Good Old War on Triple A radio, ongoing tour

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

July 24, 2009

Good Old War impacts Triple A radio, extensive US tour continues for acoustic trio reminiscent of Simon & Garfunkel, Iron & Wine

“Good Old War charms with a genuine feel-goodness. The album has no posing or forced trickery.”Phil Ramone, Huffington Post

“Together as Good Old War the trio have mastered the art of three part vocal harmonies and their lively and intricate songs are a throwback to the days when Crosby, Stills, & Nash ruled the Rock world” – Alternative Press

Acoustic folk trio Good Old War was among the top most added on the Triple A (Adult Album Alternative) radio charts last week for the new single, "Looking For Shelter" (MP3 HERE.) While the band's lulling harmonies have already caught fire with younger listeners, the Triple A commercial & non-commercial radio attention is glowing testament to Good Old War's vast appeal. In fact, many fans were so inspired by the Pennsylvania group's Sargent House debut, Only Way To Be Alone they've posted cover versions of Good Old War songs to YouTube. Alternately, check out the official video for "Weak Man" HERE.

Good Old War is currently on an extensive US tour, having recently completed a rousing series of packed shows with RX Bandits and Dredg. Complete tour dates are listed below.

Good Old War recently performed in front of 50,000 people singing at the Phillies vs. Orioles baseball game. On July 24th, 2009, the group joined The Hold Steady, Yeasayer, The Annuals and many more at the WXPN XPoNential Music Festival in Camden, NJ.

Seldom do band members rebound gracefully after their main musical effort falls apart, but Keith Goodwin (vocals/guitar) and Tim Arnold (drums/vocals), members of the once up-and-coming progressive rock band Days Away have managed to do just that, pulling a 180 with their sound to a great degree of success in their new acoustic folk project Good Old War. Rounding out the trio is Dan Schwartz (guitar/vocals) from the Americana tinged six-piece band, Unlikely Cowboy.

Unlike the recent trend among indie rock artists who have visited the country/folk genre, Good Old War makes no attempt to assimilate its music for the sake of novelty. There’s no fake twang in Keith Goodwin’s soft vocals, nor does the band try to overindulge itself by adding sounds by the harmonica or mandolin just for the sake of having them. Instead, this trio from Pennsylvania retains the intimate storytelling nature of folk-song structure, playing music for those who desire an emotive, lyrical experience without having to wade through pretentious or unnecessary musical gimmicks to get it.

Only Way To Be Alone, Good Old War’s debut full length, was produced by Rick Parker (Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Miranda Lee Richards) in Los Angeles in May 2008.

RX Bandits hits #1 top seller on Amazon, tour dates continue selling out in advance of highly anticipated new album

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
July 17, 2009

"If there’s a single idea that’s existed within the Bandits’ ranks since those early days, it’s evolution. If there’s a second, it’s a ferocity that follows the ensemble from its searing live show into the studio." -- Decider / The Onion

"This is not a band to be digested light-heartedly. This is a band with an undefinable genre, and a force of prog rock chemistry to be reckoned with. You cant help but but drink something stronger, and shout out in between songs. Most importantly, you cant help but pay attention." -- Dallas Observer

"Mandala is an expression of all the best things from the Mars Volta mixed with the ability to get to the point a little quicker and with a little more style. It’s simply infectious." --- Georgetown Voice

In the midst of a massive US tour that's seeing most shows sell out weeks in advance, Southern California's multifaceted prog-psych-punk quartet RX Bandits have reached another milestone: #1 Top Selling MP3 Album on Amazon.com.

The long-running band's highly anticipated fifth disc, Mandala won't hit shelves until July 21, 2009. But, thanks to Amazon's special pre-sale the week prior to its official release, RX Bandits fans quickly launched the album to the top of the chart -- out-selling huge artists like the Dead Weather, Daughtry and some guy named Michael Jackson. Check out the MP3 for the single, "My Lonesome Only Friend" HERE.

