Perseus War is the 3rd album by Australian born, UK based artist Dez Dare. Leading on from 2022's Ulysses Trash, Dez presents 10 songs of dystopian indifference captured over 4 weeks in late 2022. Meant to be a companion EP to the last record, ideas spilled, riffs flowed, Perseus was born.

Dez Dare (aka Darren Smallman of BATTLE WORLDWIDE, Low Transit Industries, Thee Vinyl Creatures, The Sound Platform, Warped) grew up in Geelong, a port city located on Corio Bay and the Barwon River, in the state of Victoria, Australia where he became involved in the local punk and rock scene in 1990, playing in a band called Warped, sharing stages with the likes of Bored!, The 5678s, Fugazi, and The Dirty Three, going on to play in multiple bands spewing out sludgy punk rock, drone riffage and noisy pop abundance. Darren was embedded in the scene, playing music, running labels (founding record label and touring company Low Transit Industries in 1999 working with bands such as The Essex Green, Lilys, Elf Power, Okkervil River, Of Montreal, Black Mountain, Trans Am) before moving to the UK in 2010 where he has operated ever since.

"I looked into the void to find solace (freedom to fight, freedom of mind)," is sung out in the opening line of "STOP. STOP. STOP. TALKING." Regardless of the viewpoint Dez is singing from, this is the underlying sentiment. You can only be truly free with acceptance. Accepting you for who you are, that we all one day will die, that humans are flawed and beautiful, that otters are the best animals. Let go. The void has it covered.

Denver progressive Black Metal quartet Harboured release their self-titled debut full length today via new California label Lost Future Records. Hear and share the Harboured album via Bandcamp and all platforms HERE.

The self-titled debut from Harboured is the opening statement of a band that already sounds like they are in their prime. Manic breakbeats paired with progressive metal riffs and melody are the band’s bread and butter, but they are not afraid of slipping into a more experimental sound on these 6 tracks. Opener “Anterior" uses synths and chanted vocals to set the stage for the next 35 minutes of absolutely brutal music. Guitarists Michael Stancel (Allegaeon) and Nick Hennig (Vimana) use a dual guitar approach to create walls of sound and intricate harmonies, while drummer Cierra White (Oak, Ash & Thorn) plays some of the most technically challenging material in modern metal. Bassist Brandon Michael (Allegaeon) completes the sound with his signature low end shredding. The result is a confident album that sounds well beyond the first outing for a band. 

Formed in the bowels of the pandemic lockdown, Michael Stancel was looking to collaborate with friends in the Denver area on a new black metal project, one that could take the intricate guitar work he refined in Allegaeon and move into a less technical but no less powerful sound. He recruited White (Oak, Ash & Thorn) on drums, and Hennig (Vimana) on guitar to help develop the crushing sounds he had been creating on his own. Finally, he enlisted long-time Allegaeon bandmate Brandon Michael on bass and completed the quartet. The band recorded their debut self-titled LP with producer/engineer Scott Evans (Kowloon Walled City) at his Oakland based studio, Anti-Sleep.

Karma Vulture is a desert rock power trio from Joshua Tree, now based in Nashville, consisting of singer/bassist Conor Spellane, guitarist Will Hammond, and drummer Ben Foerg. The band has a familiar yet idiosyncratic sound, blending elements of stoner rock and 90s grunge with hints of classic rock, psych and modern alternative rock for good measure. The band executes their earworm hooks and hammer-dropping riffs with equal aplomb. Or, in other words: It’s super catchy, super heavy and super dope. 

Founded in late-2018, the band hit its stride with the addition of Foerg on drums, and released its first EP with their current lineup in early 2022. Death By Comfort was recorded by Norm Block (Mark Lanegan, Brian Jonestown Massacre) in Spring 2020 just as the world was shutting down due to the Covid-19 pandemic. They finished it remotely thru the pandemic, with mixing engineer Joshua Martinez, and then used the remaining months of the lockdown to record their first full-length LP, Something Better, which drops in April 2023.

Austin/NYC trio Kill Normal share the first single from their debut album today via New Noise Magazine. Hear and share "Kill Normal" HERE. (Direct Bandcamp.)

Kill Normal is the debut release by the rock trio Kill Normal, comprising members of former noise rock bands Barkmarket and Miracle Room. Steve Marsh, Miracle Room’s vocalist/guitarist, joins up once again with Rock Savage, Miracle Room’s drum pounder who also played in Barkmarket, and the singular Barkmarket bassist John Nowlin. With a pedigree like that, you would expect some riveting music, and you would not be disappointed.

Composed during sessions in 2018 when Marsh was passing through New York to play some shows in Europe, the band recorded in a tiny, unairconditioned rehearsal space in Long Island City. Marsh then later added vocals and other tracks in a studio in Texas.

The results are massive sounding, thanks to the huge drums and relentless bass riffs, with dynamic, twisted lyrics and grinding guitar. Kill Normal combines the historic Lower East Side noise rock vibe with elements of prog and punk to create a sound that is at once totally unique and yet very familiar. The band will be booking live shows to support the release on Austin, Texas’ Flak Records.
