"Anthemic, riff-heavy" Greek rockers BUS streaming forthcoming RidingEasy Records debut album early via Metal Injection

"A fantastic combination of crazy fun rock that also happens to be stupid catchy." -- Metal Injection

"BUS is pure rock'n'roll through and through, conjuring up influences that range from Judas Priest to Deep Purple to Sabbath to prog in a way that is decidedly old school and familiar, but never straight-up derivative." -- Revolver Magazine

"The what-if-the-Beatles-were-also-Primus-but-Primus-were-the-Melvins-and-also-Kyuss-is-there-because-that's-fun bounce of "I Buried Paul."...(BUS) confidently deliver hooks that are non-overbearing earworms -- the kinds of songs you don't realize are in your head until they already are." -- The Obelisk

Athens, Greece quartet Bus The Unknown Secretary (aka BUS) are streaming their forthcoming album on RidingEasy Records ahead of release today via Metal Injection. Hear and share Never Decide album HERE. (Direct YouTube and Bandcamp.)

Revolver Magazine recently shared "Into The Night" HERE. And, The Obelisk previously launched "I Buried Paul" HERE

From the opening notes of Never Decide, you'll know it's going to be a wild funhouse ride. It doesn't sound like just four people, it sounds like a mob of wild-eyed lunatics on the expressway to your skull. And, you're not gonna know what the band's name means, don't worry about it.

Heavy bands typically don't know how to make music fun. We're not talking about goofy, novelty rock, which BUS certainly is not. We're talking clever, spirited and anthemic rock that doesn't get bogged down in trying to sound menacing. Never Decide is a multifaceted album in the vein of classic hitters like The Hellacopters, Alice Cooper Band, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and Orange Goblin

"The story of the album expresses the psyche of a person in a dead end and his life is introduced into obsessive rhythms, more personal and random," explains vocalist/guitarist Bill Politis. "There is no happy end here, but the questions remain: Door A or Door B? Time to change or time to die, Never Decide!"

The album opens as if we're in the studio with the band listening to playback for the first time. There's a chirping test tone and someone starts counting in, "one, two, three..." before it suddenly grinds to a halt. Then suddenly the swirling guitar riff of the pummeling anthem "You Better Come In, You Better Calm Down" launches everything into the stratosphere. The guitars march in lockstep as swinging drums keep it all rolling at furious pace as the vocal chant of the song's title grows into a massive group chant in harmony. Think Uriah Heep's "Easy Livin'" meets Kiss' "Rock and Roll All Night" -- here's another big, blazing anthem for the ages. "I Buried Paul" is the sort of fun, theatrical album track no one makes anymore, not since the days of the Alice Cooper Band. "Lucifer" takes things several shades darker, turning in a dramatic ballad launched by haunting piano chords and led by sinister, sneering vocals sounding something like Ozzy meets Johnny Rotten slowly building to its epic conclusion in double time with rinigng harmony guitar leads. "Evil Eyes" and "Moonchild" return the proceedings to the anthemic, pop-laced vibe, replete with major-minor chord shifts and vocal/guitar harmonies galore.

Never Decide was recorded in just 5 days in February 2018 with multitalented engineer and band's beloved friend John Vulgaris at Electric Highway Studios in Athens, Greece. The entire band -- drummer Aris Fasoulis, bassist Spiros Papadatos, and guitarists Fotis Kolokithas and Politis --recorded the instrumental tracks live in 3 days, reserving the last 2 for vocals. Over the 2 months that followed Vulgaris and the band fine-tuned the mix into the subtle and clever masterwork you have before you.

BUS formed in Athens in 2011, releasing two EPs and a full length The Impious Tapes, followed by The Cross EP (2014), and The Unknown Secretary LP in 2016. During that time the band has toured extensively throughout Greece and in neighboring nations. The release of Never Decide will see them expanding that touring radius considerably.

