Lost late 90s NYC "Moth" trio THE SPELLS to release debut LP nearly 30 years after recording, in-depth interview out now

The Night Has Eyes sounds as young and wild as we might on the good (or bad) days, and well (well, well, well) worth the wait.” -- Zach Lipez, CREEM Magazine

"You can hear their ragged punk roots, haunted melodies and flashes of PJ Harvey's sonic influence. Filled with jagged and beautiful songs... emerges like the glorious ghost of the underground." -- Psychedelic Baby

Long lost NYC trio The Spells announce the long-overdue release of their 1997 debut album The Night Has Eyes in a deluxe LP & 16-page booklet package via Garganta Press. The album was shelved shortly after recording when the band dissolved, but its legend grew over time -- Zachary Lipez of CREEM Magazine offers this excellent essay about the band and fertile scene of the era (which he also profiled in a feature on the 90s mod/goth sub-subculture he terms "Moths.")

All 3 members of The Spells detail their story today in an in-depth interview with It's Psychedelic Baby Magazine HERE

The Spells were Nicole Barrick (guitar, vocals), Marisa Pool (bass, vocals), Leni Zumas (drums). Rising from the ashes of a previous incarnation called The Read Scare, The Spells formed in Austin, TX in 1995, and broke up in New York City in 1998. A dark gem from the NYC 90's underground, the unreleased album The Night Has Eyes, produced in November 1997 by Greg Talenfeld at Waterworks, NYC, will debut on vinyl in 2025 via Garganta Press.

For the first time on vinyl, a lost gem of 90's garage punk for the darkly inclined. Recorded in 1997 by Greg Talenfeld (Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Pavement, The Walkmen) and never released, The Night Has Eyes is a hidden treasure unearthed from the fertile end-of-the-century NYC underground scene. The record comes with a 16-page booklet with never-seen-before pictures of the band shot in 1997 and 1998 by Nick Zinner (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Iggy Pop) and Lilian Lee.

Recorded and mixed by Greg Talenfeld at Waterworks, NYC in November 1997

Produced by Greg Talenfeld and The Spells

Mastered for LP by Honza Kapak at Hellsound Studio, Czech Republic, January 2025

37 HOUSES share "Jealous Love" EP, SF based classic 90s Indie Rock

“Packed with bright, jangly guitars and powerful, resounding vocals.” — New Noise

“Moody ear-candy…Another great record from a local band in our midst proves pain begets the most vivid art.” – SF Bay Guardian / 48 Hills

"Moody... It builds and builds in intensity." -- TGEFM

"A candid exploration of love, regret, and personal growth wrapped in a melody that feels both relatable and raw." -- Static Multimedia

"Poignant, melodic indie rock in the key of mid-90s Matador Records. Fans of Helium and Bettie Serveert alike should check it out." -- Rock and Roll Globe

“Jeremy’s songwriting unfolds like a series of poetic Polaroids, while Erin’s vocals tear through them with emotion…It’s a vulnerable, beautiful mess and we’re all invited in.” — It’s Psychedelic Baby!

San Francisco duo 37 Houses share a new 5-song EP today, showcasing the band's updated and energetic live lineup. The lead track "Jealous Love" premiered earlier via Psychedelic Baby Magazine HERE and is now available on all DSPs HERE

Watch the official video for the original album version of "Jealous Love" on YouTube. Watch/share the video for "It Stays With Me" on YouTube.

Started in San Francisco in 2024, 37 Houses is an indie pop project that sublimates pain into creation. Singer Erin Sydney infuses powerful vocals into the poetically pedestrian lyrics and music written by her husband, Jeremy Rosenblum. Made up of long-standing musicians, 37 Houses is a creative family that channels their energy into wall-of-sound performances that create palpable impact. Above all, 37 Houses is what that beautiful mess sounds like.

While the music is lithe and hummable, Erin’s powerhouse singing takes their sound into the stratosphere. Their work is proof positive that pain can create immense beauty.

37 Houses debut album is available on deluxe 2xLP and digital, released on February 14th, 2025. Vinyl orders are available HERE

Popular YouTube reviewer Ohrion Reacts premiered the track on his channel HERE.

Thrillrot is a two-piece metal band from Denver, Colorado known for their hard-hitting and energetic sound. The duo blends thunderous drums, blistering guitars and seething vocals into a powerful assault -- raw intensity without apology. Every show, the band aims to deliver aggression you can bank on, with the visceral nature of the genre always at the forefront.

Thrillrot’s debut full-length is a brutal, unrelenting meditation on collapse -- of self, of city, of spirit. Drawing influence from Peter Wessel Zapffe’s dark essay The Last Messiah, the record channels generational trauma, economic despair and existential rot into a vicious, reflective sound. Across twelve tracks, the band tackles themes of identity, violence, memory and torment with lyrical sharpness and sonic weight. Each song is a wound, self-inflicted and wide open. This is not just a gut punch, it’s a full fledged five knuckle shuffle. Welcome to a New Breed of Hopelessness.

Thrillrot will be available on Limited Edition LP and download on October 17, 2025 via Lost Future Records. Pre-orders are available HERE
