Southerly share 2-song single, announce fourth album out in late Spring 2016

"Krueger sings with the fidelity of a songwriter who's seen what he's saying." - Pitchfork

"Treads a fine line between lush and minimal, his linear guitar shifting in and out of intense percussion and pastoral orchestrations." - Billboard

Cult of the Lost Cause streaming enormous, "unsettling" forthcoming album via Metal Injection

"The instrumental band you've been wanting to hear, whether you know it or not. You really need to get some Cult of the Lost Cause all up in your eardrums." -- Metal Injection

Denver post-metal trio Cult of the Lost Cause stream their forthcoming sophomore album Contritions in its entirety starting today via Metal Injection. The full length Metal Injection praises as "a slow-motion apocalypse" and " weirdly unsettling" is available to hear and share HERE. (Direct Soundcloud).

Metal Insider recently launched the incisive, icy tune "All Those Opposed", available to hear and share HERE. Ghost Cult Magazine shared the gnarled atmospherics of "Hessian Crucible" HERE. And, Metal Injection previously shared album track "The Drowned God", available to hear and share HERE.

Cult of the Lost Cause play an album release party in Denver, CO on February 27th, followed by regional dates to be announced soon.

Cult of the Lost Cause's take on instrumental music eschews the cliches of solos and jams to focus on creating well crafted, dynamic songs, performed with intent. Bringing a bombastic set of music, focused on balancing beauty and brutality, their 2013 self-titled debut caught the attention of Denver's Sailor Records, who will be releasing Cult's second album Contritions on February 26th, 2016.

Since forming in 2011, Cult of the Lost Cause has endeavored to create songs that stand up, first and foremost, in the live environment. Cult of the Lost Cause shows have been heralded as must-see live performances, blending undeniable creativity with intensity and fun. As an instrumental band, their focus is on creating a sincere, no frills experience that engages the listener through unrestrained movement, commanding volume, and raw emotion.

In July 2015, the trio entered Flatline Audio in Denver to record Contritions with producer Dave Otero (Cephalic Carnage, Khemmis, Native Daughters). Always devoted to pushing their limits, the new songs are crafted to exist at the delicate balancing point between full scale rock anthems and noise-soaked chaos.

For some, a wide variety of styles results in confusion and sloppy songwriting. Cult of the Lost Cause, however, pull from this wellspring with purpose and intent, to create a focused, no-nonsense identity, unconfined by popular trend. The result is a cathartic musical experience that brings both band and listener together as equal participants in the emotional and physical experience of each song.

The Blue Stones premiere new track via Paste Magazine from forthcoming album

"Music for pint drinking, it was a visceral, deodorant-demanding show." -- Exclaim!

"The hottest kind of rock." -- PopMatters

Windsor, Ontario's The Blue Stones premiere a new single from their forthcoming album, Black Holes via Paste Magazine. The shimmering, laid-back yearning of album closer "Magic" is available to hear and share HERE. (Or, direct Soundcloud, Bandcamp.)

PopMatters recently shared "The Hard Part," a perfect example of the duo's hypnotic, yet rousing heavy soul-rock sound. Hear and share HERE. (Direct Soundcloud HERE.)

Black Holes was co-produced with Canadian underground legend Ian Blurton and mixed by Detroit garage-punk stalwart Jim Diamond (The White Stripes, The Von Bondies, The Dirtbombs).

The Blue Stones were a little surprised to see that their 2012 release How's That Sound? was on Bandcamp's best-selling list. At the same time, it was more of a revelation as to how far they'd come: the alternative indie-blues duo had made a serious impression on everyone they'd come across since hitting the road in 2010.

Not having a third member to fill another rhythm role, the duo developed an original characteristic to the sounds of the bands that influenced them. "We never had a bass player in our early jams, so we subconsciously compensated for one in the music," says guitarist/vocalist Tarek Jafar.

For Black Holes, Jafar and drummer Justin Tessier worked closely with Canadian underground legend Ian Blurton to define the record's sound and emotion. "Ian brought a level of grit and rawness that we really wanted to tap into for a record that's far darker than what we've released in the past," says Tessier. "We also worked closely with Brett Humber (Sound Foundry Studios), who helped us with How's That Sound? in 2012."

