Mick's Jaguar premiere new track from forthcoming RidingEasy Records debut via The Obelisk

"An infectious 10-track spinner. As the band's name implies, Mick's Jaguar has definitely got a hearty Stones vibe to it. That, coupled with those searing metallic riffs got me right into the record's groove." -- Doomed & Stoned

"A clean, classic-feeling 10-tracks. Apart from its attitude, what draws the album together is a consistent sans-frills production and a penchant for big hooks." -- The Obelisk

New York City rock 'n' roll sextet Mick's Jaguar premiere a new track from their forthcoming debut album on RidingEasy Records today via The Obelisk. Hear and share "Where We Go" HERE. (Direct YouTube.)

Doomed & Stoned recently shared album opener "The Real Boss" HERE. (Direct YouTube.) The band previously launched the first single "Blood On The Snow" via YouTube.

Rock and roll is dead in New York City. Long live New York City rock and roll. Mick's Jaguar is bringing noisy, wild, unafraid big rock back to NYC. Crazy rents, corporatized venues, and kids listening to DJ's: it's hard being a band in this town.

This isn't LA and Mick's Jaguar is a product of their environment: a windowless dungeon practice space 20 feet below the trash covered sidewalk of the Lower East Side. Rats, grime, the sounds of the city; Mick's Jaguar gleefully pillages the history of rock music to create thoroughly modern, but classic rock and roll. Not quite punk, but not metal either, this is hard rock and roll that's been put through the brain blenders of 6 musicians who pair their Judas Priest shirts with Steely Dan hats. They claim no musical lineage to New York - they just live there. If you need to compare them to something, the night AC/DC played CBGB's would be about as close as you can get.

The group formed as a drunken Rolling Stones cover band, and after a few years of mainlining Stones songs and playing sporadic shows marred by violence and sprayed by beer, they started writing originals that attracted the attention of RidingEasy Records. And their new album, Fame and Fortune, sounds absolutely nothing like the Stones. The three guitarists -- yes three guitars -- open the album with a riff of buzzsaw intensity that would make a Ramone proud. But then like Jim Morrison sashaying into a wine shop, it drunkenly careens into a big sounding rock and roll album somewhere in between Van Halen and Tres Hombres. Guitar solos abound, Thin Lizzy harmonies soar, the bass and drums make a groove that will shake the asses on the dance floor and put a rumble in your loins. Songs about life, death, cars, blood, murder, sex, drugs and booze are the world of Mick's Jaguar. Don't forget - this is what rock and roll is all about. Listen close and you'll hear hat tips to your bands, Mick's Jag knows their history and likes to rip it apart.

Recorded in Brooklyn at Figure 8 Recording by engineering wizard Philip Weinrobe, and fueled by a steady diet of Allen's Coffee Brandy, the Fame And Fortune sessions resulted in only one hospital visit and it just might be your favorite album of 1978, 1988, or 2018. This is music that's made for listening to while driving fast in your car, and while relaxing at the local strip club. It's okay to have fun. Cute indie bands make everyone puke. That shit stops now. Let there be rock.

Fame and Fortune will be available on LP, CD and download on June 22nd, 2018 via RidingEasy Records. Preorders are available at ridingeasyrecs.com

L.A. Beat Scene meets electronic, jazz & avant-garde: Spoony Bard shares new single "Far Flung"

"A dizzying, sometimes disorienting sound that will garner comparisons to Dälek, Flying Lotus, Aphex Twin and others. Ceaseless in its sonic exploration, restless in its vision and tireless in its sense of invention." -- PopMatters

NYC producer and musician spoony bard (lowercase, please) shares the first single today from his forthcoming sophomore album via PopMatters. The track "Far Flung" is the first taste of the new album currently in production, slated for release in 2018. Hear and share "Far Flung" HERE. (Direct Soundcloud and Bandcamp.)

spoony bard's 2017 debut album dweeb is available to hear & share via BandcampSoundcloud.

Like the video game garbled insult of its namesake, spoony bard is the result of a cultural collision as well as an honest and self-deprecating exploration of life. The hybrid of L.A. beat scene, electronic, jazz and avant-garde takes a fresh approach to musical soul-bearing with compelling sonic textures and introspective lyrics. spoony bard combines hints of Flying Lotus, Dalek, DJ Premier, Herbie Hancock, Aphex Twin and more.

spoony bard is the alter-ego of musician David Nord. Originally a jazz composer/guitarist, Nord's equal interest in hip-hop and electronic sounds brought about an evolution in his work, leading him to merge these styles and explore the possibilities of an alternate musical vocabulary.

