KING WHO share perfect summer dreampop song "Ice Cream" produced by The Thermals' Hutch Harris

"Inspired by dream pop and post-punk outfits from the '80s, such as Echo and the Bunnymen and The Church, mixed with a modern sensibility a la Deerhunter's more ethereal moments." -- TrebleZine

"Michael Young's vocals for King Who are breathtaking. As rich as Rufus Wainwright, his tone soars over beautiful, classic synth melodies. This five piece produce an incredibly dynamic tease of clean emotive pop. I defy you to not be blown away."-- The Deli Magazine

"Think the sweetest, catchiest elements of the early Strokes slowed down to West Coast tempos, crashing waves of percussion, keyboards and guitar lines that shimmer like the late summer sun." -- PopMatters

Portland, OR quintet King Who share the first track from their forthcoming sophomore album Giant Eye today via PopMatters. Hear and share the fittingly summery tune "Ice Cream" HERE. (Direct Soundcloud.)

King Who refines its sound on a dreamy sophomore release, Giant Eye, both rounding edges and expanding landscapes. New wave, post-punk, and dream pop rhythms seep through this bass heavy record. The vaguely dystopian lyrics and toe-tapping bite swim in echoing waves, wallowing in the reverb currents. The intoxicating 8-song album is packed with beautiful, soaring melodies and powerful rhythm-forward tunes, driven by the silky and emotive vocals of frontman Michael Young.

Giant Eye was produced by Hutch Harris of The Thermals and recorded by Victor Nash at Destination: Universe! King Who joined the growing SELF Group label roster in 2016, releasing their debut Us Lights on LP and download in March of that year (full album stream).

Giant Eye will be available on 180-gram LP and download on August 17th, 2018 via SELF Group.

Electric Citizen announce new album Helltown, premiere first single via Metal Injection

"Going from one riff-filled masterpiece to the next, Electric Citizen go well beyond anything that they accomplished with 2014's Sateen. The band is coming into their own, and they know it." -- Metal Injection

"With songs this good, they deserve to blow up." -- Consequence of Sound

Electric Citizen announce their forthcoming third album Helltown (RidingEasy Records) today, premiering the first single via Metal Injection. Hear and share "Hide It In The Night" HERE. (Direct YouTube.)

The band also recently announced North American tour dates supporting heavy psych favorites Monster Magnet this Fall. Please see complete dates below.

Helltown, the forthcoming third album by Electric Citizen is, in many ways, a homecoming.

While the title may seem fittingly metal (if not exceedingly so), it actually has real relevance. Helltown (all one word), while also multidimensional, is named after the Cincinnati, OH neighborhood in which the band lives, practices, and where the album was written, recorded and mixed. Now known more prosaically as Northside, Helltown earned its name in the 1800s due to its reputation for rowdy taverns frequented by the neighborhood of factory workers and immigrants.

Inasmuch as Helltown is an ode to the band's home and its buried past, it also represents a return to the grittier sound of their 2014 debut, Sateen. Furthermore, it marks the return of original bassist Nick Vogelpohl, who rejoins vocalist Laura Dolan, guitarist Ross Dolan and drummer Nate Wagner. It's a fun, tough, dirty rock n' roll album.

"In many ways this album is a realignment to the first," Laura says. "We experimented a lot on the second album, some of which we learned we didn't like." Electric Citizen's 2016 album Higher Time was an expansive and somewhat cleaner effort mixed by Black Keys engineer Collin Dupuis at Easy Eye in Nashville, TN. It was a landmark moment for the band earning considerable press praise - Consequence of Sound named it in the 20 Most Anticipated Albums of 2016 with "the most breakout potential of all the young bands on this list." And, the band's endless touring since the first album earned them stints opening for acts like Pentagram, The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Fu Manchu, Budos Band, Wolfmother and playing renowned festivals like Psycho Las Vegas, Psycho California and Desert Fest Belgium.

What sets Electric Citizen apart from contemporary heavy counterparts is their song writing. The band writes concise, 3-minute, heavy rock songs. While others might now be following suit, when they started, most bands of their ilk were content writing drawn-out slow doom dirges. Regardless, none can deliver quite like Electric Citizen: Laura's captivating star-power, Ross' perfect tone and riffs, Nate's pugilistic and swinging beats, glued together by Nick's gliding bass lines.

"Heart Attack" opens the album with a furious galloping rhythm, crunching guitar with a monolithic scooped midrange tone and Laura's signature wail, double-tracked to create a haunting effect. From the first 10 seconds, you'll be headbanging ferociously, ecstatic to have Electric Citizen back, and back to basics. "Ripper" is exactly that, a shredding 3-minute ripper, "The Pawn" boasts subtle pop hooks deftly tucked into a bashing tune. "New Earth" shows why the band continues to garner high praise for Laura's dramatic vocals and the band's skill at penning bonafide songs, rather than just a collection of riffs.

