Halycine premiere video for acclaimed single "Circles"

"A a hazy and dreamy ballad, which sounds a bit like a torch song fed through a Kevin Shields filter, or some of the more darkly romantic material from Dum Dum Girls." -- Treble

"Spontaneously calling to mind both Bethany Cosentino and Jenny Lewis... comes to life through gutsy guitar lines and soothing vocal harmonies." -- Impose Magazine

NYC band Halycine premiere the video for their acclaimed song "Circles" from their recent debut release today via CultureCreature. The video, directed by singer/guitarist Chloe Raynes, is available to watch and share HERE. (Vimeo or YouTube.)

TrebleZine. recently premiered the clip for "Elixir" HERE. (Direct Vimeo and YouTube.) Impose Magazine recently premiered the video for the dark David Lynch style tale of frenemies, hatred and deceit in "One More Try". Watch and share HERE. (Direct Vimeo & YouTube).

Halycine released their debut, In The Salt in August 2016 and it's available to hear and share on Soundcloud and Bandcamp

Halycine, the moniker for the solo project of singer/guitarist Chloe Raynes, is a fresh new voice in indie rock. Her debut EP, In The Salt, is a collection of 5 songs that she wrote and produced, and 3 videos that she directed.

Chloe previously co-fronted NYC's rock outfit Blue & Gold before embarking on the new project that would become Halycine. In The Salt is a luscious blend of reverberating guitars and spacious vocals. It's a sonically imaginative and and lyrically vivid collection of deeply affecting songs. The EP was tracked and mixed at The End in Greenpoint, Brooklyn with GG Gonzalez on drums and Derek Cabrera on bass.

After hearing Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" for the first time at 10-years-old, she decided that she had no choice but to pick up the guitar and begin shredding. Her life was forever changed, and she's been playing and writing songs ever since.

Chloe studied music composition at the arctic campus of Bates College in Maine. She managed to get through the long winters with a soundtrack of Liz Phair, Sleater-Kinney, and Sublime. She moved to NYC shortly after graduation, absorbing the sights and sounds that would eventually shape her musical sensibilities. Other musical influences include Dum Dum Girls, St. Vincent, and Jenny Lewis.

Portland art-pop trio Swansea streaming album in full

"Super innovative and ultra catchy. Flaws is unstoppably fun." -- Impose

"Rich, layered, danceable works that continuously evolve off of their initial pivot points. An immediately entrancing cut, 'Gain Their Grace' bursts at the seams with smart turns to keep the grooves and hooks coming on strong not unlike the best Little Dragon has to offer." -- Speak In My Good Eye

"Fun sans guilt -- integrity and attention paid to how they approach synth pop constructs and percussive loops, ear candy that's neither MOR nor disposable." -- Letters From a Tapehead

Portland trio Swansea are streaming their entire sophomore album, Flaws today via Letters From a Tapehead. Hear Flaws in full HERE. And, share via Bandcamp or Soundcloud. All tracks cleared for posting.

TrebleZine recently shared ebullient single "Brighter" HERE, stating, “evokes the pop sensibility of Future Islands with the epic disco pulse of LCD Soundsystem...Increasingly building pop immediacy, big hooks, hypnotic vocals and a melody that sticks around well after the song is over.” The Spill Magazine premiered "Just Like It Used To Be" HERESpeak In My Good Eye launched "Gain Their Grace" HEREImpose Magazine kicked off lead track "Red Mittens" HERE.

Swansea formed in 2011 when Portland, Oregon mainstays, musician/actress/writer, Rebecca Sanborn (Loch Lomond, Blue Cranes) and drummer, Ji Tanzer (Blue Cranes, Rebecca Gates) recruited Kansas City multi-instrumentalist/singer Kyleen King to expand the sound of their long standing duo project.

As a trio, in 2012 the group released their first full length album Old Blood and completed multiple tours of the United States. Between 2013-2015, Swansea toured Europe and found significant success in scoring and licensing music for a diverse array of films, including the track & field documentary We Grew Wings (2013), the feature length, multi-award winning dramas Light of Mine (2013), A Standing Still (2014) and Death On A Rock (2015).

With the engineering/production help of John Askew (Neko Case, Wild Flag), Swansea's sophomore album, Flaws is slated for a Spring 2017 release on the Self Group label. Stylistically, Swansea combine artful narrative and atmospheric sweep with a touch of dancey, off-the-cuff toughness, often drawing comparison to LCD Soundsystem, St. Vincent and My Brightest Diamond.

Charming Disaster stream full album ahead of release, East Coast tour continues

"Gothic folk murder balladry, not unlike PJ Harvey at her most ornate. But there's an accessibility and pop sensibility that also nods to the likes of Andrew Bird or Regina Spektor. It's darkness cut with a melodic immediacy, and it's a thing of fanciful beauty." -- Treble

Brooklyn, NY duo Charming Disaster are streaming in full their forthcoming sophomore album Cautionary Tales today at Impose Magazine. Hear and share the dark literary leaning full length HERE. (Direct Soundcloud.)