Never Decide will be available on LP, CD and download on March 1st, 2019 via RidingEasy Records. Pre-orders are available HERE

Little Mazarn (Thor & Friends, Bill Callahan, Okkervill River collabs) share Springsteen cover from upcoming album via Brooklyn Vegan

"Verrill's music, for all its simplicity, makes the heart move, and if you're in the mood to yearn, she's got you covered." -- Tiny Mix Tapes

"A loving nod to the purity of true Americana music and is unimpeded by gimmicks or irony." -- PopMatters

"Little Mazarn take the Springsteen synthpop classic and turn it into something that sounds more like it’d fit on Nebraska. It’s quiet and raw and atmospheric and recalls anything from the psychedelic folk of the late ’60s and early ’70s to the freak folk movement of the mid 2000s to current-day folk like Jessica Pratt and Julie Byrne." -- Brooklyn Vegan

Austin duo Little Mazarn announce their forthcoming sophomore album IO today, sharing the first single via Brooklyn Vegan. Hear and share the sweetly infectious electric banjo and singing saw reinterpretation of the Bruce Springsteen classic "Dancing In The Dark" HERE. (Direct Bandcamp.)

Little Mazarn, after a year of touring & songwriting, returns with their second album, IO. The album finds them expanding their musical palette & filling out their sound while maintaining their deceptively simple approach. Ever the consummate collaborators, Little Mazarn's latest includes guest vocals by Will Johnson (Centro-matic; South San Gabriel) & Kendra Kinsey, vibraphone & drums by Thor Harris (Thor & Friends; Swans; Shearwater) and fiddle & kalimba by Ralph White (Bad Livers). Five exquisite originals and two covers: Springsteen's "Dancing in the Dark" and Country Willie Edwards' "Marfa Lights."

Little Mazarn is an electric banjo and singing saw duo from Austin, TX. Inspired by the 1960's primitive folk revival and early 'high lonesome' Appalachian sound, as well as modern minimalism and ambient music, they combine imaginative songwriting with dreamy and innovative use of traditional instruments and textures. Since 2016 they've been performing live in rock clubs, folk listening rooms and unconventional spaces such as dry riverbeds, abandoned buildings, galleries, theaters, and churches in the United States and Canada. In 2017, Little Mazarn joined Project ATX6 which brought them to a wider audience of sister cities in Germany, France, Canada, and Japan as well as showcasing at SXSW 2018.

Their first record, a collection of original songs and reinterpreted traditional ballads, was released in December 2017. In May 2019 they will be releasing their second album titled 'Io' recorded in August 2018 at Ramble Creek Studios.

Lindsey Verrill and Jeff Johnston are known individually for their work with Ethan Azarian/Orange Mothers, Bill Callahan, Dana Falconberry, Li'l Cap'n Travis, McMercy Family Band, Ramsay Midwood, Moonsicles, Okkervil River, some Say Leland, Thor and Friends, Adam Torres, Twain, the Weird Weeds, and many others.

IO will be available on LP, CD and download on May 3rd, 2019 via Self Sabotage Records, a division of Super Secret Records. Pre-orders are available HERE

'Brown Acid' series of rare 60s-70s pre-metal singles drops track by Luke & The Apostles from the Eighth Trip

"So rare that diehard fuzz junkies say you'd have a better chance of winning the lottery than finding a physical 45 rpm single by one of the bands featured on their latest installment." -- Dangerous Minds

"Will do for hard rock, proto-metal and heavy psych what Nuggets did for garage rock, and bring it to a wider audience of collectors and music fans." -- The Guardian

The forthcoming eighth edition of the popular compilation series featuring long-lost vintage 60s-70s proto-metal and stoner rock singles, Brown Acid: The Eighth Trip is set for release, fittingly, on April 20th, 2019. Hear and share a new track, "Not Far Off" by Luke & The Apostles shared by Ultimate Classic Rock HERE. (Direct YouTube HERE.)

The lead single "School Daze" by Attack was previously premiered via YouTube HERE.

The Brown Acid series is curated by L.A. label RidingEasy Records and retailer/label Permanent Records.

About Brown Acid: The Eighth Trip:

This Trip comes straight at ya with an all out attack, quite literally. The residents of St. Clair Shores should consider themselves lucky to have been so close to the greatness of Attack!  “School Daze” kicks out the jams Detroit-style, but has enough flair and style to have our main man Jimi rolling over in his grave. Another prime example of why Detroit is known as Rock City!

