"Off-kilter" noise rockers Tunic premiere lead track from new album via CvltNation

"Off f**king kilter but totally on point!" -- CvltNation

Canadian noise rock trio Tunic share the first track from their forthcoming album today via CvltNation. Hear and share "Nothing Nothing" HERE. (Direct Bandcamp and Soundcloud.)

The band is currently on an extensive North American tour. Please see all dates below.

Tunic is born of spite. After years of touring someone else’s bass lines across the globe, David Schellenberg was told he wasn’t good enough. So he did the only logical thing: buy a guitar, quit your long-time band, and abandon everything you think you know about music. Armed with no skill and a blissfully ignorant embrace of discordant noise, Schellenberg started crafting songs, quickly enlisting childhood acquaintance Sam Neal on drums and roommate Rory Ellis on bass.

Over the past 4 years and half a dozen DIY releases, Tunic has managed to unleash and tame their unique blend of noise rock and hardcore. Relentless touring has taken them across Canada, Europe and the States, filling clubs, basements, and abandoned prisons with noise. The band released the single Teeth Showing on Toronto’s Buzz Records in 2018, which they toured with new drummer Dan Unger.

Tunic's debut album Complexion was recorded in six days in their hometown of Winnipeg, Manitoba with Montreal-based engineer and producer Jace Lasek (Suuns, Land of Talk, Wolf Parade). Complexion picks up where previous releases left off; 11 songs of feedback-laden filth laid over churning blows of drum and bass. Harsh verses about hurting those you never meant to hurt; choruses that sever ties where you never thought you had to. This is unconventional hardcore. This is broken indie rock. This is naïve art.

Complexion will be available on LP, CD and download on February 8th, 2018 via Self Sabotage Records (Pre-order at Big Cartel-Self Sabotage).

Darwin's Finches share psych-punk track via Big Takeover reminiscent of Camper Van Beethoven, The Frogs, Pixies, etc.

"A kind of collision between Hawkwind at its most hyped, the Butthole Surfers at their most acidic with little doses of Krautrock thrown in for good measure." -- PopMatters

"With a burgeoning atmosphere as fraught as a coming storm and taut as stretched wire, 'Hosea!' relentlessly chugs along with sizzling, but heavy guitar grind, pushing drum beats, and burnished cymbals hits." -- Big Takeover

Houston trio Darwin's Finches share a new track from their forthcoming album today via Big Takeover Magazine. Hear and share "Hosea!" HERE. (Direct Soundcloud.)

PopMatters recently shared "HWY 787" HERE. (Direct Bandcamp HERE.)

With a name making reference to obscure minutia of Charles Darwin's research regarding the adaptive evolution of birds' beaks, one might expect a certain esoteric character to a band. And Darwin's Finches is certainly an anomaly of its own. But that doesn't mean that they're not a brilliantly catchy band. In fact, Good Morning Creatures II, the trio's third album is a tart and twangy, hook-filled 10-song batch of great rock songs that sound as if they'd evolved completely out of contact with the rest of the rock world.

The Galveston, TX based band of pranksters, formed around a biology class, who got their start crashing biker bars and playing shows that provoked fisticuffs, Darwin's Finches aren't a normal band.

The album's music hearkens to late-80s weirdo indie-rock tinged with psychedelic Western vibes like Camper Van Beethoven, Butthole Surfers, Alice Donut, and the Pixies combined with the demented melodies of The Frogs. Guitarist/vocalist and bandleader Justin Clay sports a master crooner's wail; sounding something akin to a young Paul Westerberg

Darwin's Finches was formed in 2006 by Justin as part band, part prank. Joined originally by friends in his Biology class, Clay and a rotating cast of players have played everything from pop-up shows at biker bars (to mixed reviews), art museums, random national parks, shows at clubs that ended with fruit fights and a culminating three-hour show at the legendary Balinese Room that ended with a guitar sacrificed to the Gulf of Mexico.

Justin took a break from music in 2012 for two years to enjoy his family and the birth of his son, Odin.  When he returned to music in 2014, he joined long-time friend and fellow Texas folk psych master Jandek for shows in the UK.  Upon his return home, Justin reformed Darwin's Finches with long-time music partners, Cody Honey on drums and Morgan Moody on bass.

Good Morning Creatures II will be available on LP and download on December 14th, 2018 via Artificial Head Record & Tapes (AHRT).

