CHERUBS share first track from forthcoming 'Short of Popular' album via Daily Dot

"Cherubs perfected something that broke free of the boundaries firmly set in place by the band’s chosen mini-movement: the noisiest pop music on the planet. Short of Popular was like a Singles Going Steady of noise rock-and was as crucial to the Cherubs' legacy as the proper album that preceded it." -- Pitchfork

Austin, TX trio Cherubs announce the first time ever on vinyl release of the collection of singles, outtakes and compilation tracks originally released on Trance Syndicate in 1996, titled Short of Popular. This release on Austin label Sonic Surgery Records (a division of Super Secret Records) is remastered with new art and pressed on beautiful 3-colored vinyl. Releases on October 12th.

The Daily Dot shares the first track from the album today, "Carjack Fairy" HERE. (Direct Soundcloud.)

"Perhaps ironically referring to the breakthrough that never quite occurred for Austin, TX, band the CherubsShort of Popular compiles the various singles, compilation tracks, rejected session pieces from Heroin Man, plus an assortment of other sonic odds and ends, and ties them neatly into this send-off album, indicating that the band's break-up was indeed an untimely one. Kevin Whitley's signature nasal vocals, barely audible over the distorted wash of bass and guitar, are like that of a small child attempting to be heard over a steamroller. Beyond the signature roar and wallop of the Cherubs' rhythm section, a noise rock staple, it was the particulars that truly mattered: the undeniable pop melodies articulated throughout the redlined volume, and yes, the oddball Butthole Surfer-isms found here and there. The cover of Blondie's "Dreaming" is rollicking fun. A fine send-off for a band that burned brightly for a few records, then shuffled off." -- All Music Guide.

Another critic observed of the Cherubs "Nobody has made music as loud, noisy and evil as the infernal racket they produced. (Forget death metal). This is pure, heavy, intense, in-the-red punk noise which will melt your face off. It's beautiful. Heroin Man is a classic, but the tracks on Short of Popular up the ante even further. One of the most vital underground bands of the 90s."

This 2018 reissue of Short of Popular is completely remastered with all new art designed by band member Kevin Whitley. Some selections from the original compact disc release have been removed to improve the overall energy and live within the constraints of the vinyl format. The overall sound has a fuller and warmer feel without losing the cutting impact of the Cherubs style of music.

The Cherubs have been actively playing live both in the states and in europe since 2014 following a long hiatus that saw the members follow other interest both musical (bass player Owen McMahon toured with the Butthole Surfers) and artistic.

Sonic Surgery Records is honored to bring back this amazing collection of Cherubs magic and share it with the whole wide world. Play it loud it'll never be as loud as the actual band)! Pre-orders are available via Sonic Surgery/Big Cartel

Satan's Satyrs share new track via Revolver Magazine, tour w/ Windhand in October

"Channels high-speed, denim and leather ’70s rock but gives it a slightly modern touch. You could imagine hearing it on the Dazed and Confused soundtrack just as easily as you could imagine hearing it on the radio next to Queens of the Stone Age." -- Brooklyn Vegan

"Rooted in a glammy early Seventies rock sound, 'She Beast' is the sort of head-nodding cut that you'd expect to hear blaring out of a muscle car, with a beautiful feathered-hair couple taking the front seats." -- Revolver

Richmond, VA quartet Satan's Satyrs premiere a new track from their forthcoming album The Lucky Ones today via Revolver Magazine. Hear and share "She Beast" HERE. (Direct YouTube.)

Satan's Satyrs hit the road in support of the album with doom faves Windhand in October. See all dates below.

Brooklyn Vegan recently shared album opener "Thrill of the City" HERE.

Upon recovering from being steamrolled over by the onslaught of Satan's Satyrs' new album The Lucky Ones, you'll likely wonder just what exactly it was that hit you. A punky, sleaze rock groove (perhaps even a whiff of 70s glam) meets NWOBHM melodic fury, Blue Cheer mass and volume, and Ozzy's dramatic charisma condensed into a sound all its own, perhaps. At its core is an unstoppable, unpretentious exorcism of rock'n'roll exuberance.

