Chicago's Radar Eyes are back from the dead with premiere of first track from forthcoming album via Brooklyn Vegan

"Radar Eyes have left their garagey beginnings behind them in favor of a chiming, dark romantic sound that, with the addition of a paisley shirt and a bolo tie, would fit right in with mid-’80s acts like The Mighty Lemon Drops, Wire Train, or The Lucy Show." -- Brooklyn Vegan

Chicago quartet Radar Eyes premiere the first track from their forthcoming masterwork Radiant Remains today via Brooklyn Vegan. The song, "Community" is available to hear and share HERE. (Direct Soundcloud)

The album's dark, fuzzy post-punk merged with chiming 12-string guitar pop hooks brings to mind everything from Echo & The Bunnymen, The Ponys, Joy Division, 80s Paisley Underground, The Cure, The Church and more. But it's the band's brilliant songcraft that elevates Radiant Remains to a would-be, should-be classic.

Radiant Remains is an excellent jump forward from the band's fuzzy garage beginnings, and what was originally to serve as Radar Eyes's swan song now becomes the signal of a striking rebirth with vocalist/guitarist Anthony Cozzi's recent relocation to Los Angeles in 2016.

Released via new Chicago label Under Road Records, Radiant Remains was engineered by Gregoire Yeche at Electrical Audio and mixed by Adam Stilson. It features an impressive cast of friends filling in on guest spots, including Outer Minds vocalist and organist Mary McKane, saxophonist Bob Johnson, and Touched by Ghoul frontwoman Angela Mullenhour -- who performs a brilliantly theatrical, over-the-top duet with Radar Eyes singer Anthony Cozzi on "A Daughter's Hymn," the album's centerpiece and highlight.

Radar Eyes is embarking on a Fall tour in support of Radiant Remains, and Cozzi says he expects to have even more new Radar Eyes music written by the end of the year. If this is a new era for the band-which also includes guitarist Russell Calderwood, drummer Nithin Kalvakota, and bassist Lucas Sikorski-this record is a phenomenal way to kick it off.

Radiant Remains will be available on LP, CD and download on September 2nd, 2016 via Under Road Records.

Quin Galavis premieres track from upcoming double LP featuring members of SWANS, Dead Space, A Giant Dog, etc.

"In the post-Swans 2.0 world, Quin Galavis is a glimmer of hope for aggressive noise rock. Galavis draws on the dark folk and noise of Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, as well as the aggressive sonic textures and experimental orchestrations of Swans." -- Tiny Mix Tapes

Austin, TX songwriter Quin Galavis premieres a new track from his forthcoming epic double album, My Life in Steel and Concrete today via Tiny Mix Tapes. The cathartic song "Hand of Light" is available to hear and share HERE. (Direct Soundcloud HERE.)

Brooklyn Vegan recently premiered the confessional song "Glorious Man", available to hear and share HERE. (Direct Soundcloud HERE.)

Quin Galavis has built a strong reputation for producing a variety of high quality music via acclaimed
bands including Nazi Gold and The Dead Space, and through his previous solo work. This double LP is the culmination of not only his music career, but his entire life to this point at 31 years of age. It tells a story, which closes a chapter on Quin's career and life, and yet lays the groundwork for future musical journeys that are only hinted at here.

Those that have seen his recent live performances of some of the songs on this release, or have heard this recording, usually make remarks that include words like "emotional", "dark", "wonderful", "beautiful", and "scary." It's not just a rock and roll record, although there are plenty of rock songs here. It's not an opera, although certainly the story and the songs will evoke an emotional reaction similar to that of a well-loved opera. Quin himself describes the recording as "therapeutic", and he
promises to continue this journey in his future work.

For this recording Quin obtained the services of numerous well respected musicians including Thor Harris (Swans, Shearwater, Nazi Gold, Thor and Friends, etc.) and Sabrina Ellis (A Giant Dog), and too many others to name here. It was engineered by Ian Rundell (multiple albums by Spray Paint among others), and it was mastered by Seth Gibbs.

Quin has already begun recording another album in July 2016, and he just launched a new website at quingalavis.com which is a great resource for fans to not only keep up with upcoming shows and recording plans, but also Quin's life as it unfolds, because he plans to update his personal blog on the site regularly.