Meanwhile, RX Bandits shows continue to sell out on their current U.S. tour, including NYC's Bowery Ballroom two weeks in advance (Irving Plaza is nearly sold out too), House of Blues in Anaheim, et al. Upcoming dates across the east coast are expected to sell out soon. RX Bandits joins co-headliners Dredg for the national tour, with alternating openers Good Old War, Zechs Marquise and As Tall As Lions.

Fans shopping for physical copies of Mandala will have special incentive to purchase at indie record stores -- the disc will be available as a 2-for-the-price-of-1 deal, paired with RX Bandits' previous album ...And The Battle Begun. The vinyl edition will be released September 5th to coincide with a special Record Store Day event.

Mandala: few titles are as perfectly befitting an album for a band reaching the culmination of a decade-long musical transformation. With this recording, RX Bandits have truly struck the essence of their merging of genres into a complete and masterfully detailed mosaic.

The metamorphic rock group's latest disc showcases a more rock-oriented quartet, while deftly sweeping in elements of Latin, prog-rock, punk, rock to dub and blues. The much anticipated follow-up to 2006’s ...And The Battle Begun jettisons ahead of where the last left off, scaling back the use of horns and adding more focus on balance and powerful dynamics. Songs like album opener "My Lonesome Only Friend" easily shift from entrancing chimes to full-on syncopated rock fury (replete with a molten John MacLaughlin-meets-Kirk Hammett guitar solo.) Elsewhere, blustery blasts of metallic guitars give way to swirling, proggy synths on "Hearts That Hanker For Mistake." Electric piano leads the blues-dub "March of the Caterpillar" while "Breakfast Cat" boasts the tightest rhythm guitar strumming and grooving drums this side of The Meters.

In an age where taking risks and being fearless can make or break you, RX have emerged as a tidal wave, a force that shatters all the boundaries set against them. Throughout their decade long career, the group has reinvented and revolutionized their identity while retaining their socially conscious lyrics and eruptive instrumentation. This concept has been the catalyst for the band’s ever-growing fanbase, which revels in their uniqueness and continue to storm their celebrated, incendiary live shows. RX Bandits' performance on the main stage at Bonnaroo in 2007 proved the band's majesty to a new audience, while myriad tours with the likes of Portugal The Man, Tera Melos, Fall of Troy, et al, have built the quartet's considerable fan base over the years.

Tracking for Mandala took place at The Mouse House Studio in Northern Pasadena in March of 2009, and marked the return of producer Chris Fudurich to the fold. The album features dramatically hypnotic artwork by Sonny Kay.

RX Bandits first emerged in 1999, forming in Orange County, CA. The young band, fresh out of high school had already been signed to a woefully disastrous recording contract under a different name in a previous incarnation. As the band's music rapidly matured, its label didn't -- leading to many years' strife and struggle to stick to their guns and release the music they wanted. Three albums (Halfway Between Here and There, Progress and The Resignation... the seething sentiments in the titles are quite telling) and nearly 7 years later, the band was freed of its bondage to self-release ...And The Battle Begun on its own MDB Records imprint with Sargent House in 2006. Live From Bonnaroo, a digital iTunes exclusive release followed in December 2007. On July 14th, 2009, Mandala hits shelves via Sargent House.

The mandala is peaking. It's all come full circle as we enter into a completely new realm and Mandala is the soundtrack.

Good Old War launches big ol' tour

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

July 1, 2009

Good Old War launches big ol' tour,

acoustic trio reminiscent of Simon & Garfunkel, Iron & Wine inspires numerous cover videos

Acoustic folk trio Good Old War launches an extensive tour next week that will deliver its lulling, tuneful harmonies throughout the US. The Pennsylvania group's Sargent House debut, Only Way To Be Alone -- a rousing success on college radio & Triple-A -- has inspired numerous fans to post cover versions of Good Old War songs to YouTube. Alternately, check out the official video for "Weak Man" HERE.

Complete tour dates are listed below. Check out the MP3 for their latest single, "Looking For Shelter" HERE.

Last week, Good Old War performed in front of 50,000 people singing at the Phillies vs. Orioles baseball game. Later this month, the group joins The Hold Steady, Yeasayer, The Annuals and many more at the WXPN XPoNential Music Festival in Camden, NJ.