Shooting Guns share video for "French Safe"; Netflix hit 'WolfCop' composers & Juno Prize nominees' new album

"The instrumental psych-rock band knows how to choogle, burn and rip like Hawkwind thrown into the middle of a Mad Max set. That's why director Lowell Dean tapped Shooting Guns to score Wolfcop, a 2014 horror-comedy that's exactly as ridiculous/awesome as you think it is." -- NPR

"Heavy, droning, and trancelike, owing as much to Electric Wizard as it does early Pink Floyd, and their work in film is obvious once you listen to the cinematic nature of the song." -- Metal Insider

Canada's award-nominated psych 6-piece Shooting Guns share the official video for "French Safe" from their recently released album Flavour Country. Watch and share "French Safe" on YouTube HERE.

Exclaim! also recently launched the video for "Vampires of Industry," directed by Parker Thiessen HERE. (Direct YouTube.) The official video for album title track "Flavour Country" previously launched HERE. (Direct YouTube.) Hear & share the entire album via Bandcamp and YouTube (either link cleared for posting.)

Shooting Guns is known (and oft-nominated) for their film soundtrack work, but Flavour Country is more like a collection of anthems for your jettison from this universe into the multiverse.

While they're known for heavy and saturated sounds befitting crazed horror-comedy flicks like Netflix hit WolfCop, Flavour Country features some of the band's fastest, heaviest and most visceral material to date. Yet, it also features some of the band's most atmospheric sounds as well.

At times there are slight hints of Ennio Morricone's Spaghetti Western twang amidst the looping Meddle-era Pink Floyd heavy psych and driving drone reminiscent of Bobby Beausoleil's belladonna laced soundtrack to Kenneth Anger's Lucifer Rising. But for the most part here, Shooting Guns is out for blood, regardless of tempo.

Album opener "Ride Free" kicks off with a blistering wall of guitars blaring and rattling out of the gate like mutant progeny to fellow Canadian biker-rock heroes Steppenwolf having duly fired all of the guns, exploded into space and returned to hunt down every last one of us. It accelerates from there: "French Safe" sounds like an unhinged battalion of musicians driving full throttle like a scene from a George Miller Road Warrior movie. Biting, lengthier tracks like "Simian Shelf" and the title track occupy the heavy end of the psychedelic spectrum, haunting the foggy moor between early, bluesy Sabbath-styled doom riffery and heavy pulse-riding kraut-rock.

Flavour Country is the first album recorded by the band themselves at their own Pre-Rock Studios in Saskatoon, SK, located in the middle of the Canadian prairies. The album title's spelling is itself a nod to the band's Great White North homeland. The album was mastered by John McBain (ex-Monster Magnet, Carlton Melton), who also mastered the band's previous RidingEasy releases.

Shooting Guns have toured over 60,000 miles across Canada over the past 7 years but have yet to tour Internationally, which will be a big focus for them after this release. They are touring their live score to F.W. Murnau's Nosferatu across Canada throughout 2017 and also just finished scoring the soundtrack to Another WolfCop (sequel to WolfCop), which is slated for a US theatrical release in September 2017. Their sophomore LP, Brotherhood of the Ram, released in 2013 through RidingEasy Records was nominated for the 2015 JUNO Metal/Hard Album of the Year as well as the Polaris Music Prize. Their debut LP, Born To Deal in Magic: 1952-1976, was also nominated for the Polaris Music Prize in 2012.

NOUS album streaming early: Christopher Bono, Greg Fox (ex-Liturgy), Thor Harris (Swans), ACME strings, Shahzad Ismaily (Yoko Ono)

"A half-airy, half-aggressive interdisciplinary happening organized by the young and enterprising composer Christopher Bono, who brought together a wise, postcategory, electric and acoustic 12-person crew."  -- New York Times

"You couldn't pigeonhole it into one genre if you tried -- it goes from eerie David Lynchian soundscapes to Eastern melodies to avant-garde jazz drum freakouts to a million other places, all while remaining strangely accessible." -- Brooklyn Vegan

New York experimental music project NOUS, led by producer and composer Christopher Bono, is streaming their forthcoming debut album ahead of release starting today via Brooklyn Vegan. Hear and share NOUS I: A Musical Rite HERE. (Direct Bandcamp and Soundcloud.)

NOUS also plays two live shows -- with a different lineup from the album recording -- this weekend in New York State. This trio configuration is comprised of Christopher Bono (Ghost Against Ghost, Bardo) and Kato Hideki (John Zorn, Death Ambient, Green Zone), and Calvin Weston (Ornette Coleman, Vernon Reid, Billy Martin) for a night of multi media experimentation. See dates below.

Nous is an experimental music project with a fluctuating group of artists exploring ritual and spontaneity within music. The debut album features multi-instrumentalists Christopher Bono (keyboards/electronics/percussion/vocals), Greg Fox (drums/percussion/electronics), Thor Harris (drums/percussion), Shahzad Ismaily (electronics/guitar/bass) and Grey Mcmurray (guitar), with special guests.

