Milemarker premiere unreleased track from forthcoming reissue at Brooklyn Vegan, new album & U.S. tour in August

"While 'Carrboro' shows that Milemarker hasn’t lost its ability to drape new wave flourishes atop its post-hardcore attack, it’s clearly approaching its new album with its eyes on the future instead of the past." -- The AV Club

Reunited 90s-00s synth punk band Milemarker premiere an unreleased track from the forthcoming reissue of their landmark Y2K album Frigid Forms Sell (Jade Tree/Lovitt) today via Brooklyn Vegan. The reissue is the album's first time on vinyl in 16 years, and includes 7 unreleased tracks. The song "Industry For the Blind (demo)" is available to hear and share HERE. (Direct Soundcloud).

The Onion AV Club previously shared the first track from Milemarker's upcoming NEW full length, Overseas which comes out on August 26th via Lovitt Records. Hear & share the first taste, "Carrboro" HERE. (Direct Soundcloud).

The band embarks on their first U.S. tour since 2008 this August, including performing at the Wrecking Ball ATL festival in Atlanta, GA. Please see all dates below.

Formed 1997 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina by Al Burian, Dave Laney and Ben Davis, Milemarker quickly gained recognition in the independent music scene for their explosive live shows and adventurous instrumentation. The band became known for its combination of post-hardcore punk with new wave electronics, and found a solid touring line-up 1999-2004 in Burian, Laney and singer/synth player Roby Newton.

Milemarker played nearly 1000 shows in support of their releases Frigid Forms Sell (Lovitt, 2000) and Anaesthetic (Jade Tree, 2001), touring extensively in North America, Europe and Japan, along the way sharing the stage with bands such as Wire, Mission of Burma, At The Drive-In, The Hives, Thursday, Blood Brothers, International Noise Conspiracy, High On Fire, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Muff Potter, Cave In, Les Savy Fav, Spoon, Monochrome, Turbostaat, The Faint, The Locust, and Hot Snakes.
.
Milemarker added double drummers Tony Lazzara and Noah Leger as well as string arrangements from siblings Beth and Tim Remis for the recording and US tour around Ominosity (Eyeball, 2005). In 2008 the band completed a US and European tour with founding member Ben Davis, including performances at the SXSW and Fusion festivals.
.
In 2009, guitarist Dave Laney moved to Hamburg and focused his musical energy into the band Auxes, while bassist Al Burian moved to Berlin to pursue literary and journalistic interests. A re-ignition of the band on German soil seemed inevitable. Milemarker returned to the stage in 2015 with Lena Kilkka on keys and vocals and Ezra Cale on drums.

On June 24th, 2016, Lovitt Records reissues Frigid Forms Sell, the band's third album on vinyl for the first time in 16 years. The digital edition includes demo versions of select album tracks as well. (Pre-order HERE.)

The band's new album, Overseas will be available on LP and download via Lovitt Records on August 26th, 2016.

Tsyphur Zalan share dark electronic new track

Ghost Against Ghost composer Christopher Bono's experimental project also recently shared video via Vice's Creators Project

Tsyphur Zalan, the experimental, electronic side project of Ghost Against Ghost frontman and composer Christopher Bono, premieres a hypnotizing new single entitled "The Spectacle is the Theater of the Sublime" today via Echoes and Dust. Hear and share the track HERE. (Direct Soundcloud.)

Vice's The Creator's Project previously launched the video for Tsyphur Zalan track "Dobryy Vechir", which is directed by Tobias Stretch (Radiohead, August Burns Red) and available to watch and share HERE. (Direct YouTube HERE.)

It's hard to pinpoint the origins of Bono's influences. One can definitely hear moments of various genres including Trap (electronic), Industrial, and Black Metal in "The Spectacle is the Theater of the Sublime"; However, for a prolific composer who is known for his orchestral music, choral music and arty-progressive post rock, it's no surprise to hear him experimenting with new, fringe genres and writing. For anyone interested in hearing a young composer using new production techniques and to explore new sound worlds, both light and dark, "Spectacle" does not disappoint.

