PLAX (OBN IIIs, Nosferatu, Skeleton, Glaassss, Spray Paint members) premiere "What a Waste" via Austin Chronicle

"Features some of the most aesthetically pleasing and deliberate lo-fi production, evoking the urgency of proto-punk bands like The Pagans, Rocket From the Tombs, The Mad, et al, but with a 21st Century frame of mind." -- New Noise Magazine

"Melodic, abrasive, dark, intense and weird all at once, recalling the likes of post-punk icons like Wire or more contemporary groups like Protomartyr." -- Treble

"A revolutionary mixture of post-punk, basement hardcore, and outsider rock." -- Austin Chronicle

Austin, TX punk quartet PLAX shares a new track from their forthcoming debut today alongside an insightful interview with Austin Chronicle. Find out about the local supergroup's origins (and surprising roots rock connection) and hear new single "What a Waste" HERE. (Direct Soundcloud.)

Treble recently shared "Night Watch" HERE. (Soundcloud.) New Noise Magazine recently shared first single "Boring Story" HERE. (Direct Soundcloud.)

PLAX is Victor (Skeleton, Nosferatu), Marley (OBN IIIs, Sweet Talk), Chris (Spray Paint, Dikes of Holland, When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth) and Michael (OBN IIIs, eetsFEATS). Recorded by Ian Rundell in Austin, TX.

In the summer of 2016 Michael Goodwin approached his longtime friend Chris "Anton" Stevenson and current band-mate in OBN III's Marley Jones. The subject: starting a new outsider punk band that defies all conventional expectations. The three quickly wrote 9 songs for a demo, but were still in need of a vocalist. At the time, Marley was playing drums in the ever-evolving Skeleton, formed and fronted by the Ziolkowski brothers, David and Victor. Michael and Anton approached Victor and solidified the PLAX lineup with Victor on vocals. Their first show was July 28th, 2016 at Ikee's house with New Orleans Total Punk ragers, PATSY. From here they went on to play with top tier Texas bands CROOKED BANGS, INSTITUTE and ARMY. Their sound; an evolving whirlwind of WIRE influenced post-punk to the straight pogo-punk of DAWN OF HUMANS. They toured Texas in January of 2017 and in March of 2017 Anton relocated to Melbourne and now, being a global sensation, PLAX continues to write and record songs with their original four.

Tera Melos share new song via NPR, announce album and tour w/ Speedy Ortiz supporting

Tera Melos announce their forthcoming third album today and share the first track via NPR. Hear and share "Don't Say I Know" HERE. (Direct YouTube HERE.)

Tera Melos also announce an extensive North American headlining tour with Speedy Ortiz supporting. Please see current dates below.

Trash Generator, the trio's third full length, is an astonishing blast of confidence and rejuvenation. It sounds as if the 4-year downtime since their last album has recharged the band with an entirely new sense of purpose. The performances are brilliant and sharp, the songs concise yet intricately detailed, and the album production deftly captures the band's strength as a live unit. Their dalliances with mellower psychedelic phrases on their previous two albums, X'ed Out (2013) and Patagonian Rats (2010) are significantly trimmed and instead utilized as colorations within a swirling maelstrom of righteous aggro punk-jazz abandon. As such, it sounds like Tera Melos has fully metabolized their pop tendencies and found a way they can coexist with the band's iconoclast origins. Tera Melos -- guitarist/vocalist Nick Reinhart, bassist Nathan Latona and drummer John Clardy -- have learned to stop worrying and just be Tera Melos.

Perhaps to understand Trash Generator, we must look at the situations leading up to it...

"We toured consistently for 19 months after X'ed Out was released in 2013," Latona explains. "We did two full US headliners, four full US support tours, a Japanese tour, a month in Europe, and a run of shows in the UK and Ireland. When we finished, we were pretty exhausted and frustrated." It had seemed that after all of that work, not much had changed for the band. Tera Melos took a short holiday break, which eventually turned into two years as each of them pursued other interests. "I found myself at ease with the idea of not worrying about ticket sales, strategic tours, units moved, likes, clicks, views, and the short-fused moodiness of living in a van with two other people," Latona says. In that downtime, Reinhart remained active in multiple endeavors: contributing guitar to Death Grips' The Powers That B and Bottomless Pit albums + the I.L.Y.'s (Zach Hill and Andy Morin's other band), Big Walnuts Yonder (with Mike Watt, Nels Cline and Greg Saunier), Goblin Cock, Portugal.the man and many others. Latona completed a college degree he'd put off for 11 years. Clardy became and integral faculty member at the School of Rock in Dallas/Ft. Worth, inspiring young musicians with his real-world approach to learning music.