The duo's music has also been featured numerous times on major network television, including spots on Parks & Recreation, Suits, Monday Night Football, Battle Creek and more.

More importantly, crowds across Canada and hometown-neighboring Detroit, MI have been stunned by the energy and force behind their loud, dominant live performances-especially for just two dapper guys. The Blue Stones create a killer hi/lo effect; contrasting their slick and put together look with their rough and rollicking live show.  Heart, soul and sweat characterize every Blue Stones spectacle - you can't help but be pulled in from the moment the first note is played.

The two are elated to have played with premiere acts and in national festivals; however, they'd like to achieve an even greater reach to bigger audiences around all of North America and the world. "After two releases and a third in the works, we're looking to forward to pushing this as far as it'll go, to reach as many people as we can," says Jafar. "We love this too much to keep it hid in southwestern Ontario."

Black Holes will be available on April 15th, 2016.

New track from 'Brown Acid:The Second Trip' comp series of long-lost 60s-70s proto-metal, stoner rock singles streaming today

The celebrated compilation series of long-lost vintage 60s-70s proto-stoner-psych singles, Brown Acid returns for a second edition this spring. Curated in partnership by L.A. retailer Permanent Records and RidingEasy Records, Brown Acid: The Second Trip will be released (fittingly) on April 20th. A new track, Crossfield's "Take It" is available to hear and share today via Soundcloud HERE.

Consequence of Sound recently premiered the first track, Ash's "Midnight Witch" HERE. (Direct Soundcloud HERE.) Please see complete track listing below. Watch a rare clip of Ash performing "Midnight Witch" on Australian TV HERE

Some of the best thrills of the Internet music revolution is the ability to find extremely rare music with great ease. But even with such vast archives to draw from, quite a lot of great songs have gone undiscovered for nearly half a century -- particularly in genres that lacked hifalutin arty pretense. Previously, only the most extremely dedicated and passionate record collectors had the stamina and prowess to hunt down long forgotten wonders in dusty record bins - often hoarding them in private collections, or selling at ridiculous collector's prices. Legendary compilations like Nuggets, Pebbles, ad nauseum, have exhausted the mines of early garage rock and proto-punk, keeping alive a large cross-section of underground ephemera. However, few have delved into and expertly archived the wealth of proto-metal, pre-stoner rock tracks collected on Brown Acid: The Second Trip

Lance Barresi, co-owner of L.A./Chicago retailer Permanent Records has shown incredible persistence in tracking down a stellar collection of rare singles from the 60s and 70s for the growing compilation series. Partnered with Daniel Hall of RidingEasy Records, the two have assembled a selection of songs that's hard to believe have remained unheard for so long.

"I essentially go through hell and high water just to find these records," Barresi says. "Once I find a record worthy of tracking, I begin the (sometimes) extremely arduous process of contacting the band members and encouraging them to take part. Daniel and I agree that licensing all the tracks we're using for Brown Acid is best for everyone involved," rather than simply bootlegging the tracks. When all of the bands and labels haven't existed for 30-40 years or more, tracking down the creators gives all of these tunes a real second chance at success.

"There's a long list of songs that we'd love to include," Barresi says. "But we just can't track the bands down. I like the idea that Brown Acid is getting so much attention, so people might reach out to us."

One song on The Second Trip actually never even saw light of day, until now. "Bell Park Loon" by Spiny Norman - sounding like Jethro Tull on more acid and heavier cider - languished in a collector's archives, unreleased for 38 years until Barresi and Hall arranged to license some of the collector's goldmine.