"Just playing jazz wasn't cutting it anymore," Nord says. "I started hearing the L.A. beat scene type stuff that was coming out and got inspired to really dive deeper into synthesizers, sampling, music software, etc., while also continuing to hone the harmonic and melodic approach that I had developed as a jazz musician."

Dweeb is the 8-song full length debut of spoony bard. The album is filled with delightful instrumental passages like the glitchy organs, tiny piano plinking and diced rhythms of the title track, as well as contemplative sung/rapped passages like, "I'm living with so many misgivings, they weigh me down but I don't care / She once told me that I scare them away, I said well they scare me, but at least I'm not afraid of myself like I used to be." Elsewhere, mellow trip-hop leaning tones and beats turn on a dime into cathartic raps. Throughout, Dweeb is a thoroughly unique and revealing album from an artist unhindered by genres and rules.

Dweeb is available for download, released on May 12th, 2017 via Bandcamp, iTunes, Spotify, Apple Music, etc.

HERE LIES MAN share new track "Taking The Blame", Antibalas members "if Black Sabbath played Afrobeat"

"An evolutionary step forward for their sound." - Metal Hammer

"A woozy wall of Afrobeat inspired fuzzbox riff worship and pounding circular rhythmic power, Here Lies Man connect the stoner rock underground straight to downtown Lagos." - The Quietus

"This is a band ahead of their time." -- The Obelisk

Los Angeles quintet Here Lies Man share a new single from their forthcoming highly anticipated sophomore album today via The Obelisk. Hear and share "Taking The Blame" HERE and at Bandcamp and YouTube. The album, You Will Know Nothing will be released June 15th via RidingEasy Records

Earlier in the month, the band released "That Much Closer To Nothing" via YouTube. Back in March, the band dropped the first song, "Fighting" via YouTube

Here Lies Man play the prestigious Primavera Sound festival in Barcelona, Spain tomorrow before hitting the road with Earthless in June. Later in Fall, the band hits the massive Desert Daze festival in Southern California. Please see current dates below.

Here Lies Man took the music world by storm in 2017 with their self-titled debut positing the intriguing hypothesis: What if Black Sabbath played Afrobeat

Rough Trade named Here Lies Man in their prestigious Top 10 Albums of 2017. BBC 6 & Classic Rock Magazine deemed it among the year's best, as well as countless other press outlets singing its praises.

This June, the L.A. band comprised of Antibalas members quickly follow their auspicious debut with the even more thoroughly realized album You Will Know Nothing. Its 11 tracks expand upon the band's exploration of heavy riff-based rock and psych within the ancient rhythmic formula of the clave.

"We're very conscious of how the rhythms service the riffs," explains founder and vocalist/guitarist/multi-instrumentalist Marcos Garcia (who also plays guitar in Antibalas) of the band's sound. "Tony Iommi's (Black Sabbath) innovation was to make the riff the organizing principle of a song. We are taking that same approach but employing a different organizing principle: For Iommi it was the blues, for us it comes directly from Africa."

Sonically, on You Will Know Nothing the dynamic range is thicker, crisper and more powerful. It glistens as much as it blasts. The songs are even catchier, more anthemic, and the production reflects that of a band truly come into its own. Lyrically, it's an equally more conceptualized effort that reflects upon states of being and consciousness - a driving force that carries throughout the words and moods of all of the band's releases, interconnected to their trancelike music. Here Lies Man have honed their sound and their focus, and soon, you will truly know Nothing

"We wanted to go deeper with the sonic experience," says Garcia. "Even though it sounds more hi-fi than the first record, it was important that it didn't sound too polished."

While You Will Know Nothing certainly maintains its gritty grooves, there's an interesting conceptual mathematics to the entire proceedings. "There are interludes between each song that are 2/3 to 3/4 of the tempo of the previous song," Garcia says. "The reason it breaks down to 2 over 3 or 3 over 4 is that everything in the music rhythmically corresponds to a set of mathematical algorithms known as the clave. The clave is an ancient organizing rhythmic principle developed in Africa."

"We dove deep into the texture of the music, beyond the groove and the riff," says HLM cofounder and drummer Geoff Mann (former Antibalas drummer and son of jazz musician Herbie Mann.) "Although something might sound like one instrument, there are subtle layers shifting through. It's definitely a headphone album."

Garcia and Mann recorded the album much like they did the debut, at their own L.A. studio on a Tascam 388 8-track tape machine. Congas were later recorded by percussionists Richard Panta and Reinaldo DeJesus. Then, Garcia went to NY to record interludes with former Antibalas keyboardist Victor Axelrod. Mixing took the most time in order to find the proper sonic space for each layer of musical detail, with first album engineer Jeremy Page mixing the drums and the band tackling the remainder while also juggling a hectic touring schedule.

