Australia's Sleepmakeswaves release award-nominated album worldwide, stream full album with video teaser

Australian melodic instrumental rock quartet sleepmakeswaves release their acclaimed and unprecedentedly ARIA award nominated (Australia's equivalent of the Grammys) album worldwide today via England's Monotreme Records in an expanded deluxe edition. The entire album is available to share/stream HERE. Merch store for deluxe LPs, CDs and shirts HERE.

The band recently shared the first track and an album teaser video. Listen to "In Limbs and Joints" HERE and watch video HERE. Sleepmakeswaves are currently touring the UK and Europe with electronic-post-rock innovators 65Daysofstatic. Please see complete dates below.

The coup for a style of music so often marginalized to earn a level of mainstream respect highlights something truly important about this band: its music is so immersive, powerful and evocative that it, above all else, speaks to people on an individual level, beyond categorization.

The strength of great instrumental music is its ability to communicate without the traditional trappings of someone singing about specific emotions. The music itself touches each listener differently. And, as in the case of sleepmakeswaves, there is a symphonic transcendence to the band's sound that encompasses a wide variety of colors -- ranging from ambient soundscapes, to soaring melodic hooks and moments of dark, brooding intensity. There are electronic layers interwoven with slow-burning builds, churning metallic riffs segueing into beautifully lush melodies, wistful strings blossoming out of neo-folk marches. ...and so we destroyed everything encompasses so much more than is typical of the vast array of sounds to have become known as post-rock, ranging from Sigur Ros to Explosions In the Sky to Russian Circles to Caspian and beyond.

sleepmakeswaves first appeared on the global stage with their 2008 debut EP in today already walks tomorrow. Their current lineup of guitarist Jonathan Khor, guitarist Otto Wicks-Green, drummer Tim Adderley and bassist Alex Wilson have spent the better part of the past 2 years touring the world, including performances at SXSW, Dunk! Festival and touring alongside bands such as Karnivool, Boris,Tortoise and more. They have earned a devoted following around the world, for their innovative and expansive music, coupled with an electrifying live show that has seen them sell out venues across their homeland.

Now, Monotreme Records will bring the band's genre-shattering, listener-uniting sound to a wider audience with the worldwide release of ...and so we destroyed everything. The album will be available as a deluxe 2-CD edition including the 9-track bonus disc, ...and then they remixed everything, with album tracks remixed by 65daysofstatic, Kyson, and more, and also as a deluxe 180-gram double gatefold vinyl edition (in three different limited colored vinyl versions, all including a free album CD, a poster and a digital download coupon for the remix album). The album and remix disc will also be available to buy separately as downloads.

...and so we destroyed everything is available to destroy everything everywhere on September 24th, 2013 via Monotreme Records.

Zorch to be first band ever to play Flaming Lips' art space, tour with Tera Melos and Fang Island follows in October

"A maximal pop masterwork." -- SPIN

Austin, TX hyper-kinetic duo Zorch have been hand-picked by The Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne to be the first band ever to play the group's Oklahoma City art space, The Womb. Coyne's enthusiasm for Zorch spilled over to his Instagram account this week with several posts about the band. Zorch will perform a portion of Igor Stavinsky's The Firebird Suite in their set per Coyne's request.

Zorch also take to the road in October with label mates Tera Melos. Fang Island make it a full Sargent House party when they join the tour on a set of East Coast dates as well. Please see complete dates below.

SPIN recently streamed Zorch's entire debut album, titled Zzoorrcchh prior to its release in late July. Stream full album HERE. (Direct Soundcloud link HERE)

In fittingly maniacal Zorch style, the duo recently played a series of intimate southern house party shows, resulting in a wild video/photo/written tour diary by the band posted HERE

The debut full length by Austin duo Zorch is the end result of nearly 5-years worth of material carefully collected, then shredded, condensed and completely remolded into a solid whole. It sounds like two hyperactively creative minds finding ways to cleverly merge together effervescent synth blips, blue-eyed soul vocals, gang-chant backups, blurting EDM bass lines, frenetic drums, hazy psych-drone and even the proverbial kitchen sink taking leads here and there. Each song sounds like it could've been crafted out of samples from several different decades of pop culture history, though it's entirely the work of two exceptional musicians.

