Jail Weddings release second clip, "What Did You Do With My Gun?" from video series for entire 13-song album

Click image above to watch video

"One of the year’s most exhilarating and infectious records, and an assured statement of purpose by one of L.A.’s most compelling groups." -- NBC San Diego
“Hart's obsessively Orbison-esque vocal pleas can send shivers down the spine and draw a tiny tear to the eye in songs that reek of moody doo-wop and do not skimp on the steamy, heaving punk rock & roll.” – LA Weekly

Los Angeles' garage-punk revision of 60s chamber pop, Jail Weddings has released the second clip from their video endeavor that's as ambitious as the 10-piece band's size. Starting with last month's posting of the video for "I Thought You Were Someone I Knew", Jail Weddings will issue new videos for each of the 13 songs on their recent album, Love Is Lawless. The second video, "What Did You Do With My Gun?" has been released.

Watch "What Did You Do With My Gun?" HERE

Love Is Lawless takes the pleading, wide-eyed romance of 60’s pop-vocal idealist tantrums to subterranean levels never previously seen from this genre. A shadow has been cast over the fleeting Utopia of modern love, where we still wear such out of date traditions as marriage and monogamy like shackles on a chain gang. Who better to have cast this shadow then Jail Weddings – a soul-stricken modern day Wall Of Sound rock and roll behemoth, comprised of ten (yes, 10) grown men and women who at least have the guts to admit they have still have the emotional stability of an eternally wounded teenager.

Fronted by Gabriel Hart (explosive frontman and mastermind behind the now defunct LA noir punks The Starvations), Jail Weddings is often described as “Nick Cave fronting The Shangri-Las.” The band has carefully crafted these 13 songs over a three year period (since their actual inception in the summer of 2007), released October 2010 on the still skidding heels of two sold out singles and 2009’s critically acclaimed EP Inconvenient Dreams (White Noise/Tru-Vow).

Sure they may siphon from the 60’s pool, but do not confuse Jail Weddings as any kind of mere throwback act. The sphere of influence is vast, from the grandiose Scott Walker-esque soundscape of the album’s existential opener “How Am I Alive?” to the E-Street Band gone to Hell epic “I Thought You Were Someone I Knew”, to the Sparks meets Meatloaf bombastic melodrama of “What Did You Do With My Gun?”, the band proves its sound is unique as it is limitless.

Even somewhat theatrical in its scope, Love Is Lawless is sprinkled with moments of quieter reprieve as well, with Hart’s folksy “One Of These Days” where he and his vocal bookends (Katya Hubiak and Jada Wagensomer) simply gather around one single acoustic guitar. “Eavesdroppin’" finds Hart and band arranger Brad Caulkins (of LA based band Fool’s Gold) drunken busking free-jazz under a brooding vocal, before the impending “Staring At The Stars” suddenly sneaks up from beneath, making the album explode back into high gear until its unnerving, determined conclusion “The Impossible”.

Boris release first track from forthcoming album Attention Please

Iconoclast Japanese trio Boris have released the first single from Attention Please -- one of TWO all-new full length Boris albums to be released on the same day via Sargent House this spring. The song, "Hope" premiered today via Pitchfork and is available HERE

The track showcases new aspects of the distinctly different sides to the legendary band's personality that can be heard between the pair of albums, Attention Please and the all new Heavy Rocks (not to be confused with the 2002 album of the same name). A track from Heavy Rocks is expected to debut soon.

Boris are widely known for their ability to breach styles and stretch sonic boundaries of all that is heavy, psychedelic, droning and downright cathartic. But, Attention Please is more like a complete redefining of their potential in several ways. First and foremost, it is the first album on which all vocals are sung by lead guitarist, Wata. While she has previously sung on a couple of songs for singles and her solo outings, the entire 10-song album features her intimate, multifaceted vocal style.

Secondly, the songs on Attention Please have a sultry, intoxicating catchiness to them. It's melodic without sounding pop. It's psychedelic without sounding dated. It's heavy without relying on barre chord riffs.