Here Lies Man has already spent much of early 2018 on tour, with dates supporting Antibalas and Fu Manchu as well as a headlining trek through the EU & UK. Many summer festival dates and headline tours await later in the year as Here Lies Man continues its infectious charge onward.

You Will Know Nothing will be available on LP, CD and download on June 15th, 2018 via RidingEasy Records

Mike Spine streaming 2xLP anthology in full, "like Ted Leo meets Kinks' Ray Davies"

"Fascinating... The collection reveals a certain affinity for British rock in the vein of Queen, the intersection of Latin music with popular European-influenced music and, across the board he reveals an ability to tell stories that'll capture your imagination and potentially break your heart." -- PopMatters

"Gorgeously arranged folk-rock...Likely to get stuck in your head after the first spin." -- TrebleZine

"Spine balances punk energy, his own political frustrations and bursts of guitar shredding with catchy harmonies, making for a sound that brings to mind the likes of Joe Strummer and Ted Leo but with a slightly gritty edge." -- Glide Magazine

Seattle/Europe based troubadour Mike Spine is streaming his forthcoming double album anthology in full ahead of release starting today via PopMatters. Hear and share Forage & Glean HERE. (Direct Soundclioud & Bandcamp.)

GhettoBlaster Magazine recently hosted the singsong ballad "Kiss and Remember" HERE, while Glide Magazine shared the rocking anthem "Meteorite" HERETrebleZine recently unveiled "Crumble" HEREAnd, UK outlet XSnoize previously shared lead single "Delirious" HERE

Mike Spine is a critically acclaimed Seattle born and Seattle/Europe based musician known for his captivating live performances, intelligent songwriting and support of humanitarian issues. He has played hundreds of shows in five continents since 1995 and has received press and radio airplay throughout the US, Europe, UK and Asia.

Forage & Glean, Volumes I & II, is the 10th full-length studio album for Mike Spine. It is a 32 track double album, an anthology containing the best of Mike's songwriting and recordings from the last two decades.

Volume I is a collection of Spine's best work of folk rock and rock songs, including the memorable and more relevant than ever "Crumble", personal political songs such as "Meteorite", and the labor themed "Sand in Your Teeth".  There's also a hauntingly beautiful version of "The French Girl" and the stripped down "Black Diamond", the lyrically dense and moving tale of families immigrating to work in the coalmines outside Seattle in the early 1900's.

Volume II contains Spine's more explosive rock and punk material. It opens with the dynamic anti-war song "Kiss and Remember" and then launches into fiery, complex and catchy rockers, which touch on the themes of global warming with "Second Hand", empire "Transylvania" and the anti-corruption song, "Power Broker", before transitioning into the hook filled songs like "Iron Lake" hybrid country punk song "Another Day" and the rocker version of "Meteorite".

For twenty years, Mike Spine bounced between the worlds of folk rock, underground rock and punk, while simultaneously working as an inner city language arts and social studies teacher in Seattle, Portland, New York and London.

Since retiring from public school teaching in 2011, Mike has spent his time focused on music, having performed hundreds of concerts and benefit shows in multiple continents, ranging from Italy to Vietnam, Cambodia and Costa Rica. The last few years he has split his time between the US and Europe, touring extensively throughout the EU and often living out of a motorhome for months at a time.

Credits:
The songs on Forage & Glean were predominantly recorded and mixed at Haywire Recording in Portland, Oregon with longtime engineer Rob Bartleson (Wilco, Pink Martini, Pond, etc.). The album was mastered by Ed Brooks (Pearl Jam, REM, Heart, Fleet Foxes, etc.) at RFI/Resonant in Seattle, Washington.

The recordings were made with a highly talented pool of band mates from the United States, Europe and South America over the last decade.

Core musicians on Volume I include Joey Prude and Chris Croft on Drums, Martin Flores on guitars, Katie Toft and Ali Ippolito on piano, accordion and backing vocals, Amelia Claire on backing vocals, Robert Bartleson on electric bass, Brian Casey on upright bass, Barbara Luna on violin and Mike Spine on guitars, vocals, songwriting, arrangements, etc.

Core musicians on Volume II include: Jeff Gall and Chris Croft on drums, Martin Flores on guitars, Richie Parish on guitar and bass, Jack Peters on bass, Amelia Claire on backing vocals and Mike Spine on guitars, vocals, etc.