If Zzoorrcchh sounds like a photomosaic looks, it's because there is similarly a meticulously organized logic to it all. When Zac Traeger (keyboards, omnichord, vocals) and Shmu (drums, omnichord, vocals) first started playing together in 2008 while studying music in college in Boston, the pair would improvise and record many hours worth of ideas. Some of these songs are direct descendants of those jams; the duo picking out pieces of those recordings, re-organizing and reworking them multiple times and in various studio settings while also adding on and creating new ideas. Demo versions of some of the songs on this album were previously released, only to again be redone a couple of times over for the album. And, Zorch even previously offered up all of the basic audio tracks from early EPs for fans to remix their own versions. Not quite like George Lucas endlessly tinkering with Star Wars, but there's a similar conviction that the work of art is never necessarily finished.

Zzoorrcchh was released everywhere on CD, LP and download via Sargent House on July 23rd, 2013.

Dark synth-pop band Night Club debut "Strobe Light" video via Buzzbands.LA, upcoming SoCal dates

"Brooks and Kavanaugh wisely decide to focus on catchiness above all else, which pays huge dividends. These are monster hooks that are designed to invade brains and stay inside for a long time." -- Pop Matters

"Singer Emily Kavanaugh sounds quite like Kylie Minogue, and she definitely has that same kind of breathy-but-edgy sex appeal in her delivery. All these tracks are carnally charged paeans to lustful encounters in the dark corners of the club, where all the best action happens." -- Frontiers L.A.

L.A.'s sinful synth-pop band Night Club premiere the second video from their sophomore release Love Casualty today via Los Angeles music hive Buzzbands.LA. Watch the clip, "Strobe Light" HERE.

Night Club also recently premiered the first video from their latest release via PopMatters. The clip for the song "Poisonous" is available to watch HERE (or, direct YouTube link HERE.)

The entire 5-song set is available for streaming/sharing via Soundcloud HERE and Bandcamp HERE. Night Club play North Hollywood, CA on Saturday, September 14th and Los Angeles supporting Book of Love on October 8th. Please see complete details below.

Night Club is the brainchild of DJ/Producer Mark Brooks, former guitarist for notorious 90s noise rockers Warlock Pinchers and current director of TV's "Metalocalypse" as well as director of videos for Slayer, Melvins, Danzig and more. The band is vocalist Emily Kavanaugh's first foray into performing, following in the footsteps of her father, keyboardist for legendary New Jersey band Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes.

Night Club's self-titled 5-song debut EP and Love Casualty EP are available now via iTunes, Bandcamp and CD via Gato Blanco.

Russian Circles premiere title track (feat. guest vocalist Chelsea Wolfe) from forthcoming new album Memorial via Rolling Stone

Chicago trio Russian Circles premiere the title track from their forthcoming fifth album, Memorial today via Rolling Stone. The song features guest vocals by label (and tour) mate Chelsea Wolfe. Listen to "Memorial" HERE.

Russian Circles previously debuted the first track from the album via Pitchfork. Listen to the song "Deficit" HERE. (Soundcloud link HERE.) Check out cover art and track listing below.

Russian Circles hit the road in the EU and UK with Chelsea Wolfe (who also supplies guest vocals on the album's title track) in October. Both bands will play full headlining sets. Russian Circles will tour North America in early 2014. Please see complete dates below.

Perhaps the most immediately apparent characteristic of the fifth Russian Circles album, Memorial is its wide range of emotion. Vacillating from somber-yet-soaring melodies on one track to pummeling metal heft on the next, Memorial sounds like an album with split personalities.

Where one song showcases guitarist Mike Sullivan, drummer Dave Turncrantz and bassist/keyboardist Brian Cook's mastery of lush melancholic melody, the next exhibits their most abrasive underground metal leaning sound, with washed-out 16th-note riffs and crushing rhythms. The band's penchant for endless hooks remains a constant, but Memorial embodies their most dramatic ranges in tone.