The album opening title track begins with a pulsing kick drum as hushed, seething guitar and bass slither across the beat. Wata's cooing vocals drop in like a whispered warning of treachery to come in the threadbare musical landscape. "Hope" bursts forth like Sonic Youth on a detuned pop jangle, while "Les Paul Custom '86" sounds like a beautifully mutated hybrid of Serge Gainsbourg's playful "Ford Mustang" and the brooding intensity of The XX. Throughout, Attention Please sounds vaguely akin to a guitar-based Tangerine Dream covering Technical Ecstacy-era Black Sabbath

Attention Please came to be after Boris toured the world in 2008 in support of their last album, Smile. The trio set about recording new material and a new album was completed, then abandoned. The band sought to challenge themselves further, and the end results are two new albums of dramatic growth and the most powerful extension to Boris' unparalleled creativity, Attention Please and the all new Heavy Rocks (not to be mistaken for their earlier 2002 release, Heavy Rocks).

Boris formed in the early 90s as a four piece just-for-fun endeavor with the sonic template of influences like Melvins and Earth. By the time of its 1996 debut as a trio Absolutego (later released in the US via Southern Lord in 2000), Boris had already hit its stride in creating unique ground-rattling heavy, melodic music. The group, bassist/vocalist Takeshi, guitarist/vocalist Wata and drummer/vocalist Atsuo went on to release nearly 20 studio albums, as well as numerous collaborative albums -- including projects with Merzbow, Sunn0))), Ian Astbury and Michio Kurihara of Ghost (who also currently tours with the band as second guitarist) -- EPs and singles on various labels throughout the world. For a further in-depth band history and discography, please see HERE

Attention Please and its counterpart, the all new Heavy Rocks will be available worldwide (excluding Japan) on LP, CD and digital download via Sargent House on May 24th, 2011. The vinyl edition of Heavy Rocks will feature extended versions of "Missing Pieces" and "Czechoslovakia".

Post-prog-noir-metal-space-jazz virtuosos Empty Space Orchestra announce album debut, tour dates

Empty Space Orchestra certainly knows how to fill a room. The Bend, OR quintet of impeccable musicians crafts a symphonic, melodic sound that seamlessly weaves together elements of space rock, prog-metal, noir jazz, post-rock and afro-punk all in one massive blast of energy. Having built up a substantial following in the Pacific Northwest, the band will release their self-titled debut album in May and bring their genre-defying sound nationwide.

Check out the first two tracks from the album "Intergalactic Battle Cruiser" HERE and "El Viento" HERE. The band's impeccable musicianship must be seen live -- watch videos for "Exit Strategy" HERE, "Brainjar" HERE and "El Viento" HERE

Their 9-song, 50-minute self-titled debut album is a hook-laden marriage of heft and harmony that veers far away from the navel-gazing jamming often associated with music of such explorative origins. Elements of The Mars Volta's most frenetic moments merge with soaring post-rock of Russian Circles, as well as hints of Deftones, Dub Trio and lilting chamber pop all colliding in brilliant synergy from one song to the next.

The group of classically-trained musicians is anchored by the stunning power and precision of drummer Lindsey Elias -- clearly a musician soon to hold rank amongst her most celebrated male counterparts. Guitarist Shane Thomas and bassist Patrick Pearsall provide a balance of head-bobbing riffs interspersed with tasteful and inventive lines that weave like musical narrative throughout. Meanwhile, multi-instrumentalists Keith O'Dell (keyboards, piano, lap steel) and Graham Jacobs (saxophone, flute, synths) add myriad melodic layers and cinematic moods that often deftly counterbalance heavy riffs with glissando piano melodies and swaggering horns.

The disc was recorded at the popular The Hangar Studios in Sacramento, CA with engineer Robert Cheek (RX Bandits, Deftones, Tera Melos) and mixed by Matt Bayles (Mastodon, Pearl Jam, ISIS) at Red Room Studios in Seattle, WA. Since the band's inception in late 2007, ESO has built a devoted and rapidly growing fan base in the Northwest exclusively on the weight of their highly memorable live performances. While the album perfectly showcases the band's musical precision, it must be noted that ESO is an extremely loud band -- quite possibly the loudest band you will ever see with a saxophone on stage.

"I was spending a lot of time thinking about what Miles Davis used to say; ‘It’s not about the space you play, but the space you leave,'" explains Thomas. "That’s where the ‘Empty Space’ came from… ironically we don’t leave much space in our music." Nonetheless, the sum of Empty Space Orchestra's myriad parts never seem bloated, overblown or obtrusive.