Speaking of rock, White Rock will knock your stank-ass socks off with their 1972 burner “Please Don’t Run Away”. This 45 was privately released by this Houston-based band that reportedly played shows with Josefus, Stone Axe, and Purple Sun. And it was basically unknown until it surfaced at the Austin Record Convention in 2018!  The fact that there are still completely unknown records out there to be discovered never ceases to amaze us.

They don’t say “Don’t Mess With Texas” for nothin’! Riverside called Austin home way before anyone was worried about keeping it weird. This two-sider from 1974 rips from front to back. It’s also exclusively available here and is virtually unknown. Go ahead, try to look for it anywhere. Currently, there’s no proof anywhere online that it exists.

From our neighbor up north, we bring you Luke and the Apostles! Don’t be fooled by the name, this ain’t no Xian group, even though this 45 is of biblical proportions. The flip of this single “You Make Me High” is a Faces-esque ballad of the highest caliber that will move you to tears if you’re not careful with it, but “Not Far Off” isn’t about moving you emotionally; it’s about moving you physically. Fuck jam? We think so. The Doors and Elektra Records’ producer Paul Rothchild called the Luke and the Apostles LP the “greatest album [he] never got to make”.

The lyrics to this 1977 single on Vacation Records are about as boneheaded as it gets. Hard rock songs from working class men about working hard and letting loose is a common theme in the Brown Acid realm, and “I Need My Music” by Mine Hill, New Jersey’s Tourists, is yet another great one to get you through the work week.  I think we can all agree: we need our music too...among other things!

Ohio strikes again. This time a bit later than the other Buckeye State singles we’ve comped, but no less bangin’! On the Chance record label, the Bartos Brothers Band is billed as Gambler, but post-release, the band covered at least some of the copies with stickers that corrected this.  There’s very little information about the Bartos Brothers Band online, and as of this writing, the release date is incorrect on Discogs and the Popsike hit very wrongly lists the genre as “Glam/Hair Metal” from the 1980s. We’re stoked to be compiling this single for the first time ever and to be setting the record straight.

And yet again, Ohio brings the thunder! We brought you the B-side of Inside Experience’s sole 45 back on the Third Trip and now we exhaust the band’s output by presenting their especially psychedelic cover of Cream's "Tales of Brave Ulysses”. The band pressed and sold out of 500 copies of this record back in 1968 thanks to some airplay on Detroit’s CKLW, but they never recorded again. However, Inside Experience’s lead guitarist and singer, Marty Soski, went on to play in Lance (as heard on the Fifth Trip) and two metal bands which you will be hearing sooner than later...

Karma, slightly better known as The Contents Are, released an LP and a 45 in 1967 and then followed up with their swan song “New Mexico” in 1969. The single was oddly released under Karma on the Onk Enterprizez label with “N.S.U.” as the B-side and on Rok Records as the flip to “Future Days” as The Contents Are. Apparently, Mercury Records bought the rights to the Rok 45 with the intention to release it nationally, but never actually got around to it. Their loss!

Obviously we don’t need to go into how much great music Memphis, Tennessee has brought us over the years, but Moloch doesn’t usually get mentioned when we’re talking about the “Home of the Blues” and the “Birthplace of Rock and Roll.” Maybe we should change that. Moloch played with The MC5 and The Stooges and recorded an LP in 1969 for the Stax subsidiary, Enterprise Records. Although the band made a great blues rock record, it sadly didn’t get the love it deserved and the band folded. Moloch guitarist, Lee Baker, reformed the band with a slightly different line-up and released this 45 in 1972 against great odds. It too was unfairly overlooked...until now.

While we’re still talking about Memphis, y’all ever heard of this guy, Elvis Presley? Apparently, he was kind of a big deal and popularized a song called “Heartbreak Hotel” back in 1956. That’s cool and all, but damn us if we don’t dig Grump’s 1969 take on the song a whole hell of a lot more than the King’s version. Maybe that’s sacrilege, but nothing’s sacred when it comes to Brown Acid.

