE. (Direct YouTube.)

The Woolly Bushmen also announce US tour dates kicking off in May in support of the album. Please see dates below.

PopMatters recently shared lead single "What Yer Doin' To Me" HERE. (Direct Soundcloud and YouTube.) Punk Rock Theory hosted "Goin' Out West" HERE. (Direct YouTube.)

Formed in early 2011 and based out of Winter Park, Florida, The Woolly Bushmen have managed to combine 1960's rock and roll with 1950's rockabilly and a dash of soul, forming their own unique genre of all original crowd-rocking songs. These young musicians have captured the respect and admiration of seasoned musicians, some icons in their own right, that are twice their age while grabbing every audience by the scruff of their necks and whipping them into a dance frenzy. Teenagers, middle-agers, old-agers, male, female, black, white, green, purple, The Woolly Bushmen tend to appeal to everyone without compromising their style and musical integrity...mass appeal without losing cult appeal...they do their thing and it works! Audience comments run from, "where did this band come from!?", "how did we not know about them before!?", "These guys have IT!", and very often, "the best band I've seen!"

A typical Woolly Bushmen show will see lead singer, Simon Palombi, switch from vintage Farfisa organ to guitar, whilst, Jacob Miller, switches from bass to guitar allowing the band to play two different sets in one, much to the surprise and delight of the audience! The songs of The Woolly Bushmen are based around catchy organ and guitar riffs with infectious choruses that sound straight out of the charts of the late 1950's and 1960's. These all original songs give you, the listener/audience, the sense that you've heard them before...only, you haven't unless you've seen The Woolly Bushmen or listened to Tampa, Orlando, St. Louis, and Philadelphia college/independent radio. The sole purpose of The Woolly Bushmen's music is to get people dancing...and it works every time!

Leave your angst at home, nothing heavy or moody here! One reviewer said, "It's like Buddy Holly fronting The Troggs." Or, "Jerry Lee Lewis on crack" that is the unusual and unique mix of 1950's and 1960's at its best.

Over the past seven years, The Woolly Bushmen have played many notable shows with iconic acts like, Southern Culture on the Skids, The Coathangers, The Black Lips, King Khan, Ty Segall, The Beat, The Fleshtones, Schizophonics, Gringo Star, and many more, as well as frequently being invited to play festivals. They currently do routine tours of Europe and the United States.

From the beginning, The Woolly Bushmen have rarely had to hustle for gigs...shortly after they emerged from their garage studio, they were and continue to be asked to play more gigs than they can handle. Both, The Orlando Weekly and The Orlando Music News have voted them Best New Band, Band of the Week, and Best Orlando Release of 2012...you name it. The Woolly Bushmen have repeatedly been invited to play live on multiple radio stations as well as having regular radio airplay.

In July 2011, The Woolly Bushmen released a demo EP entitled, "Here Cometh The Woolly Bushmen" on cassette tape and sold out in less than 2 months! The band's eponymously titled full length CD was released in July 2012 at a live show in Orlando that saw the parking lot filled with fans unable to get in to the packed club, yet, stayed on site because it was the place to be! The CD received great reviews and has sold thousands without any promotion other than gigs! The band's merchandise, t-shirts, bumper stickers and CD's are sold out as soon as a new run is produced. They released a well-received seven-inch record in April of 2013. All three releases have seen airplay on several radio stations on the east coast.