Woodstock, NY label Our Silent Canvas is preparing to release the first of 3 albums culled from sessions the group recorded in an intensive 7-day immersion at legendary Dreamland Studios with
producer Kevin McMahon (Swans, Titus Andronicus, Real Estate).

Each recording, and performance will center around a different focal concept, always seeking alternative ways of creating art. The name Nous was chosen for its double meaning. 'Nous' in the French language is the plural personal pronoun in the first person, meaning 'we' or 'us'. However, within the philosophical tradition it is a word, sometimes equated to intellect or intelligence, used to describe the faculty of the human mind which is described in classical philosophy as necessary for understanding what is true or real, similar in meaning to intuition.

In the eastern tradition, the sanskrit equivalent is Buddhi, which denotes an aspect of mind that is higher than the rational mind and that is attracted to Brahman (i.e., to "Truth" (sat) or "Reality"(dharma)). Discriminative in nature, Buddhi/Nous is that which is able to discern truth (satya) from
falsehood and thereby able to make wisdom possible. Inspired by this definition, the Nous project looks to build communal musical relationships that collectively work to find new ways of creating art
that bypasses the small, fearful, egotistical mind and encourages the connection of those involved to reach a higher level of consciousness, providing a creative field/space where intuitive, unexpected and unexplained results can occur.

SOM (Junius, Constants, Caspian members) stream debut album in full ahead of release

"SOM craft songs of epic melancholy that stagger the ears as well as the heart." -- Onion AV Club

"Serenely slowdive into shoegaze." -- SPIN

"A big, atmospheric mix of shoegaze, post-rock, space rock, and sludge metal, all led by Will's ethereal vocals which give the music a calming, dreamy vibe that contrasts beautifully with the heavy riffs." -- Brooklyn Vegan

"A very particular brand of chunky, crushing metal that still retains a very hopeful, beautifully shoegaze sound to it." -- Metal Injection

Post-metal shoegaze trio SOM are streaming their forthcoming debut album in full ahead of release today via Brooklyn Vegan. Hear and share The Fall HERE. (Direct Bandcamp.)

SOM premiered visualizer video clips for 4 album tracks, all of which were created by visual artist Josh Graham (Neurosis, Soundgarden.) Metal Injection hosted "Black Out The Sky" HERE. (Direct YouTube.) Brooklyn Vegan shared "Open Wounds" HERE. (Direct YouTube.) Exclaim! premiered "Ten Years" HERE. (Direct YouTube.) And, Heavy Blog Is Heavy launched "Prayers" HERE. (YouTube.)

On their debut record, SOM "craft songs of epic melancholy that stagger the ears as well as the heart" (Onion AV Club) and "serenely slowdive into shoegaze" (SPIN). Drummer Duncan Rich and bassist Justin Forrest build thunderous rhythms that give drive and pulse to the fuzzed out wall-of-synth-and-guitar-noise. Dark and heavy throughout, their music is complemented by memorable hooks and melodies in singer/guitarist Will Benoit's somber, lamenting vocals.

Featuring founding members of seminal Boston space rockers Constants -- and former and touring members of Adai, Junius, Rosetta, and Caspian -- SOM wrote and recorded their debut album at Benoit's solar powered The Radar Studio, along with engineer Daryl Rabidoux (Doomsday Student, Drowningman).

The Fall will be available on CD, cassette and download on November 9th, 2018. Pre-orders are available via Bandcamp HERE

It’s time for your Album of The Year picks is here once again! 2018 has been another incredible year for RidingEasy Records. Below are details and links on everything RidingEasy for 2018 for your consideration for those year-end picks. All bands are available for interviews, downloads are available and if you need anything else, please let us know.

LISTEN TO EVERYTHING AT BANDCAMP or YOUTUBE

SPINY NORMEN Spiny Normen (released 2/23)
Houston band's incredible twisted psych posthumous album finally released 40 years after it was recorded. Spiny Normen was an incredible mid-70's hard rock, progressive, psychedelic rock band whose singles featured in the Brown Acid compilation series inspired RidingEasy to track down any additional recordings. A totally lost relic, the self-titled album was recorded at the local community college and never released, until now.

BLACKWATER HOLYLIGHT Blackwater Holylight (released 4/06)
Portland, OR quartet's breakout debut inspired Paste Magazine to write, "this quartet has been burning up stages all around their hometown, fueled by their abrasive blend of doom metal, psych rock, goth and a tangy soupçon of pop music." Already an Album of the Year contender early in the year, this one is bound to top many lists this year.

