Johnny O'Donnell announces release of double EP of skewed classic pop

Click image above to watch video

"O'Donnell's compositions have a woozy barroom sagacity, and surprising arrangements to boot." -- Buzzbands LA

Wildly inventive songwriter Johnny O'Donnell writes songs as cleverly restless as himself. Having leapt in recent years from rural Louisiana to Seattle to South Korea to currently settling in Los Angeles, O'Donnell pens brilliantly skewed classic pop songs that likewise shift and morph from one style and sound to the next. His talents as a composer and storyteller echo those of legends like Paul McCartney, Harry Nilsson and Elliott Smith. Johnny O'Donnell and backing band, Sacramento announces the release of their double-EP debut, Masquerade / Korean Debutante on White Noise Records this summer. A slew of L.A. dates are set for summer (see details below) and tour dates for August - September will be announced soon.

Check out MP3s for "The Gothic Singer" HERE and "Supermarket Nightmare" HERE.

The video for "The Gothic Singer" -- shot entirely on 16mm film and directed by Kyle Safieh -- is a compelling fairytale told in the style of antique silent film, depicting the adventures of a swashbuckling troubadour. Watch the video HERE.

O'Donnell is the former guitarist in avant pop band Holy Ghost Revival. After that band's breakup, he moved to Seoul, South Korea, where he penned songs for his first EP, Korean Debutante. Later moving to the City of Angels, he mentored with Van Dyke Parks prior to assembling his band, Sacramento and completing a second EP, Masquerade. The double-EP assembles all nine songs into a single LP/digital format.

On Masquerade, the Golden Era of Hollywood gets the full cinematic treatment on a tripping journey amongst the relics of glamour, adventure and globetrotting that once made entertainment immortal. "The Gothic Singer" introduces a swashbuckling songwriter who honors Fairbanks and Errol Flynn by way of rhythmic hi-jinks and a few melodic leaps of faith. Korean Debutante is a compact collection of pop diamonds written by an incorrigible rake living in a spiritual hellhole, a singing postcard to America, sung through the blurred lips of a drunken ex-pat.

Where there's syrupy romance, a haunting mystery, a haughty swagger and an amusement park's worth of harmonic twists and turns, you're probably in the company of Johnny O'Donnell & Sacramento.

Boris release two new critically-acclaimed albums today, announce European tour dates with Russian Circles

"Boris' latest efforts are nothing short of stunning" -- Rock Sound

"Heavy Rocks is a monolithic take on everything from trippy Funkadelic acid sludge to galloping Blue Öyster pöp to lightning-riding '80s thrash; yet it all billows fluffily from the same dreamy doom factory they constructed on 2005's Pink. Farther into the cosmos is sister record Attention Please, the least "metal" thing the band have released to date, which focuses on icy rhythms and smoky moods, as if they're slinking up alongside The Xx." -- SPIN Magazine

"Despite Boris' wide sonic interests, everything comes together coherently on Attention Please, the band's best record since Pink." -- NPR

"These could easily be pegged as Boris' Zen Arcade -- the point where guitar music goes into the great beyond, pop hooks become heavier than hell and noise experiments become acutely accessible. These albums are a masterwork of feedback and fuzz, an epic symphony of sludge and speed, a blueprint for the future of heavy music." -- Cowbell Magazine

Iconoclast Japanese trio Boris release two new full length albums today via Sargent House. In support of these releases, the band will co-headline a European/UK tour with new label mates Russian Circles this summer (see complete dates below). Boris' vastly different albums, Attention Please and all-new Heavy Rocks have already received a wealth of critical praise and fan anticipation. NPR Music's First Listen has posted exclusive full album streams -- follow the links to check out Attention Please and Heavy Rocks

About both albums -- please see track listings and cover art below:

Boris - Attention Please - LP/CD/digital
Boris are widely known for their ability to breach styles and stretch sonic boundaries of all that is heavy, psychedelic, droning and downright cathartic. But, Attention Please is more like a complete redefining of their potential in several ways. First and foremost, it is the first album on which all vocals are sung by lead guitarist, Wata. While she has previously sung on a couple of songs for singles and her solo outings, the entire 10-song album features her intimate, multifaceted vocal style. Secondly, the songs on Attention Please have a sultry, intoxicating catchiness to them. It's melodic without sounding pop. It's psychedelic without sounding dated. It's heavy without relying on barre chord riffs.

Boris - Heavy Rocks - LP/CD/digital
Boris has earned its rabid cult following for their ability to expertly harness music as power. Be it psychedelic metal, colossal drone, blistering punk or distortion-ravaged shoegaze, a Boris song is an exploration of sound as physical mass. The Japanese trio's classic 2002 album, Heavy Rocks
is a landmark of their mastery. So, it's fitting that the group's new album sharing the same title and very similar artwork to that disc, Heavy Rocks (2011) seeks to redefine "heavy" music in a culmination of the band's tireless efforts over the past two decades. This year's Heavy Rocks is beyond heavy, it firmly establishes Boris as a pillar of innovation and integrity in guitar-based music.

Jail Weddings play Silverlake Jubilee in L.A. this weekend, release new video "The Impossible"

Click image above to watch video

"One of the year's most exhilarating and infectious records, and an assured statement of purpose by one of L.A.'s most compelling groups." -- NBC San Diego

"Hart's obsessively Orbison-esque vocal pleas can send shivers down the spine and draw a tiny tear to the eye in songs that reek of moody doo-wop and do not skimp on the steamy, heaving punk rock & roll." -- LA Weekly

Los Angeles' garage-punk revision of 60s chamber pop, Jail Weddings has been tapped to play the illustrious Silverlake Jubilee in their hometown this weekend. The two day event, May 21st and 22nd gathers a wide array of the city's rising talents in music (Crystal Antlers, Ximena Sarinana, et al.), literature, comedy, art and more. Jail Weddings also plays several west coast dates in coming months, including stints supporting Andre Williams, as well as being the R&B legend's backing band. Please see complete dates below.