"It doesn't sound like anything else happening right now," says bassist/vocalist Clayton Burgess, who has spent the last few years splitting his time in British doom heroes Electric Wizard. "The band has its own unique idiosyncratic sound."

A significant difference on this album is the addition of second guitarist Nate Towle, which expands the band's steamrolling capacity tenfold. Burgess, Towle, guitarist Jarrett Nettnin and drummer Stephen Fairfield convened at the Richmond, VA studio of Windhand guitarist Garrett Morris, working in fits and starts over several months, first quickly capturing the raw energy of a band firing on all cylinders, then fine tuning the sounds and experimenting to get everything as massive as you hear it now. Likewise, Burgess' lyrics show new levels of achievement.

"I pushed myself to get more of my own life in the songs, but open enough that anyone can interpret them in their own way," he says. "I just wanted to capture weirdness. It reflects my unusual tastes, but also takes a personal perspective."

The twin guitar assault begins from the very first beat of The Lucky Ones and never relents until the last second of the 9-track, 35-minute album. Opener "Thrill of the City" wastes no time launching into soaring harmonized riffs and swaggering rhythms setting the scene for a debauched good time. The title track, perhaps the most personal song on the album, is also the most unabashedly melodic. "Too Early To Fold" captures the frustrations and challenges of life as a touring musician, expressed through a belligerent 2-guitar attack and pounding snare on all 4 downbeats driving it all home. "Trampled By Angels" pits a swinging T Rex vibe against dizzy, noisy guitars and lyrics about a pioneer of fetish photography using his medium to express forbidden desires to the world. Likewise, The Lucky Ones itself is a vibrant, brash and loud expression of defiance against convention that refuses to be ignored.

The Lucky Ones will be available on LP, CD and download on October 19th, 2018 on Bad Omen Records, manufactured and distributed in North America by RidingEasy Records. Pre-orders are available HERE

Formed in 2014, Fuzz Evil is a chug-heavy trio that tames the fuzziest guitar and bass tones on the planet and wields them to blast a monolithic speaker-ripping fuzzapocaplyse for your ears and soul. In 2016 they followed up the single with a self-titled full length debut, also on Battleground.

Dunbarrow streaming forthcoming sophomore RidingEasy album ahead of release

"Proto-doom at its best! Fuzz pedals are absent and the guitars are driven by a warm tube amp drive." -- More Fuzz

"I really can't rave enough about how great this album is."-- Doomed and Stoned

"The Trondheim-based outfit are in the process of carving out their own niche aesthetically, and they're doing so with the sharpest of teeth." -- The Obelisk

Norwegian quintet Dunbarrow are streaming their forthcoming sophomore album on RidingEasy Records in full ahead of release starting today via More Fuzz HERE (in EU & Scandinavia) and Metal Assault HERE (North America.) Hear and share Dunbarrow II via YouTube

Doomed & Stoned recently hosted "On This Night" HERECvltNation premiered the killer hook of "On Your Trail" HERE. And, The Obelisk shared "The Wolf" HERE.

There's a hauntingly classic feel to Dunbarrow's sound that gives it, in the band's own words, "an eerie rawness." It's not raw in a lo-fi or distorted sense -- far from it, the production is exceptionally clean and powerful. It's the vibe to the music that has a dreamlike and ghostly quality, like a mysterious recording imprinted onto an old cassette tape.

Dunbarrow's pristine, unadorned sound shares the unpretentious brilliance of classic heavy progenitors jamming in basements and barns, before the big budgets and bloated habits diluted hard rock records into an echo chamber awash in reverb and layered in distant, screeching hobbits. "It's a heavy sounding record without being just tons of over-distorted guitar tracks," says guitarist Kenneth Lønning. "We've never been fascinated by that, and we're trying to push in the other direction." Its heft comes from the band's use of space in their songs.