For every touring band there's a subtle pressure -- from fans, industry, promoters, family -- that the band is supposed to be on a constantly rising trajectory of success. Regardless of the group's own potentially esoteric goals, if you're not reaching for the "next level" at every turn, you're supposedly not doing it right. Tera Melos thought long and hard about it, and said, "fuck it."

"Wth this record it was 100% let's not concern ourselves with what we should be doing at this point in the band's lifespan, and just fully focus on what makes us happy," Reinhart says. "Making a new record seemed like a fun act of defiance," Latona adds. "The odds are against bands like us, but despite all the negativity involved in trying to struggle and survive as an artist, we made Trash Generator because we just wanted to get together, have some fun, and make something that we think is cool."

The trio decamped to San Diego in late 2016 to record at Singing Serpent Studios with Ben Moore (Hot Snakes, Pinback). It was their first time recording in a continuous block of time, rather than the piecemeal stealth late night sessions at friends' studios of previous efforts. It gave the band a razor-sharp focus atop of their beholden-to-none attitude. "We stayed in a spare place at Rob Crow's house which had a barracks kind of feel to it," Clardy explains. "We'd come home exhausted each day and fall asleep within an hour. It was very spartan when away from the studio." That mindset clearly informs the direct, in-your-face energy of Trash Generator

Album opener "System Preferences" starts things off with a simmering energy built upon a short 3-note bass loop and Reinhart's trademark whispersational Syd Barrett-esque vocals setting the stage for Gang Of Four style chopping guitar lines and rollicking toms. "Dyer Ln" pits a twangy guitar and a slice-n-dice rhythm section against each other with subtle sleight of hand (and foot) between Clardy and Latona. Elsewhere, "Don't Say I Know" showcases the band's brilliant synthesis of pop hooks with lightning fast shifts of rhythm, style, tone and mood - often within the same measure. The title track centers around syncopated, angular arpeggiated guitar notes building into an explosive chorus with the catchy, odd chorus refrain, "trash generator/ I'm not a bad guy." Reinhart has gained considerable notoriety in the musician's gear world in recent years from his contributions to Juan Alderete's "Pedals and Effects" blog/YouTube channel and their viral "100 Pedals" video. HIs knowledge of and skill with employing countless guitar pedals to accentuate his playing is tastefully on full display throughout the album. Latona and Clardy, not to be outdone, shine like never before as the band effortlessly slips back into their own unique and jaw-dropping musical vocabulary.

Trash Generator will be available everywhere August 25th, 2017 on LP, CD, click, like and download via Sargent House. Pre-orders for LP/CD via HelloMerch and download via iTunes.

R.I.P. shares first track from forthcoming album 'Street Reaper', Portland's street doom band returns Friday, Oct. 13th

Portland, OR 'Street Doom' quartet R.I.P. shares the first single from their forthcoming sophomore album Street Reaper today. Hear and share "The Other Side" via Bandcamp and YouTube. Metal Injection features the song HERE.

When R.I.P. came crawling out of the sewers of Portland, OR last year, their grimy, sleazy Street Doom was already a fully formed monstrosity that quickly infected the minds of everyone it encountered. Now, borne from the band's declining state of mental health and increasing focus on songwriting, Street Reaper is an even more unhinged and menacing album than their 2016 debut In The Wind

Borrowing equally from 80s Rick Rubin productions and Murder Dog magazine aesthetics, Street Reaper is a streamlined, yet brutally raw manifesto of heavy metal ferocity hearkening to the era when both metal and hip hop were reviled as the work of street thugs intent on destroying America's youth.

Throughout, Angel Martinez's guitar and John Mullett's bass are inextricably interlocked, sounding like a massive sonic steamroller, while drummer Willie D keeps the beat solid and simple for the most powerful impact. And, the band's extensive touring and excessive virgin sacrifices have clearly endued singer Fuzz with evermore agile vocal chords to drive it all home with extreme precision.

Operating on the belief that doom is not tied to a tuning or a time signature, but rather a raw and terrified feeling, R.I.P. eschews well trodden fantasy and mysticism tropes of the genre and focuses on conveying the horror and chaos inherent in the everyday reality of the human mind. With several years of touring under their heavily studded belt, R.I.P. has distinguished themselves from the interchangeable hordes of bands trying to play heavy metal by crafting an aesthetic and a sound all their own, focusing on the things that make metal heavy rather than adhering to the formulaic confines of a particular sub-genre.

Street Reaper opens with the knockout punch of "Unmarked Grave" and the rest is just sheer bludgeoning for bludgeoning's sake as the album echoes the grimy vibe of legends like Saint Vitus, Pentagram and Motorhead, with the no b.s. aesthetic of the early Metal Massacre compilations.