Empty Space Orchestra's self-titled debut will be available everywhere on CD/Digital on May 10th.

British electro-pop trio Nedry issues new single & video, preps US live debut at SXSW

Click image above to watch video

"Gently skittering electronics and slow-building, spacious ambience - Nedry's gorgeous, minimal soundscapes are tailor made for the wee hours." -- Q Magazine

"A futuristic sonic collage of dreamy glitch-folk, shimmering electronica and weapons-grade Dubstep percussion... Feels like a futuristic step forward from Radiohead's In Rainbows or Portishead's Third." Four stars -- Uncut

"Sent shivers down my spine….like Thom Yorke’s Eraser with a bit of a Dubstep vibe and some Post-Rock influences… Nedry's post-dubstep, shoegazy brilliance will make them stand out from the crowd in 2010" -- Huw Stephens - BBC Radio One Introducing

London UK post-dubstep trio Nedry has issued a free new MP3 single  and video for the song, "Dusk Till Dawn" in anticipation of the band's U.S. live debut during SXSW in March. The forthcoming "Dusk Till Dawn" EP will be available commercially on March 14th via Monotreme Records (65daysofstatic, Jeniferever, Barzin) with a B-side remix by Liverpool left field electronic trio Capac

"Dusk Till Dawn" cleared for posting: (MP3) (VIDEO)

"Dusk Till Dawn" is Nedry's first new material since the dazzling fusion of electronica, instrumental rock, dub-step rhythms and hauntingly beautiful vocals of their 2010 debut album Condors saw them tipped for greatness by BBC Radio One, The Guardian, Uncut and Q Magazine.

Nedry makes its stateside live debut during the legendary SXSW festival in Austin, TX in March. The band will then tour Japan with Maps and Atlases in April & May, and festival dates in the UK and Europe in the summer. See currently announced dates below.

Nedry is Matt Parker, Chris Amblin and Ayu Okakita. Nedry create music to bounce to, rock-out to and get lost in. Their beautiful sound and arresting beats are from and for the "post-" generation. Their sound is dark and ambient but broken-up and lifted by moments of glitch and fuzzy, melodic guitars. Both live and on record they use innovative production techniques to create a truly original sound.

Nedry started performing, producing and recording in summer 2008. In a little over a year they've made waves on the UK electronic music scene, sharing stages with the likes of Pivot (Warp), Maps (MUTE), The Gaslamp Killer (Brainfeeder) and Daedelus (Ninja Tune). Nedry have steadily gathered critical acclaim since the self-released SZ EP, and support from the likes of Q Magazine and The Times as well as airplay on a host of radio stations including XFM, Resonance FM, BBC 6Music and BBC Radio 1 has assured them as one of the most exciting bands to emerge in 2009. BBC Radio 1 DJ and new music guru Huw Stephens in particular has championed the Nedry sound, inviting them to the famous Maida Vale studios to record a live session for his show.

L.A. indie-pop faves ROBOTANISTS reinterpret entire new Radiohead album in 24 hours

"Robotanists root around in the electro-noir explored by Mazzy Star and Portishead, with Ellquist's sultry voice narrating the way through forays into the dark both metaphorical and literal. Their penchant for the atmospheric never becomes an overbearing aesthetic, though - you can take the title of one of their songs, 'Subtlety Is Underrated,' seriously." -- Kevin Bronson, Buzz Bands

While most Radiohead fans were still absorbing the band's new album, Los Angeles' glamorous indie-pop group ROBOTANISTS reinterpreted, recorded and released their own version of The King of Limbs in its entirety, just 24 hours after its release. Their version of the album is available for streaming and FREE download HERE.

Just last week, ROBOTANISTS released their own third full length album, Plans In Progress, produced by Danny Kalb (Beck, Karen O, Feist). RCRD LBL recently posted the premiere of the song, "On/Off The Ledge", which is available HERE. Check out the complete Plans In Progress album HERE

The quartet, often compared to Florence + The Machine, Jenny Lewis, The Xx, et al., is currently headlining a residency at the Silverlake Lounge in Los Angeles every Monday night throughout February. In March, ROBOTANISTS play several shows at the South By Southwest Festival in Austin, TX. Please see current dates below.

