The Burning Paris album out now! Reunited Boston strings-based, slowcore group returns w/ Everything is Broken & I Don’t Feel a Thing

"Wonderfully melancholic... Sounds like TIndersticks jamming with Low. Simply superb." -- Echoes & Dust

Beverly, Massachusetts quintet The Burning Paris release their first album in over 2 decades today, titled Everything is Broken & I Don't Feel a Thing via Dark Operative & Pax Aeternum. Hear and share the album via Bandcamp, Spotify and all other DSPs.

Everything is Broken & I Don't Feel a Thing proves well worth the wait.

Known in the early-mid 2000's for a unique sound marked by glacially-paced arrangements, somnambulic, shoegaze-ish vocal treatments, and classical instruments woven tastefully between otherwise-traditional rock instruments, the 2023 incarnation of The Burning Paris picks up precisely where it all left off, nary missing a beat.

From the delicate establishing notes and the very first line ("Wake me when it's done") of "Merganser," the album's opener, it should be clear to prior fans of the band that this is but a continuation. For those encountering the band for the first time, the sound remains prescient and distinctive when held up against all that has come before and what will come after Everything is Broken & I Don't Feel a Thing.

Sometimes it takes the absolute bleakest, most existential albums possible to be the proverbial silver lining in whatever we go through in this life. The Burning Paris has once again delivered the goods.

Everything is Broken & I Don't Feel a Thing is available on LP, CD and digital on July 14th, 2023 via Dark Operative & Pax Aeternum. Orders are available HERE

L.A. classic shoegaze band A Reminder share first single from upcoming debut LP mixed by Failure's Ken Andrews & Ringo Deathstarr's Elliott Frazier

Los Angeles classic shoegaze band A Reminder share the first single from their forthcoming debut album today via Echoes & Dust. Hear/share "Another Day" HERE

A Reminder are an American alternative rock band formed in West Los Angeles by long-time friends, Bassist/Vocalist Jonathan Burkes, Drummer Kenny Ramirez, Guitarist/Vocalist Richard Abagon, and Keyboardist Edwin Portillo.

Their music is expressed through a blend of ambient, post-shoegaze, and hard rock. Exploring alternate time signatures and injected with melodically empathetic to raging vocals, A Reminder weaves texturally moody guitars with brooding layers of sub-synth bass and pads. The group acknowledges their infusion of subtle nods to a broad range of metal, indie-dream pop, post-rock, and progressive rock influences within their sound.

The band recalls arriving at their name through the feeling of what initially reminded them and "inspired us all to make music and to never grow old." That motif kept appearing as an affirmation of mindfulness and awareness of the gift of presence within creativity and daily life. The song, "A Reminder" by Radiohead came on one day and all of these similar themes collectively added to the realization that everything

was a reminder and that the band now had a name and a direction.

A Reminder has long been connected by a rooted network of members since the mid 90's. In early projects, drummer Kenny Ramirez and Keyboardist Edwin Portillo shared stages alongside diverse acts such as Weapon of Choice, Trulio Disgracias, Skankin' Pickle and Michelle Shocked. Richard and Jonathan signed to Interscope Records with their hybrid electro-rock group, Woven in 2001, featuring Jonathan on bass and vocal duties and Richard on drums.

In 2015 Johnathan recruited Kenny Ramirez for what would be the template for A Reminder with original keyboardist, Andrew Rodriguez. Shortly after, rounding out the sound with the addition of Richard Abagon on guitars and vocals. In the summer of 2017 Andrew would leave the group giving way to Edwin Portillo finalizing the current lineup of the band.

A Reminder is positioned to release their first full-length album entitled, Only The Silence in You in the Fall of 2023. The album encompasses a wide range of emotionally and musically dynamic performances canying the listener through a sweeping exploration of atmospheric and hard, alt-rock bombast. The 8 song self-produced album was recorded by the band in their West Los Angeles studio and will see a physical 12" vinyl variant and will be available on all major digital platforms.

The two lead singles representing the album, "Another Day" a wistful shoegaze nod to MBV and Slowdive-era fuzz tones with its melodically dreamy chorus creating the swoony soundtrack to your summer crush. Mixed by Eliott Frazier of Austin's Ringo Deathstarr. "Undo" exhibits a haunting alt-rock staccato charge that echoes the driving and crooning emotions of Deftones and Muse with an arena-sized, falsetto chorus. Mixed by Ken Andrews of Failure.

Only The Silence In You will be available on LP and download on September 15th, 2023. Pre-orders are available HERE

Noisy 90s-indie punk inspired trio LOVE ETHIC share Barbie-themed video, on tour now

"There’s a definitive 90s indie-punk vein running through their songs (think Shellac, Girls Against Boys) but it’s swirled up in classic pop hooks and propulsive modern production and musicianship." -- Spill Magazine

"The guitars burst with exceptional chord progressions, riffs, jaw-dropping virtuosities, melodies, harmonies, accentuations, and licks, while the rhythm section provides heaviness, density, and power through equally mind-blowing low-end tones and rhythmic acrobatics... Shines with many qualities renowned names like NoMeansNo, Fugazi, Minutemen, Melvins, and many others brought decades before, but Love Ethic uplifted all these music styles on an entirely new and unique level." -- Thoughts Words Action

Pittsburgh trio Love Ethic share the official video for "The End of an Era" from their debut album The Thinking Man's Redux today via Spill Magazine. Watch "The End of an Era" HERE. (Direct YouTube.)

