Austin trio Rickshaw Billie's Burger Patrol announce additional US tour dates this Fall supporting the reunited The Sword. The dates start in August, and cover the entire US. “Our catalog has never been short on big dumb riffs, but the idea on this record was to really turn the screw,” says RBBP bassist Aaron Metzdorf. On Big Dumb Riffs, that screw is cranked incredibly tight. 

“We just wanted ‘the part’: The opening of Pantera’s ‘Primal Concrete Sledge’, the breakdown in Primus' ‘Pudding Time’ — the shit that makes you move and lose your mind. Just that part the whole time.”

Across 11 concise, taut songs — most clocking in around 2 minutes or less — Rickshaw Billie’s Burger Patrol demonstrates their skillful ability to blend the merciless low end of Leo Lydon’s 8-string guitar, Aaron Metzdorf’s masterful chordwork on the bass, and Sean St.Germain’s driving drumming. 

Hot on the heels of their breakout 5th studio release Doom Wop (2023), Rickshaw Billie’s Burger Patrol returns with Big Dumb Riffs: A whole new variant of the fuzzed out, overdriven, melodic, groovy music they have been making since 2016. While Big Dumb Riffs is decidedly more aggressive and rhythmic, it still retains the overtly melodic feel of Doom Wop. But Leo Lydon’s vocals are considerably more angry and negative. 

“The whole writing process was, ‘what if we just played two notes the whole song’,” Metzdorf says. “‘What if we tuned down to almost unusable string tension?’, ‘what if we write a record that will make everyone say 'wow that is dumb’? Leo and I really move around on stage a lot. Being a dingus is crucial to the groove. All these riffs were designed to allow us to act bigger and dumber on stage.”

Harrisburg, PA quintet The Depth Beneath Us share a new single off their forthcoming sophomore album Descent today, releasing the single on all platforms and the official video alongside an interview with Metal Epidemic. Atmosphere and layering are the cornerstone of Pennsylvania's post-rock maximalists The Depth Beneath Us. Particularly on their forthcoming sophomore album Descent, the quintet finds captivating new ways to build symphonic guitar layers, vaguely reminiscent of how U2’s Joshua Tree created wide open, soaring sonic spaces. But the band also deftly combines this with post-metal structures, progressive melodies and emotive songwriting to make sweeping songs that build truly orchestral passages and crescendos. 

Add to that Battles' dissection of electronic music, Russian Circles' dramatic metallic guitars, and punchy rhythms, and one can get a sense of this epic masterwork.

Descent is their new ten-song, 55-minute full length. From the pummeling opening riffs of “Trust Thermocline” to the time-twisting rhythms of the title track, it's clear that their increased ambition has paid dividends without compromising an ability to craft intricate and memorable songs.

The band reveals that the new sequence of material was carefully designed to illustrate a journey through the universal experience of conflict in its many forms. “Everywhere you look, there is a nearly unprecedented level of oppression and antagonism in the world now,” guitarist Matt Rockman reflects. “We tried to hold these experiences of conflict in mind while writing, whether societal, interpersonal, or romantic.”

Never content to remain in one mode for too long, the album also highlights how one tries to reconcile such pervasive conflict. “Some turn to diversions and distraction, others look to external adventures, and a few turn their focus inward towards meditation and reflection,” Rockman adds. The album concludes with a note of hope while remaining soberingly aware that regardless of how we navigate these challenges, people have historically been unable to put aside their differences for long.

Descent was recorded by Michael Washkevich at MDW Productions in Harrisburg, PA. The album was mixed by Steve Durose (Oceansize, Vennart, Amplifier). Frank Arkwright provided mastering at Abbey Road Studios.

Denver trio Moonpool share a new single today from their forthcoming EP. The track "Like You Do" launched earlier via Psychedelic Baby Magazine HERE. Hear and share "Like You Do" and more on all DSPs HERE. 

Moonpool is a Denver-based heavy shoegaze and grunge act fusing the rawness of post-punk with the crushing beauty of 90s alternative. With singer/guitarist Raymond Suny, guitarist Izaiah Miller and drummer Steven Hartman, the trio channels emotional intensity through walls of distortion, explosive rhythm, and haunting melody. Moonpool’s forthcoming release Syzygy is a twin-blade — two songs in spiritual and sonic alignment.

On “Like You Do,” the band confronts anima and shadow through a toxic-love-as-mirror narrative—equal parts Jungian and bleeding-heart. Its closing mantra, “I know, I know you wanted to,” echoes like a ghost in the gut. Companion track “Aim” is even heavier: a scorched-earth anthem of self-confrontation and spiritual reckoning, erupting into full-bodied tremolo and shoegaze intensity.

Both songs were written during moonpool’s own metamorphosis—grappling with identity, rebirth, and the sacred violence of change. Mixed and recorded in-house, with drums tracked by Colin Ingram, the tracks retain a DIY urgency even as they reach cinematic heights. The “Like You Do” video cuts between raw performance shots, a mimicking shadow and VHS detachment, reflecting the inner fragmentation at the heart of the songs.

The band’s previous EP Nothing Sacred cemented their sound within modern grungegaze. But Syzygy marks evolution—moonpool’s synthesis of intricate songwriting, guttural honesty, and arena-sized catharsis. There’s no medication like this.

Molly Horses share first single from forthcoming Solid Brass Records debut

 

Los Angeles band Molly Horses share the lead single today from their forthcoming Solid Brass Records debut. The track "BABBA" launched earlier via New Noise Magazine HERE. Hear and share "BABBA" on all DSPs HERE. 

Molly Horses are a post punk/noise rock band from Los Angeles who have been not so quietly picking up steam across the city’s punk underground. Maybe you saw them at Echo Park Rising in 2024, caught them at other local watering holes like Genghis Cohen, Non Plus Ultra or Redwood Bar, or maybe you heard about them via New Noise when they shared their single “King Dundalk” last year.

Singer/guitarist Harry James (they/them) and guitarist Cormac Shirer Brown had played together in previous bands in their hometown of Portland, Maine. James met drummer Tim Wright (ex: Ted Leo & The Pharmacists and founding member of Baltimore’s Wilderness) on film sets on the east coast before relocating to Los Angeles while Brown met bassist Malcolm Watts (also from Maine) while working together at a cocktail bar in Los Angeles. The four came together in the summer of 2023 to create something angular, noisy, desperate, and methodical. New Noise said they “wail like a police siren with Devo-esque snot-nosed sarcasm” and punksite.com says, “Molly Horses channels the raw urgency and chaos of four people transplanted from small town living and into the beating heart of the City of Angels.”

Drawing influence from the musical precision of Shellac, the DIY ethos of Minutemen, the biting lyricism of The Fall, and visceral discomfort of contemporaries Gilla Band, Molly Horses aims to set themselves apart from expectation. Having extensive backgrounds in sound and audio engineering, the band recorded their debut 6 song EP Clang Clang at their home studio, Train Song, in Los Angeles. 

Molly Horses has joined LA label Solid Brass Records to release Clang Clang and continue work on their forthcoming full length album. The band will celebrate the release of Clang Clang on Friday 7/25 with a Desert Daze sponsored Release Show at Gold Diggers with Guck (Three One G Records) and DJ Allison Wolfe (Bratmobile).