"We've always tried to balance our metal-influenced sounds with more nuanced, pretty, orchestral elements," Cook says. "But this time, it's far more polarized in that the heavy parts are much more blown out and exaggerated while the pretty moments are far more restrained, delicate, and atmospheric." In the two years since Russian Circles released their landmark fourth album Empros, the Chicago trio toured worldwide nearly incessantly, encountering many heavy acts whose music seemed needlessly complicated. "We set out to make a straightforward, intense, heavy record," Cook explains. "We subconsciously gravitated toward darker and more somber sounds. We wanted to get away from the overtly flashy."

In search of such a streamlined sound, the trio focused on each individual song having its own emotional and musical characteristics. As such, Memorial almost feels like stages of grief. That notion might be aided by 1) the album's clever structuring, in which it ends in the same place as it starts, and 2) special guest vocalist Chelsea Wolfe lending her hauntingly somber vocals to the album closing title track.

To a degree, the monolithic, juxtaposed moods on Memorial is the band's reaction to the proliferation of iPod culture affecting how bands write music. Today, most musicians are trying to mash together disparate elements with results sounding as unpalatable as cooking a meal blindfolded. Russian Circles wisely and deftly sidestep the trappings of genre amalgamation. "I want to hear a band with a broad palette," Cook says. "But it should find that weird balance with breadth and width. We wanted to make a record with more extreme peaks and valleys. I'm hoping that we can get away with making a schizophrenic record."

Those extremes are no more perfectly exemplified than on album opener "Memoriam", which leads in with delicately plucked guitar notes and synth haze hovering in the background, vaguely reminiscent of Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here album. But the mood abruptly ruptures as the next song, "Deficit" forcefully kicks in with a wall of vicious, treble-bleached guitars blaring over Turncrantz's half-time rhythm pummeling his drums with the sound of an industrial machine re-fabricating raw materials. Tension builds to a breaking point about halfway through, opening into a skull-thwacking chugging riff that becomes the foundation for multiple mutant variations slithering over the top. "1777" is possibly Russian Circles' most epic and perfectly streamlined song of all time, incorporating both the physical dynamics of the studio in its sound -- much like David Bowie's emotive vocals on "Heroes", but instead with drum beats and guitars jutting outward in dramatic fashion -- while also developing a slow-burn build of elements purely focused on the emotional specificity of the song. Elsewhere, the uplifting melody of "Ethel" features a chiming finger-tapping guitar line that's heavily treated with effects making it sound like a vintage synth laid over powerfully expressive drums and distorted bass notes cascading over the proceedings with the forceful cadence of a lead vocalist. Album closing title track, "Memorial" is a plaintive, somber ballad featuring Wolfe's guest vocals. A hazy version of the album opening guitar notes hang in the distance as Wolfe's reverb-soaked voice hovers above the dreamlike melody somewhat reminiscent of Julee Cruise's Twin Peaks theme song.

Memorial was recorded at the illustrious Electrical Audio studio in Chicago with the band's longtime producer Brandon Curtis of The Secret Machines & Interpol who also helmed the band's two previous albums, Empros and Geneva

Memorial will be available on LP, CD and download via Sargent House on October 29th, 2013.

Pink Frost stream entire new sophomore album via SPIN.com

"An increasingly commanding quartet that embraces the power of guitar drone, tribal drum and the deep, shoegaze-era swoon." -- Chicago Tribune

"Off-kilter, yearning rock music that strives for a populism that's considered a bit declassé by most of their peers and, as such, badly missed." -- Pitchfork

Chicago quartet Pink Frost are streaming their entire sophomore album via SPIN.com starting today. The blistering new album, Sundowning is available to stream HERE.

Pitchfork recently debuted the first track from the album. The tune, "Ruins" is available for streaming/download HERE. Or, Soundcloud HERE.

Pink Frost is the new moniker of the critically-praised band formerly known as APTEKA. The album, Sundowning was recorded at Steve Albini's Electrical Audio and is released in partnership between BLVD Records and Notes and Bolts Records & Tapes as of September 3rd.

Their debut LP (as APTEKA) Gargoyle Days, made Best of 2011 lists at outlets from Time Out Chicago to the Dumbing of America and this past February saw the release of their first 7" single withe the band's new name. Awash in captivating reverb, swirling melodies and soaring, anthemic refrains, Pink Frost has already generated considerable praise from local press namedropping everything from Ride to Smashing Pumpkins to Dinosaur Jr. to The Men and beyond.