Hear and share the debut Tsyphur Zalan album Sink. in its entirety via Soundcloud HERE.

Bono also draws from his neoclassical background as a composer and producer to create the enveloping soundscape that is Ghost Against Ghost. The band features drummer Thomas Pridgen (The Mars Volta, Trash Talk) and guitarist Anthony Molina (Mercury Rev) along with various other musicians.

BORIS share unreleased track from 10th anniversary Pink album deluxe reissue via NPR, U.S. tour 'Boris performing Pink' in July

Japanese trio Boris premiere an unreleased track from the 10th anniversary deluxe reissue of Pink today via NPR. Hear and share "SOFUN" HERE. (Direct Soundcloud).

Boris will launch a full North American headlining tour in July in which they will perform Pink in its entirety. The band's new Sargent House labelmates Earth will play all dates except two in Canada. Please see complete dates below.

Pitchfork previously announced the deluxe edition release with the premiere of "Are You Ready?" HERE. (Soundcloud).

Pink, the landmark 2006 album by Boris, which earned widespread critical praise -- including Pitchfork's Top 10 Albums of 2006 -- will be reissued in a deluxe edition this summer to commemorate the album's 10th anniversary.

The deluxe 3xLP box set and 2xCD features an entire album of previously unreleased tracks recorded during the Pink album sessions in 2004-2005. The bonus Forbidden Songs collects 9 tracks of the same hyperactive, accessible and aggressive caliber of the original album, available here for the first time, mixed (with additional editing and arrangement) in 2015 and mastered in January 2016. Like the original U.S. vinyl release, the Pink (Deluxe Edition) LP set has three longer edits of songs that were truncated on the original CD issue ("Farewell", "Pseudo-Bread" and "My Machine"). Otherwise, both the LP and CD versions have the same audio as the 2006 release. And, Pink (Deluxe Edition) also features the artwork of the original Japanese release, made by the band members themselves.

In 2006, Pink was Boris' 10th album and a major breakthrough that earned new fans outside of the underground metal community -- the track "Farewell" was even featured in Jim Jarmusch's classic film The Limits of Control. The album landed on countless "best of the year" lists from underground metal sites to mainstream rock magazines. And the praise was certainly well deserved for its more accessible sound and explorations into shoegaze and ambient structures alongside brutal noise, searing psychedelia and apocalyptic doom.

Pink succeeds at what most bands cannot do: swiftly changing styles from song to song, while always sounding distinctly like themselves. The seamless, explosive set of fan favorites from the classic longtime lineup of drummer/vocalist Atsuo, guitarist/vocalist Wata and bassist/guitarist/vocalist Takeshi still sounds as mindblowing as it did a decade ago. And, Forbidden Songs continues with the same unbridled creativity and ferocity. These songs aren't outliers, they're rather more like the director's cut version of the original album.

Boris is now in their 24th year as a band -- 20 years in the classic trio lineup -- and showing no signs of slowing down. They have always demolished expectations of what a band can do musically and aesthetically. And in looking back with Pink (Deluxe Edition), the band's trajectory as experimenters and innovators over subsequent releases becomes even clearer.

Pink (Deluxe Edition) will be available everywhere (excluding Japan) on July 8th on 3xLP box set, 2xCD and download via Sargent House. iTunes pre-orders include a free immediate download of "Are You Ready?" HERE, 3xLP box set and 2xCD are available for pre-order via Hello Merch

Monolord premiere track from forthcoming 10" EP, headlining North American tour starts in August

Swedish trio Monolord premiere the first track off their new 2-song 10" EP today via MetalSucks. Hear and share the epic "Lord of Suffering" HERE. (Direct Soundcloud and YouTube.)

Monolord kick off their first ever North American headlining tour this August. The band won many new fans last fall supporting Windhand and RidingEasy Records labelmates Danava, and now return to headline with support from Beastmaker (Rise Above Records) and Sweat Lodge (Brutal Panda). Please see complete dates below.