In 2015 The Woolly Bushmen released their first properly yet self-produced LP Sky Bosses on their self run label Chesterwick Records. The group recently released their latest LP Arduino on L.A.'s Pig Baby Records, produced by Rick Miller of Southern Culture On The Skids

The band's third full length, In Shambles will be available on LP, CD and download on May 10th, 2019 via Pig Baby Records. Pre-orders are available HERE

ZIG-ZAGS share "Killer of Killers" track from forthcoming album on RidingEasy Records, new tour dates

"Sounds like Kill ‘Em All-era Metallica meets Motorhead but with claustrophobic garage rock production. It’s a real ripper." -- Brooklyn Vegan

"A potent dose of galloping, cartoonishly vicious rock'n'roll -- material previously perfected by bands like Motörhead and Megadeth." -- Pitchfork

"Noisy, aggressive, and raucous music that careens between garage rock and heavy metal like an amusement-park ride." -- Stereogum

L.A. punk-metal trio Zig-Zags share another track today from their fourth album, and debut on RidingEasy Records, via CvltNation. Hear and share "Killer of Killers" HERE. (Direct YouTube.)

Zig-Zags play a couple of Southern California shows this weekend -- including the anticipated Psycho Smokeout Festival on 4/20 -- before kicking off European and UK dates throughout May. Please see complete dates below.

Metal Injection recently launched "Fallout" HERE. (Direct YouTube, Bandcamp or Spotify.) And, Brooklyn Vegan hosted album opener "Punk Fucking Metal" HERE (Direct YouTube.)

"Everyone puts photos of Sid Vicious up on Instagram. The other night I watched D.O.A, the documentary about The Sex Pistols' first and only U.S. tour. In it, Sid's a mess, he and his annoying girlfriend. And they're the only ones who get interviewed! Maybe John Lydon and Steve Jones (not to mention the drummer) didn't want to participate. Maybe Nancy made Sid do it. But it whatever the case, I didn't wanna watch it. The rest of the band is crushing! They sound just like the record! As a musician in a touring band, I can't stand Sid Vicious. He's cartoon character with a Swastika shirt, nodding off while everyone else loads the gear. I don't care if it's punk -- you still gotta be able to play."  - J. Maheu, lead vocals and guitar for Zig Zags.

8 years, 7 singles, 3 albums, 3 bass players, 2 drummers and God knows how many shows later - Zig Zags has continually evolved, mutated, transitioned and transformed, rising again and again, like a phoenix emerging from the flame.

The addition of the newest member of our triumvirate - multi-instrumentalist, designated bassist (and longtime Zig Zags sound engineer) Sean Hoffman - recalls those golden moments past, when destiny stepped in...like when Neil Peart joined Rush or Bob Rock teamed up with Metallica.

In short -- the circle is now complete, the cornerstone has been set and the winged serpent rises --once again.

Some say it's luck, but really, it's about patience. A band is like a relationship. You have to know when to push, and when to hold back. You gotta listen and you gotta learn. We look to the masters. Like Henry and Glenn, we've gone from drinking hooch to pumpin' iron. We quit smoking. Two of us are married, for chrissakes! After 2017's brutal European tour, which left us coughing blood and taking names, we sought out Lemmy's Doctor (Feel Good), who diagnosed us with,"Rock'n'roll Pneumonia".  Like Lemmy, we were pushing too hard. And if you push too hard you'll end up in an apartment above The Rainbow Room, playing video poker on Christmas Eve (which is also your birthday)...but that's another story.

The thing is - we ain't dead yet. Every album we record, every song we write - has to be faster, harder and heavier - than the one before. And that's why this new record is all about upping the ante and raises the stakes, and why it marks the dawn of a new day...and a new era.

This album, our first with RidingEasy, was written over the last year. It's reveals our longtime roots, our enduring love (all hail!) to the early punk of our hero(ines) Dead Moon and The Wipers (forever!) but friends, don't be misled...this is a METAL record - of the true blue, headbangin', riff-ridin', no-bullshit - kind.

Listen here - it ain't easy to play guitar and sing at the same time! But the more you focus, the more you get your head in the game, the more you push (yourselves and each other), the better it all gets. And the songs, they thank you for it. They get tougher, wilder and more raw, the more you strip them down.

They'll Never Take Us Alive will be available on LP, CD and download on May 10th, 2019 via RidingEasy Records. Pre-orders are available HERE