Without the Haugesund, Norway quintet's exceptional musicianship, such an intimate sound would be impossible. Drummer PÃ¥l Gunnar Dale sets the skeletal core with driving urgency and tastefully punctuating triplet fills, Bassist Sondre Berge Engedal slinks throughout with the limber bounce of John Paul Jones, while Lønning's and Eirik ØvregÃ¥rd's guitars weave dark, bluesy tapestries with emphasis on melodic chord structures without burying them in distortion or other effects. Vocalist Espen Andersen ties it all together with his warm, folky delivery that gives it all the feel of a bygone era of storytelling in song.

"Maybe more than the previous record, this one is more vocal driven," Lønning says. "But it still has those quirky transitions, eerie build ups, folk-inspired parts and the haunting solos." Many of the album's poetic lyrics were written by former bassist/vocalist Richard Chappell, whose writing personifies the group. Along with the album's running theme of love and despair, is that of recognizing one's own dark sides and developing your shadows into something you can control, inspired of the work by Carl Jung.

Key to the band's impressive sound is that the singer is also the recording and mixing engineer. Andersen also recorded the band's excellent 2016 debut (formally released wordlwide by RidingEasy in late 2017), now with more studio experience for both Andersen and the band, Dunbarrow II is a truly refined experience. To further perfect their sound, the group teamed up with one of the most prominent producers in Norway, Christer Cederberg (Anathema, Tristania) for the first few days in order to get the sound just right. Then, Espen did the rest. The result is as eponymous and definitive as its title.

Dunbarrow II will be available on LP, CD and download on September 14th, 2018 via RidingEasy Records. Pre-orders are available HERE

Electric Citizen share new track from forthcoming RidingEasy Records album Helltown

"Going from one riff-filled masterpiece to the next, Electric Citizen go well beyond anything that they accomplished with 2014's Sateen. The band is coming into their own, and they know it." -- Metal Injection

"I like the fact that, four years and three records into their tenure as a band, I have no idea what to expect from them next. Other than songwriting. Helltown very much seems to be marking a new level for Electric Citizen, and they emerge stronger than ever and at their most vital." -- The Obelisk

"With songs this good, they deserve to blow up." -- Consequence of Sound

Electric Citizen share another new track from their forthcoming third album Helltown (RidingEasy Records) today ahead of its September 28th release. Hear and share "New Earth" via YouTube

The band also recently announced North American tour dates supporting heavy psych favorites Monster Magnet this Fall. Please see complete dates below.

Metal Injection previously hosted lead single "Hide It In The Night" HERE. (Direct YouTube.) The Obelisk shared second single "Lunch" HERE. (YouTube.)

Helltown, the forthcoming third album by Electric Citizen is, in many ways, a homecoming.

While the title may seem fittingly metal (if not exceedingly so), it actually has real relevance. Helltown (all one word), while also multidimensional, is named after the Cincinnati, OH neighborhood in which the band lives, practices, and where the album was written, recorded and mixed. Now known more prosaically as Northside, Helltown earned its name in the 1800s due to its reputation for rowdy taverns frequented by the neighborhood of factory workers and immigrants.

Inasmuch as Helltown is an ode to the band's home and its buried past, it also represents a return to the grittier sound of their 2014 debut, Sateen. Furthermore, it marks the return of original bassist Nick Vogelpohl, who rejoins vocalist Laura Dolan, guitarist Ross Dolan and drummer Nate Wagner. It's a fun, tough, dirty rock n' roll album.

"In many ways this album is a realignment to the first," Laura says. "We experimented a lot on the second album, some of which we learned we didn't like." Electric Citizen's 2016 album Higher Time was an expansive and somewhat cleaner effort mixed by Black Keys engineer Collin Dupuis at Easy Eye in Nashville, TN. It was a landmark moment for the band earning considerable press praise - Consequence of Sound named it in the 20 Most Anticipated Albums of 2016 with "the most breakout potential of all the young bands on this list." And, the band's endless touring since the first album earned them stints opening for acts like Pentagram, The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Fu Manchu, Budos Band, Wolfmother and playing renowned festivals like Psycho Las Vegas, Psycho California and Desert Fest Belgium.

