High Desert Queen launch hilarious video & early album stream via Metal Sucks from forthcoming Magnetic Eye Records debut

“Brings hot-shit riffs and plenty enough for the whole class.” – The Obelisk

“Another must-have record from High Desert Queen who have earned their reputation as one of the most promising and essential acts to come out from the legendary Texan Desert/Stoner Rock scene.” – Outlaws of The Sun

“It’s just fun, thanks to the riffs, the groove, and the attitude that permeates the entire thing.” — Metal Sucks

Texas desert rockers HIGH DESERT QUEEN release a new video today via Metal Sucks for the title track from their forthcoming sophomore full-length Palm Reader, slated for release on May 31. Watch/share the funny, awkward video in which a fictional manager attempts to get the band in shape to the tune of "Palm Reader" HERE. (Direct YouTube.)

The video for lead single "Ancient Aliens" was released earlier this year via YouTube HERE. The “Ancient Aliens” video is a tongue-in-cheek take on John Carpenter’s 1988 cult movie “They Live” that illustrates the difficulties for musicians in dealing with shifty managers.

On further news, HIGH DESERT QUEEN is currently on tour promoting the album in the US, before heading to the EU this summer. Please see below for all currently confirmed shows.

Palm Reader will be available on vinyl in transparent green or marbled pink & black variants, digisleeve CD and download on May 31st via Magnetic Eye Records. Pre-order/pre-save HERE

HIGH DESERT QUEEN's sophomore full-length Palm Reader is bursting with raw energy and radiates the feeling of 666 diesel horses thundering loud. The album is crammed with cool vibes, ripping leads, and a ton of desert fuzz with a focus on great songs rather than trying to stay confined within a corral of a particular style.

This untamed attitude took its creative high energy source straight from touring. When the band from Texas returned home after six weeks traveling the roads of Europe with the legendary FATSO JETSON and watching them improvising jams every night, they had also taken notes. Although a bit worn from the road, HIGH DESERT QUEEN could hardly wait to start recording. Not focusing overly on how parts were played, allowing themselves imperfections, and ditching the click, the music started to flow like never before. In the very first studio session after the tour, three new songs emerged.

Working within a live framework and mindset, the band from Austin, Texas hit the jackpot and "Palm Reader" bears witness to that claim. In more than one way, HIGH DESERT QUEEN have always been a bit different and much more than 'another desert rock band'. Formed in Houston, Texas by singer Ryan Garney and guitarist Rusty Miller in 2019, the duo soon recruited drummer Phil Hook (MONTE LUNA) and relocated to Austin in 2020. With the addition of Rusty's daughter Morgan on bass, the band hit the ground running.

Hard work and their obviously burgeoning talent resulted in an fast rise for HIGH DESERT QUEEN, beginning with their first record deal arriving thanks in part to their being hand-picked by ZAKK SABBATH's Rob Blasko. Their debut full-length "Secrets of the Black Moon" arrived in 2021 and was immediately heaped with praise in the US and Europe, which kicked the doors open to touring and invitations to prestigious festivals both domestic and abroad. In March 2022, the Texans embarked on their first tour in support of SASQUATCH on the US West Coast. Only two months later, HIGH DESERT QUEEN hit the roads of Europe as a headliner in June 2022, with a return to the other side of the Atlantic with FATSO JETSON in 2023. Underlining the fast rise of this live monster, the newcomers were booked for Desertfest London (UK) and Berlin (DE) and the Truckfighters' Fuzz Festival (SE) among many others.

MoonKill's debut album out now

“Moonkill live somewhere in the world of darkened punk realms where all things Danzig are held sacred…There's something in the band that feels very much like you're driving West on I-10 in an old Cadillac with your hair blowing from beneath your cowboy hat...basically Danzig fronting Clutch.” — Austin Town Hall

"Everything you could possibly want from the darker side of punk." -- New Noise Magazine

"A cocktail of punk, hardcore and space rock making their own quintessential noise combo.” – Punktuation

Austin band MoonKill release their full length debut album today on all platforms. Hear/share the 10-song MoonKill album on Bandcamp and all DSPs.

MoonKill plays untethered Texas Punk. Inserting ambient spacey sounds & new-wave tension into a punk world that is difficult to pin down.

