Here Lies Man: Antibalas members, "if Black Sabbath played Afrobeat" premiere first song from forthcoming debut

"It's funky, groovy, heavy, and trippy all at once, and it rules pretty hard." -- Brooklyn Vegan

Los Angeles quintet Here Lies Man share the first song from their forthcoming self-titled debut album today via Brooklyn Vegan. The song "You Ain't Goin' Nowhere" is available to hear and share HERE. (Direct YouTube and Soundcloud.)

What if Black Sabbath played Afrobeat? In short, that’s the underlying vibe to the self-titled debut by Here Lies Man. The L.A. based quintet is founded and conceptualized by Marcos Garcia of Antibalas, bringing his erudite experience of World rhythms and music to the more riff-based foundations of heavy rock. The results are an incredibly catchy and refreshing twist on classic forms, without sounding forced and trite like some sort of mash-up attempt. Here Lies Man merges and expands musical traditions organically, utilizing the talents of drummer Geoff Mann (son of jazz musician Herbie Mann and former Antibalas member) and a host of skilled musicians to make Garcia’s vision a reality.

“These repetitive guitar figures that happen in Afrobeat music are pretty close to heavy rock guitar riffs,” Garcia explains. “It’s based on the clave. It’s the musical algorithm that the rhythms revolve around. That’s what gives it integrity and is part of this musical conversation going on. I knew I wanted it to be psychedelic and heavy, and I wanted to be expanding on a musical tradition than pretending to be creating something new.” The recording and band came together in the somewhat spontaneous fashion for which L.A. is famous. Garcia and Mann laid down the foundations and the band quickly expanded the recording and live shows soon followed.

And that expansion is the brilliant, hazy, psychedelic, hook-laden 8-song masterwork Here Lies Man, available on LP, CD and download on April 7th, 2017 via RidingEasy Records. Pre-orders are available at iTunes and RidingEasyRecs.com

Evil Triplet premiere new track from debut, heavy psych from Austin punk pioneer ex-Terminal Mind w/ mbrs of My Education, Cinders

"From Hawkwind to HendrixGong to Guru GuruNeu! to noise, the lysergic local trio synthesizes psych rock, classic rock, Krautrock, and punk." -- Austin Chronicle

Austin trio Evil Triplet premiere a new track from their forthcoming double LP debut album Otherworld today via Impose Magazine. Hear and share "Star Ladder" HERE. (Direct Soundcloud).

The Austin Chronicle recently featured the band, also highlighting vocalist/guitarist Steve Marsh's extensive background from 70s-80s punk progenitors Terminal Mind, to late-80s industrial-psych Miracle Room and later period noise merchants Wisdom Tooth. Read more and hear Evil Triplet album track "Get a Job" HERE

Echoes & Dust previously launched album track "Pyramids", available to hear and share HERE. Direct Soundcloud HERE.)

Evil Triplet is a heavy psych trio from Austin, TX. The space rock behemoth is comprised of Steve Marsh (guitar and vocals), Kirk Laktas (drums), and Joe Volpi (bass).

Marsh traces back to Terminal Mind, a seminal band in the Austin punk scene of the late 70s that spawned The Big Boys and The Dicks (Super Secret offshoot Sonic Surgery Records will be reissuing Terminal Mind's original recorded output, plus unreleased studio and live tracks, later in 2017). He then led Miracle Room, a psychedelic industrial hoedown that shared stages with Snakefinger, Butthole Surfers, Scratch Acid, Negativland, and Sonny Sharrock, among others, and morphed into Wisdom Tooth, which released a CD on Knitting Factory's imprint.

Kirk is the keyboard wizard in post-rock bands My Education and Cinders, and was an early member of Stars Of The Lid. He has worked sessions with Acid Mothers Temple, Shearwater, Pauline Oliveros and ST37.

Mr Volpi toured and recorded with Primordial Undermind, as well as lending his chops to countless other Austin bands, including The Flood and Reverend Glasseye. He also performs a dark acoustic song cycle solo as Kaiser Soze, and plays standup bass in Cinders.

Evil Triplet recorded their debut opus at Sonic Ranch Studios, in the desert outside El Paso, TX. The sound is lush, lysergic and overpowering. In addition to the solid foundation of classic heavy guitar rock, there are multiple points of experimentation, with Marsh attacking the electric guitar with vibrator, drill, electric razor and music box. There are also underlying synth loops, piano and organ, all in service to the tripped-out material, with lyrics covering such topics as space, mushrooms, human consciousness as alien possession, and a plea from Lucifer to his minions to stay in school.