About the Brown Acid series:

Some of the best thrills of the Internet music revolution is the ability to find extremely rare music with great ease. But even with such vast archives to draw from, quite a lot of great songs have gone undiscovered for nearly half a century -- particularly in genres that lacked hifalutin arty pretense. Previously, only the most extremely dedicated and passionate record collectors had the stamina and prowess to hunt down long forgotten wonders in dusty record bins -- often hoarding them in private collections, or selling at ridiculous collector's prices. Legendary compilations like NuggetsPebbles, ad nauseum, have exhausted the mines of early garage rock and proto-punk, keeping alive a large cross-section of underground ephemera. However, few have delved into and expertly archived the wealth of proto-metal, pre-stoner rock tracks collected on
Brown Acid

Lance Barresi, co-owner of L.A./Chicago retailer Permanent Records has shown incredible persistence in tracking down a stellar collection of rare singles from the 60s and 70s for the growing compilation series. Partnered with Daniel Hall of RidingEasy Records, the two have assembled a selection of songs that's hard to believe have remained unheard for so long.

"I essentially go through hell and high water just to find these records," Barresi says. "Once I find a record worthy of tracking, I begin the (sometimes) extremely arduous process of contacting the band members and encouraging them to take part. Daniel and I agree that licensing all the tracks we're using for
Brown Acid is best for everyone involved," rather than simply bootlegging the tracks. When all of the bands and labels haven't existed for 30-40 years or more, tracking down the creators gives all of these tunes a real second chance at success.

"There's a long list of songs that we'd love to include," Barresi says. "But we just can't track the bands down. I like the idea that Brown Acid is getting so much attention, so people might reach out to us."

Valentine's darkness: Quin Galavis streaming album Victim/Non-Victim early, Austin songwriter's 1st of 3-album series for 2019

"A record marked by ache and vulnerability, heartbreak and regret. The music is sometimes dreamy, sometimes noisy and shoegazey, and often veers into the realm of power pop, but coming from an artist in search of healing. It’s fun to listen to, yet deeply affecting." -- TrebleZine

"Jam of the Week: Are you ready for an urgent jam that will get all up in your brain and will live rent free?" -- CvltNation

"An emotionally-charged vocal over a musical setting that recalls Guided By Voices at its most exhilarating... Galavis takes us on an emotional and musical journey that doesn't provide easy answers or easy ways out." -- PopMatters

Austin, TX songwriter Quin Galavis is streaming in its entirety his forthcoming album Victim / Non-Victim, Pt. 1 today via TrebleZine. Hear and share Victim / Non-Victim, Pt. 1 HERE. (Direct Soundcloud.)

PopMatters recently shared the heart wrenching "Our Loved Ones" HERE. And, Galavis shared an eerie POV video for the lead single "Burn The Room" via CvltNation. Watch & share HERE. (Direct YouTube.)

Quin Galavis returns February 15th with another brilliant album of emotionally raw and revealing music that deftly leaps between heavy experimentalism and catchy melodies. Victim / Non-Victim, Pt. 1 launches a 3-album series to be released throughout 2019 on Super Secret Records

"This record I wrote after an intense period in my life," Quin explains. "I decided to approach this record as a way to confront all the things that created the feelings and characters in my double album My Life In Steel And Concrete and in the process confront all the things that has driven me to art and self destruction, so where MLISAC was expressing a sense of uncertainty and resignation, this record is truly a way to find out why I am the way I am and what abuses I have been through and the abuse I deliver on others. So, I am going to have to spread it out in three records! These records aren't just going to be a cathartic thing like MLISAC, but more as a purge of my old life and finally a reset."

The album includes many wonderful eclectic players on the songs; Graham Low (A Giant Dog), Victor Gutierrez (Impalers,Vaaska), Natalie Ribbons (TeleNovella, Agent Ribbons), Jason Chronis (Voxtrot, TeleNovella), Jenny Arthur (Lung Letters, The Dead Space) and many more.

Quin Galavis has built a strong reputation for producing a variety of high quality music via acclaimed
bands including Nazi Gold and The Dead Space, and through his previous solo work. Unpredictable and experimental from record to record and from live performance to live performance, Quin Galavis continues to challenge himself and his audience to reconsider and subvert what it means to be an artist and musician.