Austin label Super Secret Records says of the release, "We hope you enjoy the first step in this new journey Quin has undertaken; we're confident you will want to follow his story closely as it unfolds in this recording and into the future. We were so enthralled by his story and this recording that we've entered into a lifetime contract with Quin; which is really just a handshake and a promise to continue to release his records as long as he wants."

My Life in Steel and Concrete will be available on 2xLP, CD and download on August 26th via Super Secret Records.

Halycine (feat. ex-Blue & Gold singer/guitarist Chloe Raynes) stream entire debut ahead of release

"A a hazy and dreamy ballad, which sounds a bit like a torch song fed through a Kevin Shields filter, or some of the more darkly romantic material from Dum Dum Girls." -- Treble

"That deep rock vibe you've been craving." -- Impose Magazine

NYC band Halycine are streaming their forthcoming debut EP in full today via The Spill Magazine. Hear and share In The Salt HERE. (Direct Soundcloud).

Impose Magazine recently featured Halycine in an introductory interview, also launching the first single. The track "Circles" is available to hear & share HERE. Speak Into My Good Eye shared the dark love song "Elixir" HERE. And, TrebleZine premiered the tune "One More Try" HERE.

Halycine, the moniker for the solo project of singer/guitarist Chloe Raynes, is a fresh new voice in indie rock. Her debut EP, In The Salt, is a collection of 5 songs that she wrote and produced, and 3 videos that she directed. It will be released late summer 2016.

Chloe previously co-fronted NYC's rock outfit Blue & Gold before embarking on the new project that would become Halycine. In The Salt is a luscious blend of reverberating guitars and spacious vocals. It's a sonically imaginative and and lyrically vivid collection of deeply affecting songs. The EP was tracked and mixed at The End in Greenpoint, Brooklyn with GG Gonzalez on drums and Derek Cabrera on bass.

After hearing Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" for the first time at 10-years-old, she decided that she had no choice but to pick up the guitar and begin shredding. Her life was forever changed, and she's been playing and writing songs ever since.

Chloe studied music composition at the arctic campus of Bates College in Maine. She managed to get through the long winters with a soundtrack of Liz Phair, Sleater-Kinney, and Sublime. She moved to NYC shortly after graduation, absorbing the sights and sounds that would eventually shape her musical sensibilities. Other musical influences include Dum Dum Girls, St. Vincent, and Jenny Lewis.

In The Salt will be available for download August 12th, 2016.

Reunited synth punks Milemarker premiere video from forthcoming album, launch U.S. tour this weekend

"While 'Carrboro' shows that Milemarker hasn’t lost its ability to drape new wave flourishes atop its post-hardcore attack, it’s clearly approaching its new album with its eyes on the future instead of the past." -- The AV Club

Reunited 90s-00s synth punk band Milemarker premiere a new video today via Brooklyn Vegan from their forthcoming first album in 11 years, Overseas. The video for album track "Untamed Ocean" is available to watch and share HERE. (Direct YouTube.)

The band kicks off their first U.S. tour since 2008 this weekend, performing at the Wrecking Ball ATL festival in Atlanta, GA. Please see all dates below.

Milemarker also recently reissued their landmark Y2K album Frigid Forms Sell (Jade Tree/Lovitt) on vinyl. The reissue is the album's first time on vinyl in 16 years, and includes 7 unreleased tracks. The demo version of "Industry For the Blind" is available to hear and share HERE. (Direct Soundcloud).

The Onion AV Club previously shared the first track from Overseas. Hear & share "Carrboro" HERE. (Direct Soundcloud). Tiny Mix Tapes followed recently with "Conditional Love" HERE. (Direct Soundcloud).

Coming a decade after their last full-length release, Overseas is notable for being such a focused and cohesive effort. Fans of early 2000s releases like Frigid Forms Sell and Anaesthetic will find a clear sonic continuity in the angular, aggressive guitars, tense melodic vocals and soaring keyboard hooks. New members Lena Kilkka (synth, vocals) and Ezra Cale (drums) deepen the krautrock and electronic tendencies, pushing the sound in unexpected directions. Recorded in Berlin and Hamburg, Germany (where the band is now located), with Electrical Audio studios' Greg Norman (Russian Circles, Godspeed You Black Emperor!) behind the board, Overseas combines the confidence and swagger of a band that has grown up playing music together with the fresh ears and attitude of a brand new band.