What sets Electric Citizen apart from contemporary heavy counterparts is their song writing. The band writes concise, 3-minute, heavy rock songs. While others might now be following suit, when they started, most bands of their ilk were content writing drawn-out slow doom dirges. Regardless, none can deliver quite like Electric Citizen: Laura's captivating star-power, Ross' perfect tone and riffs, Nate's pugilistic and swinging beats, glued together by Nick's gliding bass lines.

"Heart Attack" opens the album with a furious galloping rhythm, crunching guitar with a monolithic scooped midrange tone and Laura's signature wail, double-tracked to create a haunting effect. From the first 10 seconds, you'll be headbanging ferociously, ecstatic to have Electric Citizen back, and back to basics. "Ripper" is exactly that, a shredding 3-minute ripper, "The Pawn" boasts subtle pop hooks deftly tucked into a bashing tune. "New Earth" shows why the band continues to garner high praise for Laura's dramatic vocals and the band's skill at penning bonafide songs, rather than just a collection of riffs.

Helltown will be available on LP, CD and download on September 28th, 2018 via RidingEasy Records. Pre-orders are available HERE

New York City rock 'n' roll sextet Mick's Jaguar share the official video for "Blood On The Snow" today from their recently released debut on RidingEasy Records. Watch & share the video, directed by NYC based artist Josh Slater, HERE.

Mick's Jaguar also announce their Escape From New York tour (a reference to John Carpenter's 1981 cult classic film) today, which kicks off on October 25th. Please see current dates below.

Hear and share the band's new album Fame and Fortune via Bandcamp and YouTube.

Rock and roll is dead in New York City. Long live New York City rock and roll. Mick's Jaguar is bringing noisy, wild, unafraid big rock back to NYC. Crazy rents, corporatized venues, and kids listening to DJ's: it's hard being a band in this town.

This isn't LA and Mick's Jaguar is a product of their environment: a windowless dungeon practice space 20 feet below the trash covered sidewalk of the Lower East Side. Rats, grime, the sounds of the city; Mick's Jaguar gleefully pillages the history of rock music to create thoroughly modern, but classic rock and roll. Not quite punk, but not metal either, this is hard rock and roll that's been put through the brain blenders of 6 musicians who pair their Judas Priest shirts with Steely Dan hats. They claim no musical lineage to New York - they just live there. If you need to compare them to something, the night AC/DC played CBGB's would be about as close as you can get.

The group formed as a drunken Rolling Stones cover band, and after a few years of mainlining Stones songs and playing sporadic shows marred by violence and sprayed by beer, they started writing originals that attracted the attention of RidingEasy Records. And their new album, Fame and Fortune, sounds absolutely nothing like the Stones. The three guitarists -- yes three guitars -- open the album with a riff of buzzsaw intensity that would make a Ramone proud. But then like Jim Morrison sashaying into a wine shop, it drunkenly careens into a big sounding rock and roll album somewhere in between Van Halen and Tres Hombres. Guitar solos abound, Thin Lizzy harmonies soar, the bass and drums make a groove that will shake the asses on the dance floor and put a rumble in your loins. Songs about life, death, cars, blood, murder, sex, drugs and booze are the world of Mick's Jaguar. Don't forget - this is what rock and roll is all about. Listen close and you'll hear hat tips to your bands, Mick's Jag knows their history and likes to rip it apart.

Recorded in Brooklyn at Figure 8 Recording by engineering wizard Philip Weinrobe, and fueled by a steady diet of Allen's Coffee Brandy, the Fame And Fortune sessions resulted in only one hospital visit and it just might be your favorite album of 1978, 1988, or 2018. This is music that's made for listening to while driving fast in your car, and while relaxing at the local strip club. It's okay to have fun. Cute indie bands make everyone puke. That shit stops now. Let there be rock.

Fame and Fortune is available on LP, CD and download, released June 22nd, 2018 via RidingEasy Records. Orders are available at ridingeasyrecs.com
