Products Band sign to Solid Brass label, Minneapolis band FFO: Television, Wire, GBV, Mission of Burma

Los Angeles label Solid Brass Records proudly announces the signing of Products Band to their roster. The band is currently wrapping up work on a new album to be released in 2023. More details will be announced soon.

Inspired by bands like Television, Wire, Pavement, and Guided By Voices, Products Band has been building up steam across the midwest since Jo, Alex, Konner and Jack started playing together in 2017. In true DIY fashion, they self-released both their 2018 EP On the Dotted Line and 2021’s full length Pink Puma as cassette only releases on their Bandcamp (definitely check those out). Throughout the pandemic they continued to write new music, refine their sound, and when the time was right they resumed playing shows—lots of them!

Products Band has shared the stage with bands like Gang of Four, Stuck, Dehd, Water From Your Eyes, and Palm, and recently announced dates for their upcoming Spring 2023 Tour, in addition to a few dates with Deerhoof this summer.

Follow the band for more details, spread the word, and stay tuned for more news coming soon!

About Solid Brass Records:

Solid Brass Records started in 2022 after a few friends from the 90’s DIY music scene reconnected over their shared appreciation for the community, people, and bands that influenced them 30 years prior. They decided to pool their collective knowledge and resources to start a label focused on reissuing music from that period as well as showcasing new bands similarly inspired by this scene.

Jason Pearson lives in Los Angeles and runs the day-to-day operations of the label. He grew up in Richmond, VA and also lived in Cleveland and Chicago before spending 15+ years working in project management and customer operations roles for several tech companies in the SF/Bay Area.

Chuck Pettry lives in Los Angeles and spent the 90s and early 2000s in Oakland where he worked for Alternative Tentacles, the merchandise company Cinder Block, and ran his own label Sound On Sound. Currently he helps run Sandbag, a music merchandise company known for their work for some of the largest artists in the industry. He also plays in the metal band, Glaciers.

Justin Sinkovich lives in Chicago and is currently a Professor at Columbia College where he teaches students how to launch their own businesses. During the early dotcom era he co-founded, and sold, the music streaming site Epitonic. He also worked as the US label manager for Southern Records as well as Head of Digital at Touch and Go Records. In the 90s Justin played in Thumbnail and Atombombpocketknife. He currently plays in The Poison Arrows.

SLUMBERING SUN (Temptress, Destroyer of Light, Monte Luna members) video premieres via Metal Injection

"Trippy, melodic doom metal. From the moment you hit play, 'Liminal Bridges' feels like a transitional track meant to guide you along a wispy, winding trail in a slightly foggy forest while on a quest." -- Metal Sucks

“An ice-cold blend of 90s alternative, doom, and prog that will quench your thirst for captivating melodies, thundering percussion, and grungy riffs! They’ve created an epic mash-up of classic doom and added the soaring vocals and towering instrumentation that took us on the sonic journey from Sabbath to Maiden to Soundgarden.” — CvltNation

“Immediately sets itself up to stand among 2023’s best debut albums, and it digs in willfully and with palpable knowledge of where it’s coming from and maybe even where it’s headed, impressing with scope while remaining structurally solid.” -- The Obelisk

"A catchier take on doom." -- Metal Injection

Austin band Slumbering Sun share the first official video from their debut album today via Metal Injection. Watch and share the video for "Liminal Bridges" HERE. (Direct YouTube.)

Hear and share the full album, The Ever-Living Fire which was just released on Friday via Bandcamp and Spotify.

Slumbering Sun is a powerful new melodic doom entity formed by members of underground mainstays Destroyer of Light and Monte Luna. Their resulting sound explores broader melodies and sonics than their other bands, inspired as much by Celtic folk standards as by doom in the vein of Warning, even with hints of the classic 90s heft of Soundgarden and Alice In Chains

After the breakup of their previous band, James Clarke & Keegan Kjeldsen resolved to forget the pain of an album that would never be released by creating something new. They resolved to launch a new band, with an album Keegan composed between work on other projects. They began one afternoon at the rehearsal space during the warm spring of Austin, with a few songs strummed on a clean, electric guitar. James began to write melodies, the two of them finished the lyrical content, and the idea began to evolve.