VARIOUS ARTISTS  BROWN ACID: THE SIXTH TRIP (released 4/20)
The popular compilation series of long-lost vintage 60s-70s proto-metal and stoner rock singles' sixth edition continues the headbanging tradition. The series is curated by L.A. label RidingEasy Records and retailer/label Permanent Records. The two have assembled a selection of songs that's hard to believe have remained unheard for so long and tapped a goldmine of hard rock brilliance.

THE DEATH WHEELERS I Tread On Your Grave (released 5/11)
Heavily inspired by the aesthetics and ethos of bikesploitation movies such as The Wild AngelsWerewolves on Wheels and Psychomania, The Death Wheelers seek to glorify this unsung era of movie making through their sordid sounds. Taking musical cues from rock's greats such as Davie AllanThe CrampsMotörheadThe Stooges and Grand Funk Railroad, the Death Wheelers perpetrate the tradition of heaviness by making zero compromises when it comes to laying down the groove.

SVVAMP Svvamp 2 (released 6/08)
"Near perfect" (New Noise Magazine) and "arguably the band of the year" (Doom Charts, 2016) the Jönköping, Sweden trio surpassed the highest expectations for their sophomore album, despite the "high tech" leap from 4-track to 6-track recording. Their earnest, homespun and bluesy classic rock sound hearkens to Cream, Grand Funk Railroad, Crazy Horse, et al. Simple, unpretentious fun.

HERE LIES MAN You Will Know Nothing (released 6/15)
What if Black Sabbath played Afrobeat? The musical concept heard round the world on the band's 2017 debut is fully realized on the breakthrough sophomore album by the L.A. based quintet is founded and conceptualized by Marcos Garcia of Antibalas. Press praise from MojoUncutQuietus and countless others continues while the band wows audiences at Primavera Sound, L.A.'s Desert Daze, and nonstop headlining tours in North America and Europe.

MICK'S JAGUAR Fame and Fortune (released 6/22)
"Every song on the record is a fucking anthem," exclaims CvltNation. "An infectious 10-track spinner," hails Doomed & Stoned. The Obelisk called it "clean, classic-feeling" with a "penchant for big hooks." And many others loved the street-fighting sound of the NYC 6-piece's debut. if you missed it, it's time to get yourself some Fame and Fortune

DUNBARROW Dunbarrow II (released 9/14)
Norwegian proto-doom with a back-to-basics sound, Dunbarrow's clean, unadorned "eerie rawness" gives the band's sophomore album a hauntingly classic feel. "I really can't rave enough about how great this album is," says Doomed & Stoned. "Photo-doom at its best," says More Fuzz. "Quite simply one of the best true 70s sounding doom bands out there," says Doom Charts

ELECTRIC CITIZEN Helltown (released 9/28)
"A back-to-basics return to their raunchier roots," says Dangerous MindsNoisey says the band's "greasy pop hooks come buried under layers of swaggering stoner licks, hot rock leads, and vocalist Laura Dolan's sinewy yowl, keeping things good and dirty even as they let a little sparkle peek out." The third album is in many ways a homecoming, and a honing of their concise heavy rock sound that continues to electrify all who come into contact.

SATAN'S SATYRS The Lucky Ones (released 10/19)
Co-released with UK label Bad OmenThe Lucky Ones is produced by Windhand guitarist Garrett Morris and showcases the band's pioneering of a punky, glam-infused form of doom and roll aligning great hooks with heavy thunder. Revolver Magazine says, "the core of the band's approach -- Blue CheerSabbathDeep Purple -- remain soundly in place, just imagine applying those groups' swaggering fuzz-rock riffs to the soundtrack of a Russ Meyer film."

ALASTOR Slave To The Grave (released 10/31)
The breakout Occultist Swedish band's RidingEasy debut full length garnered so much advance buzz before its Halloween release, you'd think it was the Boogeyman. Brooklyn Vegan says that they, "really nail l that satisfying middle ground between super heavy, super catchy, and super psychedelic." Metal Injection says Alastor "are all about the classic, darker aspects of the genre, and they nail that sound and mystique well." It immediately debuted on Doom Charts Top 10.

VARIOUS ARTISTS BROWN ACID: THE SEVENTH TRIP (released 10/31)
The popular compilation series featuring long-lost 60s-70s proto-metal and stoner rock singles' seventh edition ups the ante evermore. The series curated by L.A. label RidingEasy Records and retailer/label Permanent Records recently received the pinnacle of endorsements: Lenny Kaye, creator of the legendary Nuggets compilation series (and guitarist in Patti Smith Band & Creem Magazine scribe), picked up his own copies of the previous editions, seen here via Instagram.