Helltown will be available on LP, CD and download on September 28th, 2018 via RidingEasy Records. Pre-orders are available HERE

The Young Mothers streaming forthcoming album early, ex-MF Doom, ex-White Denim, Free Radicals, Shape of Broad Minds

"This uncompromising group of players delivers an unforgettable listening experience that people will doubtless be parsing for some time to come." -- PopMatters

"Within seconds it’s clear The Young Mothers are here to give you something you’ve never heard before." -- Glide Magazine

"One of the most interesting and original acts in Texas -- perhaps the entire planet," -- Austin Chronicle

Austin, TX musical iconoclasts The Young Mothers are streaming their forthcoming sophomore album ahead of release today via Glide Magazine. Hear and share Morose HERE. (Direct Soundcloud.)

Austin Chronicle recently shared "Jazz Oppression" alongside an insightful interview HEREPopMatters premiered album opener "Attica Black" HERE. TrebleZine hosted the title track HERE and Letters From a Tapehead examined "Black Tar Caviar" HERE

Self Sabotage Records proudly presents Morose, the anticipated follow up by The Young Mothers, a juggernaut of a collective formed in 2012 and featuring a super group of heavy-hitters who have helped steer the direction of creative music in New York, Chicago, Texas, and Scandinavia.

Norwegian bassist Ingebrigt HÃ¥ker Flaten (The ThingFree FallAtomic) moved to Austin, Texas in 2009. He'd experimented with stateside living for a few years in Chicago before that, but the city of barbecue, food trucks, and outlaw country music has become his home base. Texas has a deep creative music history, but most Texas improvisers found their notoriety elsewhere, seeking to escape segregation and poverty for a chance to 'starve a little better' on the coasts. However, the Texas of 2018 is not the Texas of 1958 and the groundwork for this potent convergence was laid around a decade ago in Houston when Ingebrigt met and linked up with trumpeter/rapper Jawwaad Taylor (Shape Of Broad Minds, MF Doom), and what became a transliteration of his Chicago Sextet into a scrappy Lone Star variant called The Young Mothers has formed a group identity all its own and now has a second album under the belt (their first, A Mothers' Work Is Never Done was self-released in 2014). Instrumentally The Young Mothers has some similarity with its Windy City relative - in addition to sharing drummer Frank Rosaly and Flaten, the vibraphone chair is held down by percussionist & diabolical vocalist Stefan González (Yells At EelsAkkolyte), and Jason Jackson (Alvin Fielder, Pauline Oliveros, William Parker) on tenor and barry is their saxophone firebrand. Furthermore, the group features guitarist Jonathan Horne (Plutonium Farmers, ex-White Denim) and prolific wordsmith and improviser JAWWAAD on trumpet, electronics, and rhymes, and it is here that structural similarities between the Young Mothers and Flaten's other folksy-modal projects end.

The Young Mothers was named after a Houston community project for teen mothers (Project Row Houses) that Flaten's then-partner had been a part of, and while it may strike one as an odd moniker for a group that melds free improvisation, Tejano-inspired horn lines, the long unfurling electricity of surf rock, tough word-science and crust metal vocals, but relocating to a then-unfamiliar locale and birthing/raising a melange of sonic approaches into a working ensemble is not insignificant, if not quite actual motherhood. (On a side note; another strong connection to the Project Row Houses is the Houstonian artist and legendary sculptor Jesse Lott who made the beautiful album art!) Anyways, while they may have exhibited a homespun ricketiness in the beginning, through touring nationwide and after several festival performances and tours in Europe they've honed their sound into something truly their own, and one that's not insignificantly comparable to historical melds in Scandinavian-American-World Music - the work of Don CherryMaffy Falay's Sevda, and more recent efforts from Two Bands and a Legend and The Cherry Thing successfully merge varied strains of contemporary music with creative improvisation. Flaten's round, deep tone and precise attack certainly act as an anchor, a fulcrum for sculpted vibraphone resonance, the dry breaks and shimmering floes of Rosaly's kit, all of which stoke Horne's flinty guitar and the throaty exhortations of brass and verbal declaration. Check "Black Tar Caviar" for some of the most unruly combinations of threads on this disc; from dual cymbal and tuned gong tempi supporting Jackson's Gato Barbieri-like burrs, the palette of accents gradually increases until feedback-laden scorch signals a second movement, raps and death howls in tandem against a Cherry-like folk theme and sludgy electric bass grooves/strangled flourishes. It's a fine microcosm of ten of what The Young Mothers are up to.

And as HÃ¥ker Flaten tells us; "a lot has changed since I initiated this band in 2012, it has grown into its own thing with a truly collective spirit. I created a monster and its time to let go" - luckily for all of us, this band has stretched its legs further than the Houston/Austin/Dallas triangle and we at Self Sabotage Records are ready to help them to hopefully reach out much further with an album we believe is remarkable! We hope you feel the same.