The band was assembled with other friends in the Texas metal scene, who’ve known each other from years of shows together. Kelsey Wilson of Temptress joined as lead guitarist and sojourned back and forth from Dallas. Garth Condit and Penny Turner – both in other bands with James & Keegan respectively – formed the rhythm section. Slumbering Sun was born. On a blisteringly hot week in the summer of 2022, the group recorded The Ever-Living Fire, the culmination of months of rehearsing and revising. All veterans of the road, the band plans on touring in the coming year.

The Ever-Living Fire will be available on CD, cassette and digital on February 24th, 2023. Vinyl LP will follow by summer, due to pressing plant delays. Pre-orders are available HERE

Morrison Graves unearth first single: Portland, OR heavy psych & doom meets Mark Lanegan, Black Angels, The Doors

"A very late in the year find, but quite a good one. If you love Jim Morrison and his vocals with The Doors, you will also enjoy Morrison Graves." #2 ranking (December '22) -- Doom Charts

“Bridging all ends of the psychedelic, surf, and indie rock spectrum for one multi-faceted composition.” — Heaviest of Art

Portland, OR band Morrison Graves share the first single from their forthcoming debut album, Division Rising. today via Heaviest of Art. Hear and share "Crane Song" HERE. (Direct Bandcamp) (Spotify)

Morrison Graves is a psychedelic rock project from Oregon, USA. Their moody, fuzzed-out, sound draws influences from late 60’s fuzz and garage, surf, psychedelia, and indie rock. But they infuse these atavistic leanings with heavy saturated guitars and metalgaze drone reminiscent of Black Angels and Dead Meadow. Meanwhile, vocalist Ryan Brown croons over the proceedings like a young Jim Morrison or early Mark Lanegan’s tuneful wail in Screaming Trees.

The group features multi-instrumentalist and founder Gary Jimmerson (Small Sails, This is a Process of a Still Life), bassist Rob Bartleson (Slackjaw, Haywire Recording), and vocalist Ryan Brown.

The bands debut album Division Rising is a 12-track concept album about gentrification, homelessness, displacement, and socio-economic gaps — issues that currently plague Portland and many other cities across the world. Made during the height of the pandemic, these 3 friends churned out a well-recorded and focused debut. With songs about falling out of love with a city on fire, being lost to the seams of space, and corporate greed, this psych-surf landscape has drawn comparisons to The Doors, Black Angels, Queens of the Stone Age, and dark spaghetti western music.

Division Rising will be available on LP, CD and digital on March 31, 2023. Pre-orders are available HERE

Rickshaw Billie's Burger Patrol announce SXSW shows, Shaky Knees & Thin Line Festivals + more Texas dates

“Fuzzed-out, speaker-exploding groove that's both sonically excruciating and intoxicatingly alluring. Rock'n'roll to the core, the Austin-based band has clearly taken notes from noise rock and doom on how to achieve this kind of duality, and then dialed up the formula to new absurd levels… They find a weird sweet spot of harshness and catchiness that goes down like a greasy, gut-busting bad decision.” — Invisible Oranges

“Very little pretense but a whole dollop of kick, conjuring the sounds of early Red Fang or Dead Quiet.” — Heavy Blog Is Heavy

“Oozes originality from their vocal delivery to their sleazy brand of stoner, doom and rock n roll and Doom Wop is no exception. You can put on this album and get absolutely crushed by fuzz, but all the while with a big smile on your face.” – Doom Charts

"Epically catchy... Imagine the ear-wormy fuzz-rock riffage of Dinosaur Jr. if it was played on an eight-string guitar with super heavy low-end." -- Revolver Magazine

Austin trio Rickshaw Billie's Burger Patrol announce a set of upcoming shows, including four SXSW appearances, Shaky Knees Festival in Atlanta and Thin Line Festival in Denton, as well as a handful of Texas area dates. Please see all dates below.

RBBP released their new album Doom Wop in September 2022. Hear Doom Wop on your favorite streaming service HERE. Revolver Magazine recently premiered the official video for "Heel" HERE. (Direct YouTube.)