Street Reaper will be available on LP, CD and download on October 13th, 2017 via RidingEasy Records

Shooting Guns (Netflix hit 'WolfCop' soundtrack, Juno Prize nominees) share title track from forthcoming album 'Flavour Country'

"The instrumental psych-rock band knows how to choogle, burn and rip like Hawkwind thrown into the middle of a Mad Max set. That's why director Lowell Dean tapped Shooting Guns to score Wolfcop, a 2014 horror-comedy that's exactly as ridiculous/awesome as you think it is." -- NPR

Canada's award-nominated psych 6-piece Shooting Guns premiere the title track from their forthcoming third album Flavour Country today via The Obelisk. Hear and share "Flavour Country" HERE. (Bandcamp

Exclaim! recently launched the blistering track "French Safe" HERE.

Shooting Guns is known (and oft-nominated) for their film soundtrack work, but Flavour Country is more like a collection of anthems for your jettison from this universe into the multiverse.

While they're known for heavy and saturated sounds befitting crazed horror-comedy flicks like Netflix hit WolfCop, Flavour Country features some of the band's fastest, heaviest and most visceral material to date. Yet, it also features some of the band's most atmospheric sounds as well.

At times there are slight hints of Ennio Morricone's Spaghetti Western twang amidst the looping Meddle-era Pink Floyd heavy psych and driving drone reminiscent of Bobby Beausoleil's belladonna laced soundtrack to Kenneth Anger's Lucifer Rising. But for the most part here, Shooting Guns is out for blood, regardless of tempo.

Album opener "Ride Free" kicks off with a blistering wall of guitars blaring and rattling out of the gate like mutant progeny to fellow Canadian biker-rock heroes Steppenwolf having duly fired all of the guns, exploded into space and returned to hunt down every last one of us. It accelerates from there: "French Safe" sounds like an unhinged battalion of musicians driving full throttle like a scene from a George Miller Road Warrior movie. Biting, lengthier tracks like "Simian Shelf" and the title track occupy the heavy end of the psychedelic spectrum, haunting the foggy moor between early, bluesy Sabbath-styled doom riffery and heavy pulse-riding kraut-rock.

Flavour Country is the first album recorded by the band themselves at their own Pre-Rock Studios in Saskatoon, SK, located in the middle of the Canadian prairies. The album title's spelling is itself a nod to the band's Great White North homeland. The album was mastered by John McBain (ex-Monster Magnet, Carlton Melton), who also mastered the band's previous RidingEasy releases.

Shooting Guns have toured over 60,000 miles across Canada over the past 7 years but have yet to tour Internationally, which will be a big focus for them after this release. They are touring their live score to F.W. Murnau's Nosferatu across Canada throughout 2017 and also just finished scoring the soundtrack to Another WolfCop (sequel to WolfCop), which is slated for a US theatrical release in September 2017. Their sophomore LP, Brotherhood of the Ram, released in 2013 through RidingEasy Records was nominated for the 2015 JUNO Metal/Hard Album of the Year as well as the Polaris Music Prize. Their debut LP, Born To Deal in Magic: 1952-1976, was also nominated for the Polaris Music Prize in 2012.

Suspirians (Roky Erickson band, ST37) share video from new album, launch tour next week

"Feedback-drenched, brain-melting rock that straddles the line between the Stooges' impatient punk and Roky Erickson's heady jams." -- Clrvynt

"A roaring expedition of spellbinding psych punk." -- Austin Chronicle

Austin trio Suspirians share the first video from their sophomore album today via Northern Transmissions. Watch and share the clip for "Nocturne" HERE. (Direct YouTube.)

Suspirians hit the road next week for a midwest tour that includes a performance at Voice of the Valley Festival in West Virginia. See complete dates below.

Echoes & Dust recently shared Ti Bon Ange in full HERE. (Direct Soundcloud.) She Shreds Magazine hosted "Fortune Spider" in an in-depth interview with vocalist/guitarist Marisa Pool HEREAustin Chronicle launched the album's epic centerpiece "Black Holes", also with an interview HERETiny Mix Tapes shared the entrancing "Moonwave" HERE. And, Clrvynt previously hosted "Nocturne" HERE.

The album title, Ti Bon Ange is taken from a Haitian voodoo term that translates literally to "little good angel" - the part of one's soul that holds one's individuality and personal qualities, which leaves the body when sleeping so you can dream. It's a title quite befitting of the experience listening to Ti Bon Ange, where listeners become immersed in a sound, not just casually attending to it.