The band has also released the latest video in a series of clips for each of the 13 songs on their recent album, Love Is Lawless (full album stream). Watch the noir-romantic video for "The Impossible" HERE. Check out previous videos linked below.

Fronted by Gabriel Hart (explosive frontman and mastermind behind the now defunct LA noir punks The Starvations), Jail Weddings is often described as "Nick Cave fronting The Shangri-Las." The band has carefully crafted these 13 songs over a three year period (since their inception in the summer of 2007), released October 2010 on the still skidding heels of two sold out singles and 2009's critically acclaimed EP Inconvenient Dreams (White Noise/Tru-Vow).

JAIL WEDDINGS LIVE:

Tera Melos release new 51-minute song, tour documentary trailer and announce UK/Ireland dates

Click image above to watch video

"Once in a rare while an album comes along that's so fresh and ingenious it redefines what's possible in a field of music. It's been some time since a trio armed with guitar, drums, bass and vocals have shattered the boundaries of convention and pushed the limits of their instruments and compositions like a graceful tsunami of invention. " -- Exclaim!

"Tera Melos has ferociously explored the outer limits of bizarre time signatures and unhinged thrash since its self-titled 2005 debut. But the band's full-length, Patagonian Rats is more akin to the type of freak-pop perversion dished out by daring pioneers like Devo and The Flaming Lips." -- Wired.com

Sacramento genre-benders Tera Melos have released a new 51-minute-long track called "Echo On the Hills of Knebworth" in an effort to raise funds for an upcoming UK/Ireland jaunt this summer (see complete dates below). Additionally, a full length documentary of the band's recent co-headlining tour with Marnie Stern was shot by Terroreyes.tv for release later this year. The trailer, with snippets of behind-the-scenes road antics and live footage can be seen HERE.

Tera Melos' lengthy new song is culled from an extensive improvisation recorded in the studio while completing their most recent album, Patagonian Rats. Fans are asked to donate a $5 minimum to download the song, with all proceeds going directly to the band to offset travel costs for their upcoming first tour in the UK and Ireland. Here's how the band explains the release.

The group launches its overseas dates with the Forbidden Fruit Festival (w/ Flaming Lips, Aphex Twin, Battles and many more) in Dublin, performing on the stage curated by Sargent House sibling label The Richter Collective (home of breakout trio Adebisi Shank).
Tera Melos' most recent album Patagonian Rats landed on many Best of 2010 lists, as well as receiving raves from Wired.com, Exclaim!, ALARM Press, Impose and Exploding In Sound. Marnie Stern also named it her favorite album of the year in SPIN. MP3 and video links follow below, or stream the entire Tera Melos discography via Bandcamp.

Le Butcherettes' highly-anticipated album out today, L.A. show kicks off summer tour for Mexico City transplant garage-punk trio

"The best act I saw:  Le Butcherettes singer Teri Gender Bender is something of a stunner. She can howl, she can yell, she can growl the letter "R" into multi-syllables, and she needs little more than one ferocious drum beat to have her way with a song. And just in case you're not paying attention when Teri sings that she's sick of you, she'll do a backward stage dive."-- LA Times

"As immediate as the songs are on Sin Sin Sin, they also hold up remarkably well to repeated listens and represent a musical diversity not often found on punk records. While Le Butcherettes may be celebrated for the insanity and spectacle of their live gigs, the thrilling Sin Sin Sin proves they’re far more than a mere gimmick or novelty." -- Consequence of Sound

"Any band who rocks this hard and leaves the crowd looking this limp and sweaty - some even splattered with a little fake blood - deserves some sort of honorary prize." -- LA Weekly

The rampantly raved-about garage-punk trio Le Butcherettes release their debut full-length, Sin Sin Sin today. To celebrate the occasion, the group led by charismatic 21-year-old vocalist/guitarist/pianist Teri Gender Bender plays a headlining album release show in Los Angeles on Wednesday, May 11th. Shortly thereafter, Le Butcherettes take to the road supporting Deftones and The Dillinger Escape Plan. Please see complete dates below.

AOL Spinner is streaming the full album all week long, listen HERE. NPR's All Songs Considered served up an exclusive premiere of "I'm Getting Sick of You" HERE. And, check out MP3s for other album tracks, "Henry Don't Got Love" HERE and "New York" HERE.

Teri Gender Bender -- a recent transplant to L.A. from Guadalajara, Mexico -- gives Le Butcherettes a brazen intensity and playful, hook-laden simplicity that hacks to pieces all forms of pretension and excess. Upon relocating to Los Angeles in late 2010, Teri recruited renowned drummer Gabe Serbian (The Locust) and bassist Jonathan Hischke (Hella, Broken Bells) to round out the lineup.

The band's songs and wildly cathartic live shows often draw comparisons to Karen O, Patti Smith Bikini Kill and other female-fronted rock groups. But, there's a theatricality to Le Butcherettes that brings a further reaching sense of mystery and imagery to the band. For more on the band's impressive back story, see the complete bio HERE

Le Butcherettes' full length debut, Sin Sin Sin was produced by Omar Rodriguez Lopez, who also plays bass on all of the album's tracks, and issued the album May 10th, 2011 on Rodriguez Lopez Productions via Sargent House