Formed 1997 in Chapel Hill, NC by Al Burian, Dave Laney and Ben Davis, Milemarker quickly gained recognition in the independent music scene for their explosive live shows and adventurous instrumentation. The band became known for its combination of post-hardcore punk with new wave electronics, and grew to include singer/synth player Roby Newton, as well as drummers Sean Husick and Noah Leger.

Milemarker played nearly 1000 shows in support of their releases Frigid Forms Sell (Lovitt, 2000) and Anaesthetic (Jade Tree, 2001), touring extensively in North America, Europe and Japan, along the way sharing the stage with bands such as Wire, Mission of Burma, At The Drive-In, The Hives, Thursday, Blood Brothers, International Noise Conspiracy, High On Fire, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Muff Potter, Cave In, Les Savy Fav, Spoon, Monochrome, Turbostaat, The Faint, The Locust, and Hot Snakes.
.
Milemarker added double drummers Tony Lazzara and Noah Leger as well as string arrangements from siblings Beth and Tim Remis for the recording and US tour around Ominosity (Eyeball, 2005). In 2008 the band completed a US and European tour with founding member Ben Davis, including performances at the SXSW and Fusion festivals.
.
In 2009, guitarist Dave Laney moved to Hamburg and bassist Al Burian moved to Berlin. Milemarker reformed in 2014 and returned to the stage in 2015 with Lena Kilkka on keys and vocals and Ezra Cale on drums.

Overseas will be available as LP/CD/MC/Download via Lovitt Records on August 26th, 2016.

The Well premiere first track from forthcoming album via Brooklyn Vegan, pen theme song to Norman Reedus' AMC TV show

Austin trio The Well premiere the first track from their anticipated forthcoming album Pagan Science today via Brooklyn Vegan. The song "Black Eyed Gods" is available to hear and share HERE. (Direct  Soundcloud).

The Well was also recently prominently featured on The Walking Dead star's Ride with Norman Reedus TV show on AMC. Not only has the band composed and recorded the series' original theme song, they also appeared on a recent episode with Reedus, an avowed fan of the band and all things RidingEasy.

The impressive crux of Pagan Science, the sophomore album by Austin trio The Well, is that It’s a multiplicity of itself. From the band’s dual male/female vocals to their transcendently timeless sounds and erudite lyrical themes, Pagan Science is crystalline in its complexity and clarity at the same time.

The Well walk an intriguing line between authentic early 70s doom/heavy psych and the more frayed-edge-of-sanity weirdness of their hometown’s legendary noise rock scene, whilst also splicing in shades of chamber choir vocals, occult rock and dark folk.

Sonically, Pagan Science picks up where The Well -- bassist/vocalist Lisa Alley, guitarist/vocalist Ian Graham and drummer Jason Sullivan -- left off with their widely heralded 2014 RidingEasy debut Samsara. Here, the band’s heavy psych, proto-metal sound growing evermore vast, yet more focused on hooks, and their lyrics more conceptually intricate. Part of a running thread throughout the album’s introspective lyrics is the notion that the world outside of one’s own mind is also a creation and reflection of the interior world of that mind. And, just like the band’s sound is one thing (undeniably heavy) and simultaneously another (dark folk, blues... there’s even a Crosby, Stills & Nash cover, “Guinnevere”), it’s this multiplicity that makes Pagan Science such a captivating record.

Pagan Science was recorded with producer/engineer Chico Jones at Micro Mega Studio in 2016. Jones also previously engineered the band’s debut album Samsara with producer Mark Deutrom [Melvins, Sunn0)))] in 2013. Samsara, released late September 2014 was ranked the #1 debut album of 2014 by The Obelisk and widely praised in the press. Likewise, the band’s intense - some even say “possessed” - live performances have earned them featured slots at Austin’s Levitation Fest in 2015 & 2016, as well as tours with Kadavar, All Them Witches, Black Tusk and more.