From the first notes of the album, throughout its 7-song, 40 minute duration it's clear that Suspirians aim to deconstruct rock in a way that's both psychedelic and mysterious as much as it's direct, infectious and powerful. Guitarist/vocalist Marissa Pool, bassist/keyboardist Stephanie Demopulos and drummer Lisa Cameron craft songs that shape-shift from part to part rather than follow traditional verse-chorus-verse structure. It's a wall of guitars and subtle synth layers, vocals drenched in reverb and on the brink of feedback, powerful and open drumming that allows the songs to flow like molten lava without ever sounding lethargic. Points of reference bridge a wide array of psychedelic, punk and experimental sounds: Pylon, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Sonic Youth, The Stooges first album, Frightwig, early Butthole Surfers, Roky Erickson & The Aliens, late 70s British post-punk and more.

"We would end up getting lost in the songs together in a sort of epic fever dream," Pool says. "We did not overthink or over control anything on this record. It was all about going with the flow and following our instincts." Suspirians' self-titled debut album - with original drummer Anna Lamphear - was comparatively a more straightforward and garagey affair. Pool and Demopulos began experimenting with their sound soon after and with the addition of Cameron, they collectively found the aesthetic they were after. Cameron's extensive musical history - having played with the legendary Roky Erickson, as well as celebrated Austin psych band ST37 and other improv/noise projects - helped the band expand its vision.

Ti Bon Ange is available on LP, CD and download as of June 9th via Super Secret Records

Monolord shares title track from forthcoming album 'Rust', Swedish doom trio's anticipated return

"Universally beloved... Swedish doom royalty." -- Noisey

"A truly modern sound: recognizably doom, but with glistening production values and adventurous songcraft." -- Consequence of Sound

Gothenburg, Sweden trio Monolord share the title track and details on their highly anticipated third album Rust today. The song features John Gamino (Mondo Drag) on keyboards and Trevor Church (Beastmaker) playing a guitar solo at the end of the tune. Hear and share "Rust" via YouTube and Bandcamp

Monolord is a rare breed: A band both encompassing and transcending genre; a vortex of heavy rock density that consumes all others. Their thunderous, tuneful heft has built a rabid international fanbase in short order since their 2014 debut. But Rust, the band’s third full length, truly exemplifies why some refer to them as the Nirvana of doom.

Monolord’s enveloping, syrupy sludge is a vibe, it’s a state of mind. Not riffs for riffs sake, but a collective buzzing, rattling and rumbling that’s more total environment than collection of songs. Together, guitarist/vocalist Thomas Jäger, drummer Esben Willems and bassist Mika Häkki create a massive, dynamic sound with ultra-low frequencies serving as its fourth member.

“We've always been inspired by great band musicians - as opposed to technical solo peacocks,” Willems says. “Because that force of a band really playing together as one single unit is incomparable. At its best, it's just unstoppable.” And, Monolord is truly unstoppable, on record and on stage. “A heavy groove that contains both bombastic overkill and a lot of dynamics is what we always aim for in Monolord; in playing, in song writing and arranging, in recording,” Willems says.

Album opener “Where Death Meets the Sea” perfectly exemplifies their mastery of dynamics and hooks with a driving, infectious buzzsaw riff that lesser bands would ride off into the sunset, but Monolord uses subtly to spur the song’s skull rattling rhythmic core ever onward. Jäger’s watery vocals glide over ominously building verses that erupt with the song’s insistent refrain. Being such a tight rhythmic unit, it sounds almost like an early ZZ Top record played at half speed. “Dear Lucifer” squeals and hums with slow deliberation as Willems summons Dale Crover pummel with chasm like low-tuned toms and syncopated cymbal crashes. The album’s title track is also its centerpiece, opening with a dramatic, shimmering Hammond organ intro as Jäger sings, “you are the reason that I lied/ You are the reason that I cried/ Please don’t wait until tomorrow/ There’s only pain, hate, grief and sorrow.” Suddenly, the band kicks in with a bellowing line downtuned to B that nosedives down the guitar neck as the drums hammer down for the kill. Elsewhere, tastefully understated guitar harmonies elevate the behemoth churn of “Wormland” and apocalyptic album closer “At Niceae” simmers in a slow build of rumbling guitars and rolling drum triplets.

Monolord formed in 2013, quickly recording their 2xLP debut Empress Rising, which RidingEasy Records released in April 1st, 2014. The second album, Vænir, followed April 28th, 2015. The 2-song Lord of Suffering / Die in Haze EP was issued in late 2016 amid the band’s relentless touring schedule in order to tide fans over until the next full length. Vænir landed on countless Album of the Year lists in 2015, and Rust is poised to open an entirely new range of possibilities for Monolord.

Rust will be available on LP, CD and download on September 29th, 2017 via RidingEasy Records. Pre-orders are available at RidingEasy and Bandcamp