MoonKill materialized in a T-shirt factory, which doubled as an after-hours practice space, in Austin, TX. The quartet all connected for a random jam session in May 2022. The drummer was the lynchpin in a network of friends, which included a guitarist who lived in a trailer in his driveway at the time. The first session produced their initial song “Long Line to Hell'' and they have been growing their queue of Texas Punk songs ever since.

The band self-produced a 3 song EP, The Kong Sessions, in the loft of their friend’s screen-printing shop. After presenting it to producer/engineer Roky Moon (of American Sharks), he offered to produce their debut album, which was completed in February 2024. They played their first live show in Sept. 2023, to a packed house, and began a relentless live show schedule.

Since then, others have taken notice, including their growing fan base in and around Austin. Their EP gained notice from music critics, including Greg Kot, (Chicago Tribune) who featured “Dead Holiday” on his syndicated show, Sound Opinions.

MoonKill will be available to stream & download on May 24th. Order/save HERE.

Fever Moon (FVRMN) stream album early in in-depth interview

"Blazing title track... With the dream-pop of early Blondie as a base and crunchy, fuzzy punk guitars on top of that, 'Back to the Whip' has a rock edge tempered with a pop softness." -- New Noise Magazine

“A balance of both sincerity and a sick sense of humor.” — Ghettoblaster Magazine

Tokyo based punk band Fever Moon (now stylized as FVRMN) stream their forthcoming album early today alongside an in-depth interview with Psychedelic Baby Magazine. Bandleader, vocalist/guitarist Jay Holmes opens up about the cathartic album's creation after becoming sick and its impressive list of guest musicians, and you can hear the full album HERE

Stream the first 3 singles on Bandcamp and all DSPs HERE

The official video for the title track has already cleared 26.6k plays in two days! Watch it now on YouTube.

Many songwriters have unveiled their "pandemic albums" over the past few years and most of them carry the weight of isolation and yearning through soft quiet spaces away from society. When Tokyo-based songwriter Jay Holmes got sick, he bashed out nine tracks of heavy hefty songs that relied on a deep inner sense of musical drive and a wicked balance of both sincerity and a sick sense of humor.

Back To The Whip was meant to be a "one and done" kind of a raw slam punch to the guts; but once he got a few friends on board to help out, things began shaping up into a more refined type of beast with multiple layers that slowly began to expose themselves with each repeated listen.

Back To The Whip is FVRMN's fourth studio album (and the first under their new moniker as it was previously Fever Moon) and features a wide-ranging line up including:

Mike Watt (Minutemen, The Stooges, fIREHOSE)

Chris Broach (Braid)

Christian Madden (The Liam Gallagher Band)

and Motoharu Fukada (ex-member of Japan's wildly popular Soil & "Pimp" Sessions)

The album was mixed by Dan Konapka (OK GO)

Mastered at Chicago Mastering Service by Matthew Barnhart

Each special guest brings their own unique element to the album with main songwriter Jay and longtime friend Scott Lupton on guitar and drums, respectively. Ex-bandmate Michael Ulliman also added extra guitar and handled pre-production duties and after a fairly long and sometimes frustrating weight of time, the new album is finally set to be released on vinyl via Bifocal Media on May 24th, 2024. Fans of heavyweight hooks a la Dinosaur Jr, Superchunk, Husker Du, Leatherface should all rejoice as FVRMN's big wall of sound guitars create a dense blast of sound that match up perfectly with the fine-tuned razor-sharp art of true songcraft.

Jay Holmes has been actively making noise for a long time. The American-born, Tokyo resident was the lead singer and songwriter in the epic indie math rock band The Ladderback in the late 90's up until his overseas move in 2003 after the band ended a successful nine show tour of Japan. From then, Jay took time off from music to get centered in his new surroundings where he is currently a full-time artist and graphic designer who has created designs for Black Sabbath, Neil Young, Sebadoh, Babes In Toyland, The Dead Milkmen, Windhand, and many more.

Back To The Whip will be released digitally and as a Limited Edition LP on Red and Ultra Clear vinyl on May 24th via Bifocal Media. Pre-orders are available HERE