GhettoBlaster Magazine premiered the third single, "Little Black Bird" this week, available to hear and share HERE. Lead single "Sympathetic Magic" recently launched via TrebleZine HERE. Northern Transmissions previously shared "Snake Bit" HERE

The band is currently on an East Coast tour in support of the album release. Please see complete dates below. The duo's NYC hometown album release party is April 29th at Hell Phone Speakeasy. Tickets & info HERE.

Charming Disaster is a songwriting and performance duo formed by musicians Ellia Bisker (of Sweet Soubrette and Funkrust Brass Band) and Jeff Morris (of Kotorino) in 2012. Inspired by the gothic humor of Edward Gorey and Tim Burton, the noir storytelling of Raymond Chandler, the stylish aesthetic of French new wave film, the murder ballads of the Americana tradition, and the dramatic flair of the cabaret, they write songs that tell stories - exploring themes like love, death, crime, ancient mythology, and the paranormal.

Their song "Ghost Story" was featured on the podcast Welcome to Night Vale, and they were awarded "best closing credits music" by the 2016 Garden State Film Festival for their song "Right Words to Say" (featured in the short film Mary and Louise). They released their debut album, Love, Crime & Other Trouble, in 2015, and their second album, Cautionary Tales, will be released in spring 2017.

Many of the songs on Cautionary Tales were created in February 2015, when the duo spent two weeks holed up in an isolated cabin in the snowy woods of northern Michigan. Cautionary Tales expands on Charming Disaster's spooky, offbeat universe of paranormal romance, circus and carnival characters, con artists, and Egyptian mythology with new songs of espionage, occult practices, supernatural creatures, and the end of the world as we know it. The album's musical influences include traditional murder ballads, the duo collaborations of PJ Harvey and John Parish, and the folkier side of Led Zeppelin. Charming Disaster's literary bent is also in evidence, with references to cult fantasy novels Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell and The Golden Compass as well as ancient lore from Greek and Norse mythology.

Cautionary Tales will be available on CD and download on April 21st, 2017. Preorders are available via Bandcamp

Belgian band BRUTUS signs to Sargent House, shares first track from worldwide release of debut album 'Burst'

"A powerful and thrilling blend of punk, rock, indie and hardcore that'll get the teeth in your skull rattling." - NME

"Brutus contribute an intriguing new voice to underground music." -- Rock Sound

"They're in a field of their own... this is one of the albums of the year" (5/5 Ks) -- KERRANG!

Sargent House is proud to announce the addition of Belgian trio Brutus to its management and label roster. Sargent House will soon release the band's debut album Burst in North America and the rest of the world in partnership with Hassle Records, the band's European label. "My reaction was immediate, the second I heard the first track I was hooked and knew I wanted to be part of this band's team," says Cathy Pellow, who also manages such artists as Chelsea Wolfe, Deafheaven, Russian Circles to name just a few.

Metal Injection premieres the first single from the album, "All Along" today, available to hear and share HERE. (Direct Soundcloud.)

Hailing from Leuven, Belgium, Brutus create a pummeling, meteor-shower of sound. Vocalist/drummer Stefanie Mannaerts mixes black-metal blast beats with math-rock flourishes whilst belting out the most impassioned vocals that shift from deceptively melodic to outright larynx-punishing in the blink of an eye. Meanwhile, guitarist Stijn Vanhoegaerden takes ethereal post-rock tones to hardcore punk levels of speed and energy alongside Peter Mulders' powerful sub-frequency shift. The three conspire to make a sound as monolithic and frantic as it is emotive.

"For this record, I had to dig deep into hidden and guarded emotions," Stefanie reveals. "It's not so easy to sing about myself, so I used the third person. And it's also not easy to drum a blast-beat over a melodic vocal to capture some exact feelings. 'All Along' is for a loved one, a band, the friends around me that are actually able to stand me."

Having gigged rigorously across Belgium, in April 2016 Brutus decamped to Vancouver, BC to record Burst. "We sent an email to Jesse Gander (Japandroids, White Lung), his reply with sushi emoji's was an instant ticket," Stefanie explains. "The time in Canada, living together and working in the studio was refreshing, inspiring, healing and confronting at the same time." Burst is the perfect title for this debut album, then. "It's the perfect title for me," Stefanie adds. "It's a ball of emotions, ready to burst with frustration and anger. But also with tons of energy, love... everything at once." Trouble comes in threes... and so does Brutus.