Victim / Non-Victim, Pt. 1 will be available on LP, CD and download on February 15th, 2019 via Super Secret Records.

Woolly Bushmen share first track from upcoming album via PopMatters, blazing garage soul R&B trio announces 3rd album 'In Shambles'

"Kicks like a mule, grooves like vintage shambolic garage rock and kills with the in-your-face attitude of Jerry Lee Lewis. Ultimately, this trio takes listeners on a wild and thrilling ride, during which band and fan alike stand at the precipice of order and chaos, the very intersection that defines rock 'n' roll." -- PopMatters

Garage rock trio The Woolly Bushmen share the lead track from their forthcoming 3rd album today via PopMatters. Hear and share "What Yer Doin' To Me" HERE. (Direct Soundcloud and YouTube.)

Formed in early 2011 and based out of Winter Park, Florida, The Woolly Bushmen have managed to combine 1960's rock and roll with 1950's rockabilly and a dash of soul, forming their own unique genre of all original crowd-rocking songs. These young musicians have captured the respect and admiration of seasoned musicians, some icons in their own right, that are twice their age while grabbing every audience by the scruff of their necks and whipping them into a dance frenzy. Teenagers, middle-agers, old-agers, male, female, black, white, green, purple, The Woolly Bushmen tend to appeal to everyone without compromising their style and musical integrity...mass appeal without losing cult appeal...they do their thing and it works! Audience comments run from, "where did this band come from!?", "how did we not know about them before!?", "These guys have IT!", and very often, "the best band I've seen!"

A typical Woolly Bushmen show will see lead singer, Simon Palombi, switch from vintage Farfisa organ to guitar, whilst, Jacob Miller, switches from bass to guitar allowing the band to play two different sets in one, much to the surprise and delight of the audience! The songs of The Woolly Bushmen are based around catchy organ and guitar riffs with infectious choruses that sound straight out of the charts of the late 1950's and 1960's. These all original songs give you, the listener/audience, the sense that you've heard them before...only, you haven't unless you've seen The Woolly Bushmen or listened to Tampa, Orlando, St. Louis, and Philadelphia college/independent radio. The sole purpose of The Woolly Bushmen's music is to get people dancing...and it works every time!

Leave your angst at home, nothing heavy or moody here! One reviewer said, "It's like Buddy Holly fronting The Troggs." Or, "Jerry Lee Lewis on crack" that is the unusual and unique mix of 1950's and 1960's at its best.

Over the past seven years, The Woolly Bushmen have played many notable shows with iconic acts like, Southern Culture on the Skids, The Coathangers, The Black Lips, King Khan, Ty Segall, The Beat, The Fleshtones, Schizophonics, Gringo Star, and many more, as well as frequently being invited to play festivals. They currently do routine tours of Europe and the United States.

From the beginning, The Woolly Bushmen have rarely had to hustle for gigs...shortly after they emerged from their garage studio, they were and continue to be asked to play more gigs than they can handle. Both, The Orlando Weekly and The Orlando Music News have voted them Best New Band, Band of the Week, and Best Orlando Release of 2012...you name it. The Woolly Bushmen have repeatedly been invited to play live on multiple radio stations as well as having regular radio airplay.

In July 2011, The Woolly Bushmen released a demo EP entitled, "Here Cometh The Woolly Bushmen" on cassette tape and sold out in less than 2 months! The band's eponymously titled full length CD was released in July 2012 at a live show in Orlando that saw the parking lot filled with fans unable to get in to the packed club, yet, stayed on site because it was the place to be! The CD received great reviews and has sold thousands without any promotion other than gigs! The band's merchandise, t-shirts, bumper stickers and CD's are sold out as soon as a new run is produced. They released a well-received seven-inch record in April of 2013. All three releases have seen airplay on several radio stations on the east coast.

In 2015 The Woolly Bushmen released their first properly yet self-produced LP Sky Bosses on their self run label Chesterwick Records. The group recently released their latest LP Arduino on L.A.'s Pig Baby Records, produced by Rick Miller of Southern Culture On The Skids

The band's third full length, In Shambles will be available on LP, CD and download on May 10th, 2019 via Pig Baby Records. Pre-orders are available HERE