Noisey streaming Japanese Metalpunks SUZISUZI (Yellow Machinegun, ex-Abnormals) new album in full

"Jittery punk chaos... Joyfully manic, solo studded, wild-eyed songs that radiate positive energy even when they're bemoaning the hassles of modern living " -- Noisey

"The stuff punk rock dreams are made of: Loud, careening guitars, rhythms that call to mind multi-vehicle pileups on the interstate, lyrics that may mean everything of may mean nothing at all." -- PopMatters

Japanese punk-metal quartet SUZISUZI (featuring Yellow Machinegun and ex-Abnormals members) are streaming their forthcoming sophomore album Microphone's Counter Attack (Pure Evil Records) in full today via Noisey. Hear and share the full album HERE. (Direct Soundcloud.)

Noisey also previously shared the band's 2016 debut Scream Addict alongside an interview with vocalist/bassist Kaori Okumura HERE. PopMatters recently hosted the album title track HERE.

SUZISUZI ("suzi" in Japanese means "vein") formed after 2 bands -- Yellow Machinegun and Abnormals -- met 15 years ago and became good friends. Yellow Machinegun was an all-girl band that debuted in 1996 in Osaka, Japan. They made a huge impact with their screaming vocal styles, not only in Japan but also among the international hardcore/metal scene, leading to tours with Slayer, Motorhead and S.O.D. (with whom they also released a split album.)

Abnormals are from Tokyo, Japan and have been attracting punk fans with their dark view of the world since the late 1980s.

Through a chance encounter, the two bands collaborated together to release a split album in 2000, followed by a tour throughout Japan. Since then, the members of Yellow Machinegun and Abnormals have become good friends, and eventually created SUZISUZI.

Abnormals guitarist IxSxO and drummer Murochin asked Yellow Machinegun bassist/vocalist Kaori to start the band together when her band announced a short break. IxSxO was keen to use a girl's name for their band, and Kaori liked the sound of "Susie". Murochin suggested the word "SUZI" (meaning "vein" in Japanese)  after the veins that appears on their necks when the band members scream. Thus, SUZISUZI was born.

In 2011, SUZISUZI did their first gig in Tokyo and decided to add another female vocal. Kaori called and asked K of the Pure Evil record label to join. She is an old friend of Kaori's who has helped her out with lyrics over the years. The full 4-piece band's debut was in Tokyo in May 2015 and shocked fans... in good way.

In their lyrics, you can hear the band's fun message: “Hey, it’s OK, life is short and don’t waste the time any more in negative vibes.” Sing along with SUZISUZI songs in a very, very positive mood and it will make you feel so happy and clear.

Microphone's Counter Attack will be available on CD and download on May 25th, 2018. Order via suzisuzi.com and iTunes

MONOLORD announce North American headlining tour following Psycho Las Vegas festival in August

Download poster here

"Universally beloved... Swedish doom royalty." -- Noisey

"A truly modern sound: recognizably doom, but with glistening production values and adventurous songcraft." -- Consequence of Sound

"The Platonic Form of doom...perfection... faultless." -- Echoes & Dust

"Hugely accessible without having sacrificed their crushing heaviness." -- Metal Hammer

"Monolord's records have only gotten heavier, and now the band has taken a turn for the catchy (yet still crushing)." -- Metal Injection

"Rust is perfect; it’s as fuzzed out as any of the genre’s great records, but the mix is clean and even, allowing the drums and vocals to cut through. Most importantly, there are songs aplenty: you’ll be humming the riffs and vocal hooks immediately." -- Metal Sucks

Gothenburg, Sweden trio Monolord announce North American headlining tour dates following their performance at Psycho Las Vegas festival in August. Please see all dates below.

Monolord's recently released third album, Rust received universal praise in reviews, and landed atop multiple Album of The Year lists for 2017 -- including the #1 Album of 2017 on the Doom Charts collective of journalists, bloggers, radio and podcasters. Rust is available to hear & share on YouTube and Bandcamp.

Monolord is a rare breed: A band both encompassing and transcending genre; a vortex of heavy rock density that consumes all others. Their thunderous, tuneful heft has built a rabid international fanbase in short order since their 2014 debut. But Rust, the band's third full length, truly exemplifies why some refer to them as the Nirvana of doom.

Monolord's enveloping, syrupy sludge is a vibe, it's a state of mind. Not riffs for riffs sake, but a collective buzzing, rattling and rumbling that's more total environment than collection of songs. Together, guitarist/vocalist Thomas Jäger, drummer Esben Willems and bassist Mika Häkki create a massive, dynamic sound with ultra-low frequencies serving as its fourth member.

Rust is available on LP, CD and download, released September 29th, 2017 via RidingEasy Records