Morose will be available on LP, CD and download on June 22, 2018 out via Self Sabotage Records (Pre-order at Big Cartel-Self Sabotage).

Mick's Jaguar stream forthcoming RidingEasy Records debut early via CvltNation

"An infectious 10-track spinner. As the band's name implies, Mick's Jaguar has definitely got a hearty Stones vibe to it. That, coupled with those searing metallic riffs got me right into the record's groove." -- Doomed & Stoned

"A clean, classic-feeling 10-tracks. Apart from its attitude, what draws the album together is a consistent sans-frills production and a penchant for big hooks." -- The Obelisk

"Every song on the record is a fucking anthem!" -- CvltNation

New York City rock 'n' roll sextet Mick's Jaguar are streaming their forthcoming debut album on RidingEasy Records in full today ahead of release via CvltNation. Hear and share Fame and Fortune HERE. (Direct YouTube.)

The Obelisk recently shared "Where We Go" HEREDoomed & Stoned previously launched album opener "The Real Boss" HERE

Rock and roll is dead in New York City. Long live New York City rock and roll. Mick's Jaguar is bringing noisy, wild, unafraid big rock back to NYC. Crazy rents, corporatized venues, and kids listening to DJ's: it's hard being a band in this town.

This isn't LA and Mick's Jaguar is a product of their environment: a windowless dungeon practice space 20 feet below the trash covered sidewalk of the Lower East Side. Rats, grime, the sounds of the city; Mick's Jaguar gleefully pillages the history of rock music to create thoroughly modern, but classic rock and roll. Not quite punk, but not metal either, this is hard rock and roll that's been put through the brain blenders of 6 musicians who pair their Judas Priest shirts with Steely Dan hats. They claim no musical lineage to New York - they just live there. If you need to compare them to something, the night AC/DC played CBGB's would be about as close as you can get.

The group formed as a drunken Rolling Stones cover band, and after a few years of mainlining Stones songs and playing sporadic shows marred by violence and sprayed by beer, they started writing originals that attracted the attention of RidingEasy Records. And their new album, Fame and Fortune, sounds absolutely nothing like the Stones. The three guitarists -- yes three guitars -- open the album with a riff of buzzsaw intensity that would make a Ramone proud. But then like Jim Morrison sashaying into a wine shop, it drunkenly careens into a big sounding rock and roll album somewhere in between Van Halen and Tres Hombres. Guitar solos abound, Thin Lizzy harmonies soar, the bass and drums make a groove that will shake the asses on the dance floor and put a rumble in your loins. Songs about life, death, cars, blood, murder, sex, drugs and booze are the world of Mick's Jaguar. Don't forget - this is what rock and roll is all about. Listen close and you'll hear hat tips to your bands, Mick's Jag knows their history and likes to rip it apart.

Recorded in Brooklyn at Figure 8 Recording by engineering wizard Philip Weinrobe, and fueled by a steady diet of Allen's Coffee Brandy, the Fame And Fortune sessions resulted in only one hospital visit and it just might be your favorite album of 1978, 1988, or 2018. This is music that's made for listening to while driving fast in your car, and while relaxing at the local strip club. It's okay to have fun. Cute indie bands make everyone puke. That shit stops now. Let there be rock.

Fame and Fortune will be available on LP, CD and download on June 22nd, 2018 via RidingEasy Records. Preorders are available at ridingeasyrecs.com

The Rungs premiere video of pure pop perfection for "Trees" via PopMatters

"Delightfully askance pop music which calls to mind the easy, innocent pop of the Bird & The Bee (and by extension Inara George) and the grin-inducing sounds of the Cardigans. 'Trees' flits by in the blink of an eye, leaving behind an infectious melody that is as inspiring as it is memorable." -- PopMatters

"Indie/dream-poppy, bouncy, high-tempo and unafraid to playfully change up its own sound every few seconds. This song is so fun." -- Little Indie Blogs

Brooklyn, NY trio The Rungs premiere the charming video for their infectious new single today via PopMatters. Watch and share "Trees" HERE. (Direct YouTube.)

After recording what was going to be their second EP in 2015, indie-pop band The Rungs scrapped it, created a home studio, and started over from scratch. Now set to release later this summer, the 5-song EP Everyday Visions contains vibrant synth melodies, imaginative vocals, inventive guitar riffs, and a healthy dose of experimentation.

The band, which started as a music therapy project for Mandy Gurung, (vocals, songwriting, guitar, production) by husband Diwas Gurung, (guitar, production, songwriting) grew from a duo to a trio over the course of recording the EP, adding their neighborhood friend Steven Bartashev on drums. In addition to playing in The Rungs, all three members actively collaborate with other artists, frequently producing and recording them in their home studio. With Everyday Visions, the band offers a collection of playful and moody songs inspired by the sounds and stories that surround them in Brooklyn NY.

Everyday Visions will be available for download on August 17th, 2018.