The album kicks off with a looped vocal harmony launching a slithering guitar riff and thunderous drums on “Black Eyed Gods” in which the band’s dual vocalists sing in unison throughout like Byzantine monks. “Skybound” starts with a fast churning riff with vocals run through heavy delay and reverb until the drums cut out briefly, then, dropping to half-time the song becomes a massive psychedelic throb as the vocals continue to loop onto themselves above the proceedings. “A Pilgrimage” takes a slower groove, accented by pulsing congas and single note Middle Eastern sounding guitar progression. “Byzantine” begins with monk-like chants, swelling cymbals and droning guitars building up to pounding toms until it all coalesces in a massive eruption. “Choir of the Stars” slowly builds over a lugubrious bass line as a snarling slide guitar weaves throughout, while haunting sounds of yelping coyotes echo in the background. The song ends in a pig-like guitar squeal as “Brambles” begins beneath. Syrupy guitars merge with Alley’s and Graham’s unison vocals to form a slowly building monolithic sound describing a paranoid chant. Throughout, Pagan Science channels the supercharged no-frills hard blues of Blue Cheer and Deep Purple while adding multiple layers of effects, entrancing vocals and the dark thrill of a funhouse hall of mirrors.

Pagan Science will be available on LP, CD and download on October 14th, 2016 via RidingEasy Records.

"Brooks and Kavanaugh wisely decide to focus on catchiness above all else, which pays huge dividends. These are monster hooks that are designed to invade brains and stay inside for a long time." -- Pop Matters

"Catchy as Hell." -- Impose Magazine

L.A. synth band Night Club premiere their new video "Bad Girl" today via Impose Magazine. Watch and share HERE. (Direct YouTube.)

Night Club will be launching their Fall tour in two different cities on the same day, Friday October 7th, with a 2am performance at Oscillator Party (Los Angeles) and a performance later that night at The DNA Lounge (San Francisco). Please see all tour dates below.

Hot off the heels of their official soundtrack release to Comedy Central's Moonbeam City (Milan Records), Night Club returns in October with their debut full length LP Requiem for Romance. It will be available on iTunes, Amazon, Apple Music and Spotify on Friday, October 7th via Gato Blanco Records.

The first single, "Bad Girl", showcases a new direction for the band by embodying a louder, darker, bombastic sound. Also significant, is the veering away from the 80's retro feel of their first three EPs (Night Club, Love Casualty, Black Leather Heart) and the Moonbeam City soundtrack.

"It was a natural direction for us to take as we became influenced by our live sound becoming much more noisy and aggressive than how our records would sound," says singer Emily Kavanaugh. "We also felt we had basically done everything we wanted to do with that sound culminating with the release of Moonbeam City."

Night Club's 3 previous EPs are available now via iTunes, Bandcamp and CD via Gato Blanco.

Monolord stream new EP at Noisey, kick off headlining North American tour TODAY

"Monolord is on the rise in the realm of metal, and for damn good reason - the band knows how to do doom metal right." -- Metal Injection

Swedish trio Monolord are streaming their forthcoming 10" EP in its entirety starting today via Noisey. Hear and share Lord of Suffering / Die in Haze by the band Noisey calls "universally beloved" and "Swedish doom royalty" HERE. (Direct Soundcloud)

Monolord kick off their first ever North American headlining tour tonight in Seattle, WA. The band won many new fans last fall supporting Windhand and RidingEasy Records labelmates Danava, and now return to headline with support from Beastmaker (Rise Above Records) and Sweat Lodge (Brutal Panda). Please see complete dates below.

Monolord's forthcoming EP will be available August 12th on 10" vinyl and download via RidingEasy Records.

Vænir, the band's widely-praised and Best Album of 2015 list topping release is available to hear and share via Soundcloud and Bandcamp.

Metal Sucks hailed Monolord's Vænir as, "far and away one of my favorite doom releases of 2015 so far, possibly even of the past few years. There's just something about the way these guys construct riffs that sets them apart from the pack, and the production style they've chosen -- clear and concise, but still massively powerful and raw in tone -- perfectly underscores what they're doing."

Noisey calls it, "a sludge-doom offering with guitars like chainsaws, bringing to mind Matt Pike's epic tone on The Art of Self-Defense. The massive, ten-ton brick of a record relies on a blues groove though, and not long-stroke, droning nonsense. Heavily treated melodic vocals bring to mind Ozzy during 'Planet Caravan,' and add to the mysticism and darkness surrounding the release. This is one massive record."

"Typical of Monolord," says Consequence of Sound, "the vocals are dreamy and ethereal, only here they're placed up front, with the chorus even touting a catchy melodic hook. It's a truly modern sound: recognizably doom, but with the glistening production values of Sigur Ros and adventurous songcraft of Rush."