With their 5th studio release, Rickshaw Billie’s Burger Patrol is putting a name to the style of fuzzed out, overdriven, melodic, groovy music they have been making since 2016. In 9 concise, no bullshit songs, RBBP demonstrates their ability to blend the merciless low end of Leo Lydon’s 8-String guitar, Aaron Metzdorf’s masterful chordwork on the bass, and Sean St.Germain’s driving drumwork. Lydon and Metzdorf’s vocal melodies cut through the high frequencies to deliver fresh layers to the hooks that RBBP fans have come to love.

As the name implies, Doom Wop is a heavy, melody-driven, party metal album. With riffs as big and dumb as ever, and lyrics that stab at the worst members of society and ourselves (while keeping tongue firmly in cheek), listeners will find all the elements that make up the soul of RBBP on this record.

Doom Wop is available on CD and download, released on September 23rd, 2022. Vinyl LP coming in late Spring 2023.

UK psych-punk sensation Dez Dare shares "Bozo" video single from forthcoming album Perseus War

"This balance - between big and small, between composure and fury - is what makes the record so engaging, Smallman's gaze of disdain flitting from universal issue to idiosyncratic bugbear without pause. Where the emotive weight could easily be lost within the tumult of post Geelong guitars, here it is high and bold, registering with intimacy and wit." -- The WIRE Magazine

“The lone fighter is something like the punky-grungey and above all a few years younger version of Bevis Frond, offering fuzzy psychedelic noise rock on ‘Ulysses Trash’.” OX FANZINE [8/10]

“It’s a wild mix of classic garage rock, psychedelic elements (Hawkwind says hello), typical punk riffs of the late 1970s, noise rock à la Sonic Youth or Fugazi, repetitive, shamanic recitations. 34 captivating minutes over thirteen songs from one cast.” Amplified [8/10]

“’Ulysses Trash’ is brilliantly conceived, shockingly under-produced and a worthy testimony to one man’s trip. Over in the blink of an eye in a gloriously extended WTF moment of unbridled chaos “Ulysses Trash” is a triumph and will comprehensively add more aural colours to your sonic palette.” All Music [9/10]

“I would say if Hawkwind wrote two-three minute punk songs, they would sound just like this and that’s a hell of a compliment!” Über Rock

"Bozo" is the second single and video from Dez Dare's forthcoming album Perseus War. It delves into the murky underbelly of leadership, control and how the people who wield this power suffer a disconnect with reality and accountability (mostly...) Watch via YouTube HERE

"Poor Bozo," Dez says. "The disheveled leader who can’t get the people to understand he just can’t be fucked. It isn’t his problem, the plebs are so needy! Nanny always told him he was a good boy. Chin up mate."

Perseus War is the 3rd album by Australian born, UK based artist Dez Dare. Leading on from 2022's Ulysses Trash, Dez presents 10 songs of dystopian indifference captured over 4 weeks in late 2022. Meant to be a companion EP to the last record, ideas spilled, riffs flowed, Perseus was born.

Dez Dare (aka Darren Smallman of BATTLE WORLDWIDE, Low Transit Industries, Thee Vinyl Creatures, The Sound Platform, Warped) grew up in Geelong, a port city located on Corio Bay and the Barwon River, in the state of Victoria, Australia where he became involved in the local punk and rock scene in 1990, playing in a band called Warped, sharing stages with the likes of Bored!, The 5678s, Fugazi, and The Dirty Three, going on to play in multiple bands spewing out sludgy punk rock, drone riffage and noisy pop abundance. Darren was embedded in the scene, playing music, running labels (founding record label and touring company Low Transit Industries in 1999 working with bands such as The Essex Green, Lilys, Elf Power, Okkervil River, Of Montreal, Black Mountain, Trans Am) before moving to the UK in 2010 where he has operated ever since.

"I looked into the void to find solace (freedom to fight, freedom of mind)," is sung out in the opening line of "STOP. STOP. STOP. TALKING." Regardless of the viewpoint Dez is singing from, this is the underlying sentiment. You can only be truly free with acceptance. Accepting you for who you are, that we all one day will die, that humans are flawed and beautiful, that otters are the best animals. Let go. The void has it covered.

Perseus War album will be available on March 17th, 2023. Pre-order physical media and pre-save streams at dezdare.com