Check out videos and MP3s from
ROBOTANISTS' previous releases: "Wait A Minute Here" (MP3) (VIDEO) from Close Down The Woods and their brilliant reworking of the Jay-Z hit, "Empire State of Mind" as "Exiled State of Mind" (MP3) (VIDEO) from the Shapes and Variations covers project.

Comprised of songwriters Sarah Ellquist (vocals and keys) and Daniel DeBlanke (guitar, keys) and rhythm section Keith Boyarsky (bass) and Preston Scott Phillips (drums),
ROBOTANISTS have spent the past couple of years spreading their big choruses and delicate prose across North America on tour and on the radio. Their breakthrough single "Wait a Minute Here" (from the band's 2008 debut, Close Down The Woods) topped charts in Los Angeles (KCRW, KROQ) and other major cities across the US. "Subtlety is Underrated" was recently featured in a particularly provocative striptease scene on the 2011 season premiere of the MTV hit reality show, The Jersey Shore.

The group's latest effort further expands its lush and lulling sound with contributions from Brad Breek (
The Mae Shi, Skull Tape) who added analog synth throughout.

02/28    Los Angeles, CA @ Silverlake Lounge

Tera Melos premiere new video from forthcoming EP, launch co-headlining tour with Marnie Stern

Click image above to watch video

"Once in a rare while an album comes along that's so fresh and ingenious it redefines what's possible in a field of music. It's been some time since a trio armed with guitar, drums, bass and vocals have shattered the boundaries of convention and pushed the limits of their instruments and compositions like a graceful tsunami of invention. " -- Exclaim!

"Tera Melos has ferociously explored the outer limits of bizarre time signatures and unhinged thrash since its self-titled 2005 debut. But the band's full-length, Patagonian Rats is more akin to the type of freak-pop perversion dished out by daring pioneers like Devo and The Flaming Lips." -- Wired.com

Sacramento genre-benders Tera Melos premiere a new video today for the song "Manar The Magic" via Tiny Mix Tapes. The track is culled from the forthcoming 6-song EP Zoo Weather and deluxe digital edition of their recently released Patagonian Rats album (both via Sargent House). The track, "Manar The Magic" features a spoken cameo by Mike Watt and is posted courtesy of RCRD LBL HERE.

Tera Melos kick off co-headlining US tour dates with guitar goddess Marnie Stern on Friday night, February 18th in Los Angeles. Please see full dates below.

Zoo Weather will be available on February 22nd, 2011 on cassette and digital download. The EP features 3 new songs and 3 remixed tracks (including a remix by Japanese noise legends Melt Banana). All tracks from Zoo Weather, plus two additional songs (a total of 20) will also be available the same day as part of the deluxe digital package for the band's recent full-length, Patagonian Rats

Patagonian Rats landed on many Best of 2010 lists, as well as receiving raves from Wired.com, Exclaim!, ALARM Press, Impose and Exploding In Sound. Marnie Stern also named it her favorite album of the year in SPIN. MP3 and video links follow below, or stream the entire Tera Melos discography via Bandcamp

Boris announce TWO new albums out on Sargent House on the same day this spring

Iconoclast Japanese trio Boris have announced not one, but TWO all-new full length albums to be released on the same day via Sargent House this spring. The pair of recordings showcase distinctly different sides of the legendary band's personality, while providing further proof of their trenchant significance.

About both albums, Attention Please and the all new Heavy Rocks -- please see track listings and cover art below:

Boris - Attention Please - LP/CD/digital

Boris - Heavy Rocks - LP/CD/digital
Boris has earned its rabid cult following for their ability to expertly harness music as power. Be it psychedelic metal, colossal drone, blistering punk or distortion-ravaged shoegaze, a Boris song is an exploration of sound as physical mass. The Japanese trio's classic 2002 album, Heavy Rocks is a landmark of their mastery. So, it's fitting that the group's new album sharing the same title and very similar artwork to that disc, Heavy Rocks (2011) seeks to redefine "heavy" music in a culmination of the band's tireless efforts over the past two decades. This year's Heavy Rocks is beyond heavy, it firmly establishes Boris as a pillar of innovation and integrity in guitar-based music.