Hear and share The Thinking Man's Redux via Bandcamp, Spotify and Apple Music.

The influence of punk history on Love Ethic’s music is no secret. The band wields angular texture, guitar eruptions, non-sequitur genre-bending, and an arresting holler from frontman/guitarist The Inevitable Mr. Chris that would fit seamlessly next to their predecessors (e.g. Minutemen, Nomeansno, The Birthday Party, Fugazi, Melvins, etc.)

The ferocity, however, is punctuated by exhalations of pop sensibility, delta moans, and a crooning allure that have attracted a broad mix of listeners to this dynamic music.

The band revived its musical enterprise just over a year ago in its birthplace of Pittsburgh, PA with a young, hungry rhythm section comprised of Anthony Capozzi’s searing drum battery and complex counterpoints provided by bass virtuoso Ethan Zajac-Woodie. Since then, they have quickly garnered glowing attention performing alongside a variety of established groups including Jon Spencer + The Hitmakers, Ed fROMOHIO (of fIREHOSE), Sponge, The Schizophonics, and Beechwood.

Love Ethic has recently completed a reworked album of their early oeuvre engineered/produced by Spotlights (Ipecac) helmsman extraordinaire Mario Quintero and mastered by Seth Manchester of Machines with Magnets studio (METZ/IDLES, Mdou Moctar, Full of Hell), intent on expanding their territory in audiences’ hearts and record collections both domestically and abroad.

The Thinking Man's Redux will be available on LP, CD and download on April 28th, 2023.

AURALAYER streaming forthcoming debut LP in full early via Decibel Magazine

"Primed to become your next favorite band." -- Metal Sucks

"An absolute joy to listen to and perhaps one of the most inventive albums to be released this year." -- Outlaws of the Sun

"Think the early days of Red Fang, when every chord and note was dripping with urgency, but with, one hand, a dash of progginess thrown in and, on the other, a dollop of sludgy sweetness that makes one think of Torche." -- Heavy Blog is Heavy

“Auralayer blend doom and guitar-forward pop sensibilities, capturing the decade from ’95 to 2005 when a generation of sing-along sludge blossomed from grunge’s demise.” — Decibel Magazine

Auralayer, the visionary and captivating power trio out of Greenville, SC, are streaming their forthcoming raucous debut album, Thousand Petals, ahead of release today via Decibel Magazine. Hear/share Thousand Petals HERE

Metal Sucks recently launched the single HERE. (Direct Bandcamp.) Heavy Blog is Heavy recently hosted the debut of the official video for "You Walk" HERE. (Direct YouTube.)

Delivering a unique blend of powerful doom riffs, kinetic progressive rock drums, and electrifying pop-inspired melodies, Thousand Petals is impressively heavy and undeniably catchy.

The band’s signature brand of metal comes from its members’ diverse musical interests. “I’m really into doom, especially bands like High on Fire,” says guitarist Thomas Powell. “Vladimir, the drummer, is really into progressive rock, and his favorite drummer is Neil Peart. And Jake, our bassist, really likes pop music—The Beatles and Talking Heads.” Thanks to those disparate influences, the band is largely unencumbered by typical doom and stoner rock clichés during the writing phase—a fact that has helped them develop their own original metal sound.

To help them harness their energetic musical vision, the band recruited Philip Cope, the founder of the experimental metal band Kylesa, to engineer, mix, and master their debut at Jam Room Recording Studio in Columbia, SC. As with Kylesa, Cope helped to capture and channel the band’s diverse influences and experimentation into a cohesive sonic palette—on both the debut album and the band’s 2021 Solar Plexus EP.

“Phil has had a huge influence on me as an artist,” says Powell, “so it was great having him around. He’s just as passionate about our music as we are, so it almost feels like he’s part of the band. And since he’s worked on so many cool projects, like the first Baroness album, he has so many cool perspectives and great attention to detail, and that really helped us capture the sound we were going for.”

Despite the band’s collective encyclopedic knowledge of music, the trio has also pulled inspiration from a variety of artistic and philosophical sources—while still maintaining a unified final product. The album title, for example, comes from the Sahasrara padma, the crown chakra that translates to “the lotus of a thousand petals” and is symbolic of supreme consciousness and enlightenment.

Thousand Petals comes after the success of the band’s original demo EP, Solar Plexus (also inspired by Eastern cultures and the Chakra Manipura), which was released on August 13, 2021. All three songs from that demo—“Christ Antler,” “Faith to Reason,” and “All My Time” — have been sharpened and honed onto Thousand Petals

Thousand Petals will be available on LP, CD and download on July 14th, 2023 via King Volume Records. Pre-orders are available HERE