The record will be distributed by Revolver USA and available in 180g vinyl and CD at record stores and by mail order from Super Secret Records. The band will be touring to support the record release this Spring, so get ready to be absorbed into Evil Triplet's Otherworld!

Otherworld will be available on LP, CD and download on February 10th, 2017 via Super Secret Records

Stream entire 'experimental instruments' compilation (Dan Deacon, Silver Apples, David Grubbs, Oval) ahead of release at Brooklyn Vegan

"At two LPs deep, it is a highly stacked tour of musicians discovering all sorts of ways to contribute to (or rip up) the legacy of instrumentation." -- Tiny Mix Tapes

"Spectacular sounds using atypical tools." -- Stereogum

NYC label Dymaxion Groove is streaming in its entirety today the forthcoming double-LP compilation of artists working with experimental instrumentation to create new and unique sounds. I Said No Doctors! features such legends as Silver Apples, David Grubbs, Oval, Dan Deacon, Jad Fair and more. Brooklyn Vegan hosts the album stream, available to hear and share HERE. (Direct Soundcloud).

Stereogum recently shared Dan Deacon's "Opal Toad Segment" HERE. The Spill Magazine launched Tom Tolleson's "Kosciuszko" HERE. Northern Transmissions hosted glitch pioneer Oval's track "ISND" HERE

Silver Apples recently shared a video for their compilation track via Tiny Mix Tapes. The video for "The Mist" (along with an insightful interview) is available to watch and share HERE. (Direct YouTube.)

I Said No Doctors! double-LP is a compilation of the most groundbreaking artists of current and past decades who have redefined sound by creating and destroying musical instruments to fit a specific sonic character and method of music-making.

During this audio journey we hear Silver Apples' Simeon Coxe combining bench oscillators, sound filters, telegraph keys and radio parts into one of the first electronic instruments. David Grubbs (Gastr del Sol, Bastro, Squirrel Bait, The Red Crayola) plays an alligator-clip prepared guitar. Markus Popp's composition features his Oval Process software. Indonesian noise band Senyawa plays a modified Javanese farm plough. Dan Deacon generates an atonal barrage of MIDI-triggered pin-point notes from an acoustic grand piano. Jad Fair's custom guitar, in which the neck attaches to the body using a system of rubber bands, allows dramatic bends. Bismuth, featuring Yuri Landman (who has built guitars for Thurston Moore and Lee Renaldo of Sonic Youth) performs on prepared guitars and other instruments created by his Hypercustom Guitars. Ciat Lonbarde's Peter B plays the Deerhorn synthesizer.

The compilation is curated by Dymaxion Groove founder Tom Tolleson, who plays a modified Fender Jazzmaster with a ¾ ratio of separate playable strings over two pickups on the album as well.

I Said No Doctors! is a celebration of sound and artistry beyond the range provided by standard musical instruments. This double-LP is available in two variants, colored and black vinyl,
both 180-gram, each with a digital download card.

I Said No Doctors! will be available on 2xLP and download on January 27th, 2017. Pre-orders (with immediate download of select tracks) are available HERE

Monolord premiere video for "Lord of Suffering" at Metal Injection

Click image above to watch video

"Monolord is on the rise in the realm of metal, and for damn good reason - the band knows how to do doom metal right." -- Metal Injection

Swedish trio Monolord premiere the first video from their new 10" EP today via Metal Injection. The 12-minute video is culled from footage shot throughout the band's extensive US and EU touring last summer. Watch and share "Lord of Suffering" HERE. (Direct YouTube.)

Hear and share the entire Lord of Suffering / Die in Haze EP by the band Noisey calls "universally beloved" and "Swedish doom royalty" HERE. (Direct Soundcloud). Monolord's full discography is available on RidingEasy Records

Metal Sucks hailed Monolord's Vænir as, "far and away one of my favorite doom releases of 2015 so far, possibly even of the past few years. There's just something about the way these guys construct riffs that sets them apart from the pack, and the production style they've chosen -- clear and concise, but still massively powerful and raw in tone -- perfectly underscores what they're doing."

Noisey calls it, "a sludge-doom offering with guitars like chainsaws, bringing to mind Matt Pike's epic tone on The Art of Self-Defense. The massive, ten-ton brick of a record relies on a blues groove though, and not long-stroke, droning nonsense. Heavily treated melodic vocals bring to mind Ozzy during 'Planet Caravan,' and add to the mysticism and darkness surrounding the release. This is one massive record."

"Typical of Monolord," says Consequence of Sound, "the vocals are dreamy and ethereal, only here they're placed up front, with the chorus even touting a catchy melodic hook. It's a truly modern sound: recognizably doom, but with the glistening production values of Sigur Ros and adventurous songcraft of Rush."