Monolord's forthcoming EP will be available August 12th on 10" vinyl and download via RidingEasy Records

Vænir, the band's widely-praised and Best Album of 2015 list topping release is available to hear and share via Soundcloud and Bandcamp

Metal Sucks hailed Monolord's Vænir as, "far and away one of my favorite doom releases of 2015 so far, possibly even of the past few years. There's just something about the way these guys construct riffs that sets them apart from the pack, and the production style they've chosen -- clear and concise, but still massively powerful and raw in tone -- perfectly underscores what they're doing."

Noisey calls it, "a sludge-doom offering with guitars like chainsaws, bringing to mind Matt Pike's epic tone on The Art of Self-Defense. The massive, ten-ton brick of a record relies on a blues groove though, and not long-stroke, droning nonsense. Heavily treated melodic vocals bring to mind Ozzy during 'Planet Caravan,' and add to the mysticism and darkness surrounding the release. This is one massive record."

"Typical of Monolord," says Consequence of Sound, "the vocals are dreamy and ethereal, only here they're placed up front, with the chorus even touting a catchy melodic hook. It's a truly modern sound: recognizably doom, but with the glistening production values of Sigur Ros and adventurous songcraft of Rush."

RidingEasy Records news: June 'Potcast' w/ guest Brant Bjork (Kyuss) + new tracks & tour dates

Southern California label RidingEasy Records share a special edition of their monthly Potcast series today featuring special guest Brant Bjork (Kyuss, Fu Manchu, Vista Chino). RidingEasy describes it:

"This month's POTCAST is so smoked out it should be illegal, 2.5 hours of mind melting good ol' rock n roll. We also get blessed with an hour long DJ set from Brant Bjork and get to talk about his favorite kind of weed and drum breaks as well as what he's been up to as of late." Hear and share HERE. (Full playlist at the link.)

There's also newly announced U.S. tour dates for Swedish doom behemoths Monolord (as well as new 2-song 10") and Bay Area heavy psych/Krautrock quartet Mondo Drag. See all current tour dates below.

It's equal parts of The CrampsPsychedelic JunglePentagram's RelentlessRoky Erickson's The Evil One and The Stooges Raw Power, as much heirs to Deep Purple as Dead Moon... metal, garage punk, acid rock and a belladonna trip gone wrong. Soak up the album opener, "Tranny Takes a Trip" ( CvltNation) (Soundcloud).

3) Svvamp are exciting yet unassuming new signees from Sweden capturing the true primordial beauty of homespun rock, folk and blues that conjures hints of Cream, Eric Bell-era Thin LizzyCCR and Crazy Horse. Hear & share lead single "Burning Down" (YouTube).

Mondo Drag announce L.A. residency in August, plus Psycho Las Vegas fest

Bay Area heavy-Krautrock-psych band Mondo Drag announce their residency throughout August at Los Angeles' popular live venue The Echo. The band will be joined on two shows by RidingEasy Records labelmates Slow Season, as well as new signees Jesus Sons. Please see all dates below.

Mondo Drag's recently released album, The Occultation of Light has been hailed as one of the Top 10 Metal Albums of 2016 by Consequence of Sound HERE. Metal Hammer rates it 4/5 stars, calling it a "mind-opening, progressive psych sojourn." The Occultation of Light is available to stream and share via Soundcloud and YouTube

Most of The Occultation of Light was recorded live, tracked and mixed on analog tape by Phil Manley (Trans Am, The Fucking Champs) at El Studio in San Francisco. Mondo Drag had just come off the road after a month out with labelmates Electric Citizen and Slow Season, and their stage-honed, hard-won chemistry bleeds into every second of the record. Songs are warm, psychedelic and grooving, but have a poise born out of classic prog as well. And as much as their new Bay Area home is a factor, that just wouldn't be possible without the road time.

The Occultation of Light is available on LP, CD and download via RidingEasy Records as of February 26th, 2016.