Burst will be available digitally worldwide on May 12th, 2017 and physically on June 30th, 2017 via Sargent House. Pre-orders for LP/CD via HelloMerch and download via iTunes

Brown Acid: The Fourth Trip compilation streaming ahead of release at Dangerous Minds

"A great distillation of what the underground was capable of back in the day, and still feels as fresh and poignant now." -- Clrvynt

The forthcoming edition of the popular compilation series of long-lost vintage 60s-70s proto-metal and stoner rock singles, Brown Acid: The Fourth Trip, is streaming in full beginning today at Dangerous Minds. The album, curated by L.A. label RidingEasy Records and retailer/label Permanent Records, is available to hear and share HERE. (Direct Soundcloud.)

Brown Acid: The Fourth Trip continues the epic collection of rarities and hits streets on April 20th. Brooklyn Vegan previously shared Kanaan's "Leave It" HERE. Clrvynt showcased the previously unreleased single by series standouts Zekes HERE

About Brown Acid: The Fourth Trip:

If you thought we were getting close to the end of the Brown Acid series with our last Trip, you were dead wrong...we’re only just getting rolling. The well of privately released hard rock, heavy psych, and proto-metal 45s is deep and we are nowhere near tapped out. Most of these records were barely released and never properly distributed so they ain’t easy to find, but they’re out there if you’re willing to dig...and we aren’t afraid to get our hands dirty. Hard calluses have formed from handling the shovel and we’ve sifted through a lot of dirt, but we’ve dug up another ten tremendous records to share with all the heavy heads out there. This volume brings together eight insanely rare and skull-crushingly heavy 45s as well as two previously unreleased bangers.

You may remember the Zekes’ jaw dropper “Box” from the First Trip. If you don’t, you better go back and refresh your memory, you stoner. That song rips! And so does this previously unheard recording we legally obtained from the Beverly Hills records vaults. “Comin' Back” is the longest tune we’ve yet to include on this series and it’s a full-on rager! The only surviving copy of this recording came to us on the original 1/4” master tape from Hollywood’s long-defunct Demars & Duffy Music. We did our best to preserve the recording and we think you’ll appreciate the rawness.

There have been numerous groups named Bad Axe over the years, but the one you hear here is the baddest. This five-piece fresh outta high school kicked out this jam (and a few others) in a Chicago studio in 1973 just for the hell of it. As a garage band, they were previously named The Burlington Express and they went on to be known as Bitch, but these dudes hit their stride as Bad Axe and “Coachman” is their crowning achievement. It went completely unreleased until 2014 when Permanent Records issued it and “Poor Man, Run” as a limited edition 45 with a killer picture sleeve. It’s long out-of-print and only obtainable now on Brown Acid.

The rest of the records included on this volume vary in rarity, but at least two of them were virtually unknown until we discovered them.  You’ll win the lottery before you find copies of all of the original 45s in even the best record stores.  Many of the records included in this volume are owned only by the members of the bands and some of the band members don’t even have personal copies.  That’s just how hard these guys hit it back in the day!  We’re lucky some of these guys are still alive and well enough to give us permission to use their masters.

About the Brown Acid series:

Some of the best thrills of the Internet music revolution is the ability to find extremely rare music with great ease. But even with such vast archives to draw from, quite a lot of great songs have gone undiscovered for nearly half a century -- particularly in genres that lacked hifalutin arty pretense. Previously, only the most extremely dedicated and passionate record collectors had the stamina and prowess to hunt down long forgotten wonders in dusty record bins - often hoarding them in private collections, or selling at ridiculous collector's prices. Legendary compilations like Nuggets, Pebbles, ad nauseum, have exhausted the mines of early garage rock and proto-punk, keeping alive a large cross-section of underground ephemera. However, few have delved into and expertly archived the wealth of proto-metal, pre-stoner rock tracks collected on Brown Acid: The Fourth Trip

Lance Barresi, co-owner of L.A./Chicago retailer Permanent Records has shown incredible persistence in tracking down a stellar collection of rare singles from the 60s and 70s for the growing compilation series. Partnered with Daniel Hall of RidingEasy Records, the two have assembled a selection of songs that's hard to believe have remained unheard for so long.

"I essentially go through hell and high water just to find these records," Barresi says. "Once I find a record worthy of tracking, I begin the (sometimes) extremely arduous process of contacting the band members and encouraging them to take part. Daniel and I agree that licensing all the tracks we're using for Brown Acid is best for everyone involved," rather than simply bootlegging the tracks. When all of the bands and labels haven't existed for 30-40 years or more, tracking down the creators gives all of these tunes a real second chance at success.

"There's a long list of songs that we'd love to include," Barresi says. "But we just can't track the bands down. I like the idea that Brown Acid is getting so much attention, so people might reach out to us."

Brown Acid: The Fourth Trip will be available everywhere on LP, CD and download on April 20th, 2017 via RidingEasy Records. Pre-orders are available for digital (with immediate download of the first single) at Bandcamp, physical pre-orders at RidingEasy Records