Brown Acid: The Second Trip opens with the squealing guitar harmonies and Sabbath plod of Ash's "Midnight Wish." Sweet Crystal's "Warlords" is a fuzzy and fierce Deep Purple/Arthur Brown inspired organ-led anthem. Raving Maniac's 'Rock and Roll Man" is a tight and brash glam-meets-metal tune proving the true potential of a genre later squandered on Sunset Strip poodleheads. "Silence of the Morning" by Glass Sun serves grungy psych while the Volt Rush Band merges MC5 frantic energy with razor-sharp guitar leads. And, Iron Knowledge's aptly titled "Show Stopper" features a breakbeat and incredibly infectious detuned bass warble motif that DJs would kill for - had anyone been able to find the tune back in the day. Throughout, The Second Trip is yet another wall-to-wall set of blazing tracks that feels like you've uncovered a holy grail. And, in a way, you have.

Brown Acid: The Second Trip will be available everywhere on LP, CD and download on April 20th, 2016 via RidingEasy Records. Pre-orders are available for digital (with immediate download of first single) at iTunes and Bandcamp, physical pre-orders at RidingEasy Records

Oscillator Bug streaming two new tracks for your Valentine! Shapers member and Hood Internet, BMSR collaborator returns

"Oscillator Bug's strange sound exists at the previously unforeseen axis of Dan Deacon's maximal brainiac pop and Gary Numan's arty synthetic dream." -- SPIN

Chicago analog synth psych-pop outfit Oscillator Bug shares two new tracks today from the forthcoming release ZP. The gliding pop groove of "Brain Rain" is available to hear & share via New Noise Magazine (Soundcloud HERE.) And the somewhat haunting chime tones of "Fuzzy Peach" are streaming via TrebleZine (Soundcloud HERE.)

The Spill Magazine recently shared the infectious mind-melting/melding track "Soft Rabbit", which drives like an electronic Motorhead fronted by Gary Numan. Hear and share "Soft Rabbit" HERE. (Soundcloud HERE.)

The 5-track ZP (see track listing and cover art below) is the followup to Oscillator Bug's heralded 2014 album debut Bursts of the Million (Dymaxion Groove). Hear and share that album HERE

Oscillator Bug is like a force of nature in the age of climate change: unpredictable. Borrowing from the revolution-minded mass hallucinations of 60s psych as well as weirdo bedroom pop and several decades worth of avant-garde synth experimentalism, Oscillator Bug is a wild, infectious and occasionally disturbing rendering of 21st Century popular music.

Oscillator Bug's Zaid Maxwell has been making music in the Windy City for several years, playing in various bands (including Shapers with The Hood Internet's Steve Reidell) and recording others. While currently playing in a couple of more explorative and caustic outfits, Maxwell was compelled to extract the auditory earwigs of pop goo that had taken roost in his brain. The result is a tunefully fun and twisted Candyland passage through someone else's fever dream that pulls listeners ever-inward.

ZP will be available on February 19th, 2016. Pre-orders include immediate download of advance tracks via Bandcamp

C^VES premiere two tracks from dark ambient debut, 'Bleeding Rainbow'

"Trust us, you won't be disappointed." - The Spill Magazine

Portland, OR electronic act C^VES premiere two tracks from their forthcoming debut Bleeding Rainbow today via The Spill Magazine and New Noise Magazine. Hear and share "Mafic" HERE (Direct Soundcloud) and "Black Shore" HERE (Direct Soundcloud.)

C^VES is the electronic project of Burke Jam. C^VES refers to the unseen, subsurface spaces as well as the act of collapse. Bleeding Rainbow is the beginning. Burke was born and raised in the mountains of rural Montana. His work spans the gothic americana efforts of Churchmouse to the instrumental psych-metal of Seattle based Scriptures. He was a founding member of the post-rock harbingers of melodic pop: This is a Process of a Still Life and subsequent Missoula based collective/label Firefly Sessions. He has also performed as the fog drenched, violently high decibel, scorched guitar work: Winters Forrest.

He lived in Iceland before moving to Portland, where he spent a year of research synthesizing relationship between physical place, environmental sound and perceptual coherence... or in other terms: was the stranger standing out in the moss strewn landscape alone with a field recording rig, listening to and documenting environmental sound and acoustic ecology. He is an artist and instructor of art at Portland State University where his work is centered around the intersection of new media, technology and sound art-questioning human and environmental relationships.
